About the property

2 Bedroom Log Cabin 3 Miles from Blue Ridge Parkway

Welcome to Peak-a-View Cabin on the slopes of Sharp Top Mountain of the Peaks of Otter, 10 minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Peaks of Otter Visitor Center, Lodge and Restaurant.

Our cabin is situated in a clearing on five acres of otherwise wooded land, surrounded by the natural world, yet offering all the comforts of home.

The front porch of our cabin is the front row in a theater of nature. Take a seat and wait for the wildlife to pass by, and occasionally stop by for a visit. Birds – Hawks, owls, pileated woodpeckers, bluebirds, spring warblers, and wild turkeys are just a small sampling of the avian visitors. Foxes, squirrels, rabbits, chipmunks, deer, and the occasional black bear are often guest stars in the spectacular show. You don’t need a ticket, just a pair of binoculars, a bit of patience, and perhaps a glass of wine to sharpen the senses. You can also take a walk in the woods on our maintained trails, and visit the nearby creek which runs cold and clear from the mountains.

Inside our lovely, cozy cabin you will find attractions of a more domestic sort: A stone fireplace with wood and kindling always stocked, central air conditioning and heating, front-loading washer and dryer, Satellite HDTV, wireless internet, dishwasher, electric range and oven, microwave, coffee makers, stereo cd player, two bedrooms each with queen sized beds (sheets and linens provided), all rooms furnished for socializing, reading, or relaxing. We allow dogs, up to 40 pounds, and you will find a jar of treats waiting inside the front door to help make your pet feel at home as well.

Our cabin is a home away from home for us, and we hope that once you visit, you will feel the same. It is close enough to the town of Bedford (6 miles) for shopping and dining, but far enough away that you will have your own quiet escape, serenity, and privacy. We have tried to provide all the conveniences to make you comfortable, but all the peace and solitude you need to relax and reset.

All potential guests MUST also speak to us by phone before booking. We will answer any questions about our home.

*please pick up after your dog or a fee for clean-up will be billed

*our neighbors welcome our guests to enjoy their orchard and flowers. Please respect their privacy

Peaceful solitude... with town of Bedford just 10 mins away

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful cabin, very well-stocked with lots of extras... even laundry soap, napkins, paper towels, spices, toilet paper, lots of firewood & fire starters, lots of magazines, Direct TV with a DVR (for recording), internet wifi (no password needed), firm mattress with soft linens, modern washer & dryer, TV in master bdrm, two types of coffee makers, coffee filters, K-cups, powder coffee creamer. Freezer has 4-5 ice trays, so you may want to bring additional ice. Even though there is a fairly modern thermostat and pretty good HVAC, some rooms can get a little chilly at times so may want to bring portable heater in winter months.

Sharp Top Mountain (one of the two "Peaks") is just a 10-min drive, and quite visible & prominent from the field next to the cabin. It's a challenging 3-mile hike (up and back from the parking lot at the base), but awesome views at the top!

The owners of this cabin stay here frequently so it's kept in good shape and well-stocked. You'll love it.

Beth and I came to Peak a View the first week of October for our honeymoon...we are in our 60's. This cabin was just what we were hoping it would be. The cabin is charming and well appointed. The back deck is where we spent most of our time. If it rained, we moved to the front porch and relaxed in the rocking chairs. We loved walking to the creek with our dog so he could splash around and enjoy himself...he doesn't get to do that in the city. We sat down by the fire pit one evening and just enjoyed the cool night air. Fresh flowers and personal notes on the chalkboard made us feel right at home. All of our expectations were exceeded.

ps: if the folks who came behind us couldn't find the cabin's 'instruction sheet' that's because we managed to pick it up by mistake and take it with us. DON'T BLAME THE OWNERS! Sorry, Sally.

thanks for everything,

bobby and beth

We Didn't Want To Leave

  • 5 of 5

My children and I spent a lovely long weekend at the cabin. The entire experience was like an adventure for us all. The cozy environment, the fire pit, the dinners on the back deck and the breakfasts on the front porch...; it didn't take long til each one of them proclaimed, "I don't want to leave!" I didn't want to either. The cabin had everything we needed and most of all it provided a cozy time for us to be together as a family and enjoy the beauty all around us. As a mother of four children, I especially appreciated how well stocked the cabin was and it was ready to go as soon as we got there. We didn't have to make up beds or bring paper goods, etc... Everything was there, as if the house were waiting for us. Well, we just loved it.

Wonderfully stocked cabin!

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at a number of cabins for vacations, but non have been as well stocked as this one! It had everything we could possibly need (almost like we lived there!) which made it a delightful stay. The cabin was clean and well maintained and we found Gene to be a delightful caretaker. We used it as a base to get to know a bit about the area with the potential of retiring to the Bedford area. What a peaceful, relaxing stay and we will be back!
