About Cynde Denny
Our family has renovated this house and property since we purchased it in June 2005. Cynde attended the U of O from 1972 - 1977 and received her BLA. Then returned in 2007 to obtain her double Masters in Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning. Their family business is based originally in Marin County, CA and provides extensive General and Landscape Construction Services for remodeling and new construction of projects in the Willamette Valley. We pride ourselves in taking good care of the University Street House and the garden.

Why Cynde Denny chose Amazon
University Street House is surrounded by beautiful houses. The street is extra wide and has large trees and mature landscaping with lush green grass every where. Eugene is a warm and welcoming place, small and quaint with a lot of great restaurants and wineries. There are more parks and walking trails here in the hills among the fir and hemlock forests and along the river ways to enjoy than any other state! We have the most beautiful flowering rhododendrons and cherry trees in April and perennials in Spring and summer just like Provence! Our Bed and Breakfast service opened in Sept 2014. We have since tastefully furnished each room for guests to come and enjoy. The rooms are each done in a different country style. All seven bedrooms are available or you can choose and let us know how many guests in your group and we can rent you the bedrooms of your choice for a special discounted rate. The breakfast choices are full spread or continental available between 8 and 10 a.m. We feature local organic coffee, fresh juice, french croissants, and fresh fruit daily. Please reserve 24 hrs. in advance.

Things we wished we'd known
Dear potential renters,
The house itself is pretty great, but there are numerous things that I wish I'd known before booking months in advance. All of these were learned within the 24 hours preceding our arrival which gave us no option other than to proceed.
* You will need to provide a guest list of everyone staying there, including phone numbers and possibly photos of driver's licenses.
* The check-in time is 4pm, not 3pm, as listed.
* The person who pays for the reservation must tour the house with the owner before any other guests are allowed inside, so be sure to book your travel accordingly.
* There's no door keypad or lockbox; we were given one physical key.
* The listing is for the estate but there is a renter living in the basement. He has a separate entrance, there's a lock on the interior windowed door that separates you, and you share access to the laundry room.
* There's no microwave and the only TV is in living room.
* Don't expect to plug in anything in the downstairs communal areas (such as a cell phone to recharge), we were told to use the outlets in the bedrooms (mostly upstairs).
* The kitchen sponges were dirty enough that we bought new ones, and washed some cookware before use.
* Although the owner and handyman had just finished replacing light bulbs when we arrived, many key bulbs were still out, including the only one on the steep attic bed stairs. We discovered this during the tour with the owner, but during our four-night stay they were not replaced because her handyman was sick. Luckily cell phones double as flashlights.
* At least one smoke detector was open/disabled.
* Bring warm layers, the thermostat is locked.
* I recommend counting towels or bringing your own. We were surprised to be charged for multiple. And perhaps take photos of the kitchen equipment, we were charged for the replacement of a pan that was well-used before we arrived.
* As advertised, no shoes in the house and don't move the furniture. During the tour, the owner will list off other fine-able offenses including shutting certain doors or damaging the banisters.
Having access to so many separate sleeping areas and decently sized communal areas was perfect for our 30s/40s board game hangout. It was a shame that so many unexpected things came up in the day before our arrival. None of them alone would have raised concerns, but all together, it added a rather stressful tinge to an otherwise wonderful college reunion.
This is very funny! The above explanation has the following errors.
#1. There are no permanent guests in the house.
#2. The washer/dryer is not shared. The Hawaiian Apartment is not part of the Main House in any way.
#3. These people were not able to prepare a guest list prior to their checking in which is what held them up.
#4. Our house was built in 1925 and the various features such a glass french doors and staircase banisters are apparent in the photos for all to see the care that should be taken while visiting the property.
#5. There were actually (5) other pans that were left in dirty burned condition that we spent time deep cleaning.
#6. When renting a house this large occasionally a light bulb will burn out but to say you need your phone to see is just absurd.
#7. The bedrooms each have a 20 amp breaker to accommodate all personal electronics that guests may bring. However these guests wanted all of their electronics to be in the living room. Well sorry not plausible for 14 cell phones to be plugged in at once.
This group of travelers stayed over for 4 nights over New Years. We had to pull teeth to get all of their names for insurance purposes. Then we never did feel secure that they were all on the same page with our house. This is our house and we want to present it as such with careful attention to detail. This group apparently does not feel considerate enough to understand the concept of keeping the three floors in good shape while they are present. People who visit and stay here should be aware that there is a lot that we offer in kitchen equipment, bedroom accommodations and furniture throughout the Main floor. We are not interested in having groups that bicker and argue about our policies. In our website these details are described but if guests do not take the time to read these house rules than they are not the visitors for our house. Pans that are burned beyond repair will need to be replaced. Carpets that have alcohol spills will need to be cleaned. Towels which have foundation and black mascara on them will need to be replaced as these chemicals do not wash out even when spotted with Zoom or Oxi cleaners. Next time Marcy please take your group to a hotel. Then each person will have a room with a VISA on file to handle the issues more directly.
