About John Barca

John and I like a nice, simple, yet clean and comfortable place to stay when we get away from our daily routine of work and raising kids. The property in Kentucky is just that. John, who has always wanted to be a farmer, has been in search of a special place in the United States and he fell in love with Kentucky because of its rolling hills, green pastures, water supply, ability to fish, and to get back to nature.

John Barca purchased this cabin in 2009

Why John Barca chose Lake Cumberland

How many people get to sleep in an 80 year old tobacco barn and have 64 acres to run on. Truly a piece of old Kentucky history. The farm is centrally located to numerous attractions and makes for an affordable vacation. It is peaceful, quiet and beautiful yet not to far from town and the lake. The barn, now cabin, is immaculate, comfortable and modern inside. The farm has several levels; top where the barn/cabin is located, middle with views to the Daniel Boone National Forest and holler where the creek and water falls flow. Campfires at night are so fun with a large fire pit just off to the side of the cabin for roasting marsh mellows, sipping a drink and relaxing. Down next to the creek are a few benches and a place to set up a tent if you want to sleep under the stars while listening to the water roll across the rocks. All we ask is that you please take care of our place like you would your own and keep it nice and clean. It has taken since 2009 to get the barn remodeled and comfortable and we are always improving. One of the best parts of this property are the neighbors with nearby farms; we have become great friends! Good ole American kind hearted country folks.

What makes this cabin unique

The farm is only 1 hour south of Lexington where you can find fine dining, shopping and world famous equestrian parks. 25 minutes to lake Cumberland where you can fish, swim, rent a boat or jet ski at Lee's Ford Marina. Cumberland falls, Daniel Boone National Forest and the Big South Fork National Forest are a short drive. 17 miles north is Kentucky's country music hall of fame in Renfro Valley where you can see a show or walk through the quaint shops and an old Kentucky school house and cabins. Two local wineries are just down the road where you can sample and purchase homemade wines. Hiking, rafting, canoeing and fishing are available in the Daniel Boone National Forest and at Lake Cumberland. Cedar Creek lake and Laurel River lake are both a short drive where you can find awesome fishing and great relaxation. The farm has a fire pit up near the cabin or you can enjoy your favorite beverage down in the holler next to the creek. Lots of birds, deer and other wild life to enjoy. Mammoth Cave National Park is under a two hour drive to the west on highway 80 for a fun day excursion. Somerset has many restaurants, an old fashion outdoor drive-in movie theater as well as the more modern indoor movie theater. Also a bowling alley and many shops to visit. Somerset also has a really cool water park for the kids and a few private pay to fish stocked ponds if you want to wet a line. About a 10 minute drive from the farm in the nearby community of Staab Kentucky off highway 80 east is the worlds smallest creek known as "Short Creek" which you can find on the web. There you can swim, fish or explore the cave where the creek disappears back under ground, or you can skip all of it and just hang around the farm and get relaxed.

Peaceful Quiet Relaxation with Excellent Accomodations

  • 4 of 5

My wife and I, along with our dog Mollie, stayed at the Tobacco Ridge Farm Sept. 12-14, 2016. What a beautiful setting. The cabin is truly a home, with all the home like amenities. The dog had lots of room to run and explore. If you are looking to get away from noise, traffic, or a too busy life, Tobacco Ridge Farm is the place to visit and stay. We enjoyed the evening campfires and enjoyed the daily wildlife activity. Mr. Barca, the owner, kept in touch, to insure that all our needs were met. We loved it!

Peace and quiet abounds

We had such a wonderful visit to this unique Kentucky property with our two furry children. Very well stocked with basic supplies you may want or need which is good because stores or towns are in short supply without a drive.....Seriously, we have visited other VRBOs cabins and haven't had salt and pepper or sugar and forgot to bring it....clean decent cookware, plates, etc. John stayed in touch with us and made sure we arrived alright and that we had everything we needed. He was great to work with. The cabin was very clean and comfortable, even with twin beds! They were quite comfortable. The unique renovation details of this cabin were amazing. It was great walking the property and going down to the creek with the dogs. Although it was to warm to start a bonfire, he has an excellent fire pit supplied with firewood, in front yard area with benches! Not to mention marshmallow or hotdog forks for the fire pit! Wonderful to see every star in the sky at night. Great for anybody wanting to get away from it all! But WILL be away from it ALL. Very peaceful and beautiful property.

Tobacco Ridge Farm Aug 21-26, 2016

My husband and I , and our daughter and son in law, along with our two pups enjoyed a fun filled week at the cabin. The temperatures were in the 90's, so, we spent a lot of time at the creek. Don't forget your super soakers, they added a lot of fun. We packed our own entertainment, we took playing cards, our cameras, and a few board games, for after dark. We also played badminton, corn hole, and flew kites. The grill and the fire pit area provided the perfect outdoor cooking experience.

The cabin was neat and clean, the kitchen was well stocked. The directions were spot on, the location is very private, lots of room to let the dogs run, until their hearts content.

John, the owner, was fantastic to deal with, I had several questions for him, and he answered all of them in a very timely manner. Although we didn't meet in person, I could tell he loved his little escape in the woods, by his conversation. Our cameras got a workout, the view from the fields are breathtaking.

I would highly recommend this rental if you are looking to get away from it all, this is the place for you. I have traveled all over the world, and this is the first time, I have truly enjoyed doing next to nothing. I returned to work saying, I felt like I was off a month. John, thank you for the memories, that we got to share as a family. P.S.-The dogs slept the whole next day !!!

Beautiful cabin, beautiful property

  • 5 of 5

There really isn't much more to say. Johns cabin and property are absolutely gorgeous. He was great to deal with and made sure that we made it safely and had everything we needed. The cabin was stocked with mostly everything you'd need and it was very clean upon arrival. The farm manager even brought us more firewood without even asking. We brought our dogs and they loved running around on the property and playing in the creek. I can't say enough good things about John and the property. We had an amazing time!

Beautiful and restful farm land

  • 5 of 5

The farm house was very impressive. An old rustic barn on the outside but when you open the door it's a beautifully crafted cabin inside which is well decorated and stocked with all your basic needs. Very comfortable and homey. The outside has a large new deck attached and my dogs had so much fun running the property. We walked to the creek and let the dogs play in the water too. Enjoyed getting away from it all and reading a good book. We also had summer fun on the near by lakes. The owner was very easy to work with and quickly responded. Highly recommended getaway
