Overview

About the property

2 Bedroom Log Cabin 3 Miles from Blue Ridge Parkway

Welcome to Peak-a-View Cabin on the slopes of Sharp Top Mountain of the Peaks of Otter, 10 minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Peaks of Otter Visitor Center, Lodge and Restaurant.

Our cabin is situated in a clearing on five acres of otherwise wooded land, surrounded by the natural world, yet offering all the comforts of home.

The front porch of our cabin is the front row in a theater of nature. Take a seat and wait for the wildlife to pass by, and occasionally stop by for a visit. Birds – Hawks, owls, pileated woodpeckers, bluebirds, spring warblers, and wild turkeys are just a small sampling of the avian visitors. Foxes, squirrels, rabbits, chipmunks, deer, and the occasional black bear are often guest stars in the spectacular show. You don’t need a ticket, just a pair of binoculars, a bit of patience, and perhaps a glass of wine to sharpen the senses. You can also take a walk in the woods on our maintained trails, and visit the nearby creek which runs cold and clear from the mountains.

Inside our lovely, cozy cabin you will find attractions of a more domestic sort: A stone fireplace with wood and kindling always stocked, central air conditioning and heating, front-loading washer and dryer, Satellite HDTV, wireless internet, dishwasher, electric range and oven, microwave, coffee makers, stereo cd player, two bedrooms each with queen sized beds (sheets and linens provided), all rooms furnished for socializing, reading, or relaxing. We allow dogs, up to 40 pounds, and you will find a jar of treats waiting inside the front door to help make your pet feel at home as well.

Our cabin is a home away from home for us, and we hope that once you visit, you will feel the same. It is close enough to the town of Bedford (6 miles) for shopping and dining, but far enough away that you will have your own quiet escape, serenity, and privacy. We have tried to provide all the conveniences to make you comfortable, but all the peace and solitude you need to relax and reset.

All potential guests MUST also speak to us by phone before booking. We will answer any questions about our home.

*please pick up after your dog or a fee for clean-up will be billed

*our neighbors welcome our guests to enjoy their orchard and flowers. Please respect their privacy

*absolutely no CATS

Very Nice Place

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I and our dog had a great stay. For a couple, there is plenty of space, and the yard provided a great space for our dog to run around. The trail out back is also beautiful.

We loved everything inside of the house and outside.

The weather was perfect. We could walk trails all day long.

The house is very tastefully decorated. WE would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for privacy and comfort.

Thanks to the owners for wonderful opportunity to spend our little vacation at their wonderful place!

Quite, tranquil & full of relaxation!

  • 5 of 5

This home is everything you want and more in a relaxing getaway! The owner is responsive and very accommodating. The home is well equipped for cooking and enjoying the space in and around it. The front deck was my favorite spot. Sitting there in the rocking chair, reading a book & watching the world creep by. The only thing I wish it had was a full size couch to relax on in the living room but the space was limited and the recliner made up for it! There is a TV in the bedroom as well, but the view outside was much better from the living room. Bed was very comfortable with very soft sheets and nice pillows!

I loved my stay here and would love to visit again!

Terrific location and cabin

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at this cabin. Everything was set up for us as described and the cabin is well maintained, kept very clean. Appliances are very nice, including a laundry room. It is easy to find and not far from Peaks of Otter. We had comfort and adventure in one trip with our bear visitor every evening. The cabin is secluded and wooded, but an easy drive to Bedford. We needed to be at Liberty University in Lynchburg early in the morning and were able to drive there in about 40 minutes on roads that were not busy. We enjoyed the fire ring on our last evening which was a good way to finish the trip. Would stay again!

Great stay in a beautiful setting!

  • 5 of 5

Every element of our stay was enjoyable and satisfying, from the communication we had with the owners, to the check-out process. The cabin is located in a very peaceful and private setting just far enough off the beaten path, while close enough to civilization so that finding a restaurant, grocery store, etc. was only about 15 minutes away. The cabin is very comfortable and is well-stocked and clean. It was perfect for our family of three, plus our dog. The creek is very close by and can be heard from the cabin. There are multiple paths in and around the property. We visited the National D-Day Memorial in Bedofrd and the Virginia Safari Park in Natural Bridge. Both attractions are highly recommended. We also ventured to Roanoke and spent the day there, going to the Science Museum of Western Virginia while there. In summary, I highly recommend this property and if our travels bring us to Bedford in the future, I would stay here again without reservation.

Amazing getaway!

  • 5 of 5

My husband, 15yo son and I enjoyed our stay immensely! The cabin was so adorable and perfect. I have never had a vacation property so well stocked with everything you need. The property was so beautiful and relaxing. Even though it rained a lot, we still had a wonderful time. I love that you can hear the stream all over the property. We loved watching the birds and even saw 2 deer! Didn't see any bears though. The rockers on the front porch were my favorite place. There are trails on all sides of the house that lead to fun exploration. Truly was one of the most relaxing trips we've been on. If you use the firepit, bring LONG skewers for roasting hot dogs/marshmallows. The sides of the firepit are very high. We enjoyed lunch at Liberty Station in town, the D-Day memorial, and going to Natural Bridge. Loved that it was close enough to town but not too close. Also check out the Claytor Nature Study Center, there was a sign pointing to "bird and wildlife trail" not too far from the cabin on 43. It was flooded out when we tried to go, but it looks like a very interesting place to hike and bird watch.