We would like to spare our house for the future guests to receive fresh, clean conditions at all times.
Wonderful time !
We were in Eugene for my son's wedding, and we chose to all stay in the University House vs all of us in different hotel rooms!! We made the right choice! It was so wonderful to stay up late and play cards, and then get up early and make early morning pancakes for our entire family! The house was a great place to make everlasting memories! ❤️
Zero stars. House was dirty when we arrived. Dust everywhere. Very worn beds and furniture.
Very over priced for a very old house. No air conditioning with insufficient ventilation. We had 3 infants and would never have rented this house had we known it was so unhealthy to stay there. The owner had rented the basement apartment without informing us. Very strange situation. I'm calling the Public Health Department to see if there any air quality requirements for rental property. Very uncomfortable living conditions.
This group contributed to our property in the most negative and inconsiderate manner.
We do not recommend this group for anyone who has a well maintained desirable mansion that they personally care about keeping nice for the next travelers. Attention to detail is our motto and we strive to keep it that way. Please review our listing details and photos for the truth about our property.
This is a feeble but hilarious attempt to smear the property when in actuality this group did an about face. They were very nice and the lady with the guest was a second time guest who raved about the property last visit! They were actually a group of heavy drinkers in disguise with small children. What a shock! They misrepresented themselves. Dirty red beer party cups left everywhere in every room on every table top. Bathrooms were filthy dirty, soiled diapers left in the rooms, the kitchen floor needed to be deep cleaned. The teak patio table was broken in half from too many people sitting on it. The beer pitcher was missing. The BBQ scrapper was missing and the BBQ was left with a dried out hamburger and sauce all over down the front. They parked where they were told not to. They ignored house rules about putting dishes away when they left. They dismantled the refrigerator shelves and drawers.
I wonder if they even read the listing details as we do not have nor need air conditioning here in Eugene nor in a house built with thick stucco walls. Our house ventilates itself perfectly and naturally. We have fans in every room for personal comfort.
To even say that you would contact a public health dept. regarding air conditioning is beyond comprehension.
Property is tired, but served our purpose, as it is a great location...near Hayward Field
VRBO online staff did awful job of addressing my concerns prior to arrival (I paid for "sleeps 6", then with owners help cancelled/upgraded with to "sleeps 16"). VRBO Confirmation continued to reflect "sleeps 6", so my guests and I were concerned about what would really be available. I made 3 official attempts to get their help (rec'd 3 "we got your request" responses), and I found them to be flat out lazy and unwilling to engage and solve. The VRBO staff DID NOT HELP, which was very disappointing and unprofessional.
Interesting as his guests exclaimed at how nice our property was and well maintained!
Good luck finding another house this accommodating on University Street.
This traveler was confused...he first booked the In-law unit and then booked the Main House after adding guests to his group of 6. He entered in the original number of guests into the Inquiry and then tried to get VRBO to change his entry. FYI it does not matter in the long run. Michael we understood what you meant upon message history. The purpose of these reviews is to let the public know what you enjoyed about the property? This house is colonial revival in design; vintage not tired. Next time try the hotel for three times the price with your group size of 16! If you want the feel of a home that is large enough to fit 16 guests in Eugene our house is the best bet.
Thank you for your stay.
We loved our stay. The only thing i could say to make a more comfortable stay would be to upgrade the bedding. There are alot of beds but if they could be more quality sheets and pillows it would have been better. Thank you very much:)))
We have five King size beds that are Beauty Rests by Simmons and our sheets are 400 count Egyptian cotton. The other beds that you mentioned are all brand new from Mattress Outfitters . What exactly do you mean an upgrade? This has been more than adequate for all of our travelers so far?
I suggest you bring your own quilted mattress pad along wherever you go to customize your bed with from Bed Bath and Beyond in the future!
Thank you for your stay!
Older home that needs some upgrades.
This house is nice for size, but lacks modern conveniences. Home has one TV for a 7 bedroom house. There is no microwave. Owner sets heat at 68 and locks thermostat so you have no control. Parking is spacious except you are directed where not to park by owner. Could be a very nice experience if the goal was to serve the customer, not protect the property and collect the money. Even though we were a group of 10 educators we were informed not to let children run in the house. A little overbearing for something that was not an issue.
What do you expect us to do in this regard?
This is definitely a "home" that you rented from us! The house is 5,821 s.f. and it requires our guests to be aware of the house rules. Such as no shoes on the main floor carpets, no drinks left on the wood tables and clean up ypur garbage. Next time we recommend you and your group would be more comfortable at the Eugene Hilton in a 250 s.f. room for three times the price?
We are 1-2 blocks from the University of Oregon and have many great restaurants with in 3 -20 blocks each direction to choose from; Italian, French, Pizza, Breakfast etc.
