About Cynde Denny

My husband and I have owned the property for ten years now. Just recently last Sept. 2014 we upgraded the interior and tastefully furnished each room for guests to come and enjoy. The rooms are each done in a different country style. If you want to rent all seven bedrooms you can or you can let us know how many guests your group is and we can rent you the bedrooms of your choice for a special discounted rate.

Cynde Denny purchased this estate in 2005

Why Cynde Denny chose Eugene

University Street House is surrounded by beautiful houses. The street is extra wide and has large trees and mature landscaping with lush green grass every where. Eugene is a warm and welcoming place, small and quaint with alot of great restaurants and wineries. There are more parks and walking trails here in the hills among the fir and hemlock forests and along the riverways to enjoy than any other state! We have the most beautiful flowering rhododendrons and cherry trees in April and perennials in Spring and summer just like Provence!

What makes this estate unique

Travelers, Professors, Students and Professionals love our location as we are so close to the University and the unique atmosphere and athletic events and activities that are offered at Hayward Field, Howe Field Knight Arena, Cuthbert's Amphitheatre and Autzen stadium. Our house was built in 1929 with has high ceilings, plaster walls and romantic Cary Grant colonial revival architecture. There is a sunny, warm place to sit and have breakfast either inside or on the deck just outside of the kitchen.

Great House!

  • 5 of 5

Stayed at the University House for two nights during the Ducks vs Virginia football game. Had Alumni fly into Eugene with a total group of 10 people. Met Cynde at noon the day we checked in and she was prompt and very helpful. We rented the top portion(7 bdrms/4 bthrms) of the house which was very spacious and clean. The kitchen was the highlight of the house with all the amenities and a beautiful deck outside with plenty of seating. Would definitely rent this house again!!

Nice enough home, not worth the trouble

  • 1 of 5

The house is nice, not extravagant, but perfect in every way that we were looking for. It’s extremely close to Hayward Field, which was the most important thing for our large group. My husband is a high school track coach to a small Eastern Oregon school, and uses his coaches pay to rent a house so that the kids who qualify for state competition can have a nice team-building experience.

The owner seemed a bit disorganized and missed our agreed upon check-in time, and that’s when things started to go downhill. There were two scheduled interviews for housekeepers during our stay, which seemed odd and felt very disrespectful of our privacy. She also double-booked us for the last two nights of our stay (four nights total). I refused to “bunk-up” with the other party, but did agree to check-out one night early to help the owner out.

We had planned a back-yard taco-feed dinner with the other part of the team staying in another part of town. It was an extra deposit and fee that included clean-up and security (for the owner to sit in the driveway and make sure things didn’t get out of hand). This fee also included the use of the outdoor tables and chairs. Our event was rained out, and at the time the owner said that she understood – she was happy not to have to come over and sit security, clean-up or set-up - and that she would refund the fee and deposit.

It took almost six weeks, multiple attempts at communication with her, and involvement from the security team with VRBO to get the one night refund and original rental damage deposit back. She now also refuses to refund me back any money related to the outdoor event; she owes me $700 total. I would not recommend this owner to anyone for fear that she would double-book you; I’m grateful that we were the first party and not the second 16-member party out of lodging on a busy weekend. Not to mention the stress caused by the difficult, unprofessional, and lack of communication (most recently, 6 unanswered messages over 6 weeks).

I’m writing this review knowing that I may not be able to answer her response, but hopefully can help others make a better decision.

Great place for a large group

  • 5 of 5

This was the ideal house for a large group especially for an extended stay. We were able to have a number of families without feeling crowded. The size of the house allowed for different schedules to be accomated with ease. The proximity to the University was ideal and having Prince Pucklers, the local ice cream place, 2 blocks away made each night a treat. Also, for exercise enthusiasts, Pre's trail is within a mile and it was a short bike ride to get to some outstanding cycling routes. All in all, we couldn't have been more satisfied with our stay and can't wait to get back.

Fantastic location and accommodations

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I recently stayed at the University Street House for the Olympic Track & Field Trials from July 1-10, 2016. The location of this house in relation to Hayward Field was fantastic. It was only two blocks away from the University of Oregon. Parking was at a premium during this time but we had our own reserved parking in the back which was extremely helpful! The layout of the rooms were fantastic. The kitchen had everything we needed for either a home cooked meal for just ordering in. I cannot imagine staying in a hotel for this length of time and being comfortable. Cyndi was very welcoming and showed us around the house when we arrived. If we needed anything all we had to do was call her. This house is located on University street which has some of the most beautiful and landscape homes we had ever seen! It is a very relaxing neighborhood and very close to everything. This is our second time to Eugene, Oregon for a track & field event. We absolutely loved our stay this time around. Our neighbors were very respectful and we truly appreciated this since we usually go to bed early. We loved the fact we could go on neighborhood walks or I could even run to Amazon Park do a track workout and run back to the house as a cool down. We would certainly recommend this home and it's location to anyone. Thank you Cyndi!

The property is a beautiful Victorian situated in an elegant neighborhood close to the Univ.

  • 5 of 5

Despite it's close proximity to the university the neighborhood was very quiet. The house was enormous and truly could sleep 20 people with ease. It could not have been a better location for graduation or the NCAA track finals. The two kitchens are spacious and we cooked most of our meals right there at the house. Everyone enjoyed the stay and welook forward to staying at this wonderful residence again in the future.

Disappointed

  • 1 of 5

Great Location and nice kitchen, those are. the only things nice I can say about this particular property.

The house is old and smells like an old house. The bathrooms need to be renovated. There is only one small TV in the house, a 32" downstairs in the living room. No TVs in any of the bedrooms! The bar is not a wet as it appears in the pictures. All the furniture is mix and match. When we arrived we found one of the bathrooms so dirty that one couple moved to a hotel. We also found holes in one of the sets of sheets on one of the beds. Everyone was only allotted one towel for our 6 night stay.

Not an upscale rental by any means. Would not rent this house again.

Owner's Response: Hi Chav, The house has been remodeled! We have tried to please you but never were given the courtesy of an introduction with yourself. From the moment your parents arrived from Louisiana I spent time with them in the house reviewing each room, the kitchen the main floor the laundry room etc. down to the toilet paper and the towel sets! They were very pleased with the accommodations. After each guest stays we clean the house and property from top to bottom. I brought you new sheets and towels! Your parents did not want to stay in any house they wanted to be in a hotel with a restaurant ! They said that you had agreed to cook! But then I guess you changed your mind and decided to try to cancel the very next day after checking in and accepting the house! Now you are being vengeful and using made up excuses for your not being able to actually cook! Please do not come back to our house nor our town as nobody with houses can please you or your family I guess?
