The house was clean but not well maintained at all.

  • 2 of 5

The location, the dock and the cove were the best parts of this house. It has a lot of space but is VERY outdated, cheaply decorated and not well maintained for the price. There were broken lamps, outlets that didn't work, doors that didn't close and the flood lights outside didn't work which is a huge hazard. There is no internet and only 1 TV in the basement. There is plenty of space for a TV in the main living room area and at this price I would expect that plus internet. The furniture is very old and in disarray as well as all of the cheap and bad decor. We called the number to report some of the issues and we got the owner who answered and said they were the owner and then hung up. We then called another number which was the management company and they said they would call back and come address at least the fload lights but never showed up. The property outside has not been maintained with years of crap on the decks and walkeays. This house has some very nice features like the hot tub, screened in porch (which was slanted) and 4 good size bedrooms with 3 very small baths but overall the lack of updates it needs and the crappy furniture and decor make it much more expensive than it should be. We always enjoy the lake and will be back but not to this house.

North East, PA

PA family vacation

  • 4 of 5

My family stayed at LemonZest for 10 days at the beginning of August. We had a fun time. Plenty of house space and room for sleeping. Enjoyed use of the hot tub as well as the lake and docks. Access to the lake is a bit precarious with the steep hill. Wouldn't have mattered except we had our two dogs with us and they love to swim. So we had to to descend the hill for them to get in the water. Would be nice if the main dock attached to the hill down below. Also having steps into the lake would be great for the dogs. The big stones along the shore made it tough. Being in the cove made it less busy with boats. We had fun at the bridge shops and playing putt putt. Also rented a pontoon boat for a day and went tubing. Overall the lake house is large but in need of some sprucing up. No yard for activities. There was also a misunderstanding on whether Sheets and towels were provided so we had to purchase them at Dollar General the night we got there. I guess you can rent them but need to give three months notice. I did not receive prior information regarding a list of things to bring although I was told I did. Loved the lake but may look for a house with more yard space and easier lake access for next year.

Owner's Response: Thank you for staying ! Yes the rocks on the shore - have to stay - with the laws governing the lake and shoreline ( the owner does not want them either- but steps into the water cannot be built ) AEP controls the shoreline- all the way up to about 10 feet into the yard on this property. Everyone would love for the dock to attach to the home- but again AEP stopped this over 30 -40 years ago - feel free to look up all the shoreline requirements on their web page. ( I cannot post the link here ) I would love for the dock to be attached- but will never happen - so do not want to mislead anyone. Every lake is governed in our country by an entity and the government- so we have to adhere to all their laws with any shoreline property. The what to bring was sent out - actually 3 times - someone read / opened the email twice - it is on the same sheet as the directions - so that would be how you found the home.. Thank you again - nice home- this lot is not considered steep ( it is approx 30 steps- our steep lots near the dam- mountainview shores area have over 100 -200 steps down - we do call that steep - we call Lemon Zest a gentle slope here- so just an fyi, when you come back to the area.. Thank you again - wish we could do the comments you mentioned but the governing bodies of the lake do not allow it ... so you will not find that really anwhere here ..

Amazing family getaway!

  • 5 of 5

I took my wife and two small children (2 and 1) along with my adult brother and parents to Lemon Zest. The location was perfect, about ten minutes from the grocery store, and not hard to find with the help of Google Maps. The location on the lake is back in a quiet cove which was great for swimming and jumping off the second level dock. The gas grill is hooked to the main tank in the house so you don't have to buy or swap a tank which was super convenient. Overall, the house was great and accommodated us very well.

We had two small issues during our stay which could not have been foreseen. With calls to the property manager there were professionals there to address the issues within two hours. I write this as a plus and not a condemnation; things happen. The property manager solved the problems quickly and without question. A+.

Would definitely rent again. Had a blast!

Great getaway for our family, super relaxing.

  • 4 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Lemon Zest. The home is spacious and comfortable. I believe it advertises sleeping 6, but it really sleeps 8, as there are 4 bedrooms. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes, serving and baking items, utensils etc. I cooked a full Easter dinner. And, we even made a recipe from the "Lemon Zest" recipe book for dessert! It was awesome.

We enjoyed fishing, canoeing, hot tubbing, and hiking in the state park nearby. We went to a beautiful Easter sunrise service too. We named the resident owl "Hootie"! We saw him up close!! It was a great way to spend the Easter getaway with our college student from Liberty!! And we thought the "lemon theme" was really fun!! Thank YOU!!

Lemon Zest is a nice home and comfortable, but is in need of some TLC.

  • 4 of 5

Outside, it was a beautiful day when we arrived, but we immediately had to clean the deck furniture which had not been cleaned in a long time, much less that day in preparation for our arrival. Going in October means lots of falling leaves and nuts, but it would have been a welcome safety measure if their groundskeeper folks could have walked the decks and walkways around the house, and the paths to the docks with a leaf blower. It is a hilly lot with switchback paths that have uneven steps. We understood that the cleaning crew was to have been at the property immediately prior to our check-in, but we ended up sweeping ankle high leaves from the decks and walkways. The driveway was dangerous, having nuts on the hard surface below the leaves that rolled like marbles when stepped on. Also, the hot tub had not been cleaned; a clean hot tub does not foam up like a washing machine. We cleaned the thick white “ring around the tub” and then removed as much of the foam as possible. Despite the strong chlorine odor, we got up the nerve to use the tub only to find that the few jets that do work were not powerful. Inside, the screened porch is a nice addition, but has been sinking/warped for some time and though there has been some recent repair, the room is far from level. It remains skewed which does not allow the screen door to close (one day a bird got trapped in there.) As far as the kitchen goes, some drawer fronts are damaged or broken. If you like to cook, the kitchen in general is not well equipped, the prep knives had apparently been run through the dishwasher many times, but there is a sharpening tool in the drawer beneath the knife block. The 2 large glass platters stored on top of the microwave had been put there without washing; they were deep with grease. We hope this constructive criticism gives the owner the chance to make some changes. On the positive side, the view is wonderful, the beds, and all furniture, are comfortable and the kitchen/laundry appliances work well, as does the heating system. We enjoyed the huge upper party deck above the dock a lot. We did not take advantage of the provided canoes, but we did rent a pontoon boat for the day. The location and dock were perfect for a day of boating. The house is in a great location, private and quiet but still close to stores and entertainment as well as 2 wineries. We enjoyed our stay. The weather was perfect, the starry nights incredible, and the people friendly. We hope to go back to SML soon

Owner's Response: We welcome constructive feedback, thank you. October is a wonderful time to visit SML and the area, lots of guests come especially to enjoy the fall foliage , colors, hike, etc. Sometimes the leaves are difficult to maintain until all have fallen, part of nature, since they fall on a daily basis at this time of year. We could have addressed this issue while you were here had we known. The same with hot tub issue, we do send serviceman out to check the tub if guests experience any problems, this in addition to regular service between tenants. Both of these issues have been reviewed--leaves cleared and no faults with the tub or chemistry. Delighted you experienced perfect weather and we appreciate the positive comments as well. Looking forward to serving you in the future.
