About the property

A Classic Alaska Dry Cabin on the Shores of Kenai Lake

This is the REAL Thing! An Alaskan recreational cabin located in the heart of the Kenai Peninsula. Off the Grid, No electricity, No cell service, hand pump well water, propane lights, and wood stove for heat. We have a Wild and Remote feel! But we're just moments from the Seward Highway (one of the top rated National Scenic Byways) and 19 miles north of Seward. Most likely you won't want to leave, just chill at the deck fireplace in the steamer chairs, sip your coffee or wine, BBQ some steaks, be....

But if you do have a hankering for adventure- fish charters out of Seward, the Seward Sealife Center, the world famous Kenai and Russian rivers, historic Hope, white water rafting the six mile, scenic floatplane rides, stunning historic trail hikes, and fabulous berry picking are all at your fingertips within 30 minutes or less..

If you are familiar with the forest service cabins all over Alaska and the US west you know the drill. We've just taken it to the next level of comfort! Wood provided! Scenes for Free! The soundtrack is lapping waves, float plane flybys, the Alaska Railroad 6 times a day through the property, and our resident eagle ( she sounds like a big chicken!)

The toilet facilities are an outhouse and bathing can be done at the lakefront sauna. Just like the old sourdoughs....

Swimming and Sauna use are at your Own Risk- the lake is COLD! It is a melted Glacier after all....

(We are 4 cabins located on 15 acres at the headwaters of the Kenai River! Check out our other listings! VRBO #790188, #728022, and #790190)

About Jan-Ake Schultz

We moved to Alaska in 2000 and were wonderfully fortunate to acquire this property. After building the cabin and raising Our family here, now is the time to share it with like-minded travelers who will appreciate its unique and magical features

Jan-Ake Schultz purchased this cabin in 2000

Why Jan-Ake Schultz chose Kenai Peninsula

This is no hotel room. If you sit on the deck and read about Alaska Nellie and the sourdoughs who pioneered this great land you will feel and be a part of the story. The Iditarod National Historic Trail runs along the frozen lakefront in winter......

What makes this cabin unique

History- You will pass the 100 Year old historic cabin on the way in, you will travel the gravel footpaths, you will watch the morning fog burn off the lake, you will witness and hear the flight of sandhill cranes overhead in season

Fantastic cabin with amazing waterfront view!

  • 5 of 5

Loved our stay at this cabin! Super location with plenty of privacy. The deck looking out to the lake and outdoor fireplace made us not want to leave the cabin at all. Use of kayaks or rowboats is a nice touch as well! We paddled around the lake and just enjoyed being on the water and enjoying nature. If you are looking for a peaceful setting on the water yet still close to Seward, this is the cabin for you! We stayed in the Chenega which has the most privacy and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We can't wait to visit again. Don't hesitate to book one of these adorable cabins!

Glamping done right!

  • 5 of 5

I was a bit nervous about the house not having running water, electricity or bathroom, but honestly we didn't miss any of them (not even the toilet). The cabin is a stone's throw from the water (literally, my son skipped a lot of stones) in an incredibly tranquil environment. The woodburning stove on the patio was a wonderful way to relax after a long day exploring Seward and the surroundings. Even the mosquitoes weren't bad with the fire and a few mosquito coils. Our teenage sons enjoyed exploring the lake -- especially loved the tree house. My parents stayed in their RV at the adjacent RV park, so it was easy to get together for dinner. Cooking dinner was actually very easy with 2 burners and a bbq for preparation and the top of the woodburning stove to keep things warm. I would definitely recommend for a family of 4 (or less). Hope to come back some day!

Wonderful Weekend....not long enough

Beautiful location.....Can't say enough wonderful things about to this place. It's got everything you need in a picturesque place. My only complaint is not being able to stay longer.

Best part of our trip!

  • 5 of 5

Staying in the cabin was the highlight of the trip for our family of 4. It was so beautiful and relaxing and so much to do. I wish we could have spent more time wandering around the cabin and enjoying the hot tub and sauna.

Despite being off the grid, it was extremely comfortable. The beds were comfy and the outhouse was very easy.

We definitely plan to go back someday. I highly recommend.

Amazing!!!

  • 5 of 5

We loved this cabin, it is realy amaizing!!! It makes you feel in the middle of no where, far away from civilization, even though you are just by the Seward Hwy.

We enjoy every thing, the cabin that is comfortable and beautiful, the lake that is gorgeus, the sauna and the kayaks. We would've liked them to have another pair of kayaks and that the letrin had been closer to the cabin. But anyway we highly recomend this experience, we really enjoyed it.

Greetings from Mexico.

absolutely amazing

  • 5 of 5

We LOVED this cabin and the surrounding area. The cabin is nestled up against a beautiful glacial lake with a snow capped mountain on the opposite side. We stay in later May of 2017 and after a week long vacation throughout the Kenai Peninsula, this cabin offered the quiet and respite we needed. No electricity, no WIFI, no problem. There are propane lit lanterns in the house that light the place up at dark and also a propane burner you can cook on. Our favorite was the wood-fired sauna on the property. I started the fire for this while my husband started the wood-fed fire for the hot tub. The hot tub took about 12 hours to reach a hot enough temp (we would add a log to the fire every hour), but it provided and awesome end to our night.

The sauna only took about 3 hours to reach the temp needed. We jumped into the lake after being in the sauna and it was SO refreshing. Can't recommend it enough. If you have the time, please check it out.

The cabin's amenities and decor were perfect. The bed / bedding was super comfortable. We already want to plan another trip back. Do yourselves a favor and book this amazing experience!!

"Remote" is the Alaskan description of a place off the road system and hard to get to; usually involving float planes, water taxis, snow machines, hiking, or skiing.... We feel "remote!" but are just 30 meters by garden cart from your parked car...
