About kelly hansen

We are a family of four living in Howell, Michigan in the Detroit suburbs. My husband, Jeff, is a financial planner and I own an interior design firm. Jeff and I like to restore old homes and buildings. Our offices are located in a fully restored, three story Victorian building in Downtown Howell. We love to ride our bikes. We have taken our tandems all over North America. We have a tandem for the boys and a tandem for the girls. We originally came to Three Oaks for the cycling, wineries and Lake Michigan. My children are now 15 and 17 and they helped us with the restoration of the vacation home which took 12 months to complete. They also like the in town location because it gives them a little freedom-- they can play at two nearby parks. They also enjoy the library, pharmacy and ice cream shops; all of which are a two block walk from the cottage. Now that we have a vacation home in Harbor Country we hope to enjoy the beautiful area year round and share it with family and guests.

Why kelly hansen chose Southwest

We chose this property because we have always loved Tudors. We were looking for a home that we could restore (it needed a lot of work). We also wanted a home that we could potentially move into in the future...this one had a main floor master, full basement and garage which is usual for older homes. We were also attracted to the pool and great location in the village.

Beautiful house, great location

  • 5 of 5

We visited the English Tudor house last week with another family (4 adults and 3 kids total) and had a wonderful time! We normally stay just outside Sawyer for a week each summer, but chose Three Oaks this year and enjoyed being able to walk downtown to Journeyman or to get ice cream for the kids. We were able to fit trips to all of our favorite local spots in Sawyer and Bridgman, as well as a day at Warren Dunes and a day-trip to Chicago. The pool is a real draw for the kids - I think they spent about four hours each day swimming, and the adults joined them for much of it! The home itself is beautifully decorated and fairly well-appointed. Best of all, Kelly is an incredibly responsive host and processed our deposit refund within only a couple hours of our departure! We highly recommend this home for a relaxing but fun week in Southwest Michigan!

Perfect family get-away!

  • 5 of 5

Impressive vacation home with all the items you need to make you feel "at home". Home was clean, roomy, and full of entertainment opportunities. The heated pool was a hit with the four grandkids; yard was fenced; gas grill and outside eating area were a bonus; board and yard games were a nice touch; beds were comfortable; two eating spaces were convenient; kitchen utensils and bedding linens were plentiful, and the availability of washer/dryer was helpful. Owner was easily accessible and answered early questions. Three Oaks was a short distance from beaches, restaurants, and retail. Local shops, parks, walking trails, library, and restaurants were charming and could have provided enough entertainment for the week. Bike trails were an added bonus! I would not hesitate in recommending this home and area for a great get-away!

Completely adorable!

  • 5 of 5

My family met from all over, to celebrate our parents 40th Anniversary at Lake Michigan. The cottage was a short 10 min drive from the lake. It accommodated us all perfectly! The kids were able to run around and play, while the adults had their own spot to sit and chat. The pool was the perfect touch, we used it every day, especially on days too chilly for the lake. Kelly, the owner, was very responsive and helpful throughout the booking process and the actual vacation. I highly recommend this rental.

Wonderful Property!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this lovely home for a week in mid-June. We had two adults, 3 kiddos, and our dog. :) The home was absolutely beautiful and immaculately clean, which is important to me. The beds were comfy as well. Loved having extra blankets and pillows on hand. We loved having a large dining table to enjoy dinners and board games as a family, and the pool was wonderful. Small issue with the pool heat, and the owner took care of it IMMEDIATELY. We couldn't say enough nice things about Kelly! We also loved how much outdoor seating we had, as well as a wonderful grilling/picnic area. The yard was just perfect for us and our fur friend to enjoy.

For those of you like myself that like to plan ahead for what to bring along or purchase, if you have little ones, I'd suggest picking up some paper plates and cups as all the dishes are glass. We only made small meals, so the kitchen was adequately stocked for us, but if you are planning to make large meals, you may consider bringing along additional pots and pans, but there were even some unexpected items available for use, such as a waffle maker and crock pot. :)

The beaches were just a few miles and minutes away, which was wonderful, and there is something delicious to eat all in and around the town of Three Oaks. Such a great little quiet spot to vacation! We absolutely loved our stay. As a family that almost exclusively vacations in the Smoky Mountains, we may have to make this area our new normal instead. We are so thankful for the use of this beautiful home!

Outstanding home, location & host!

  • 5 of 5

We spent a wonderful week at this beautiful home nestled in a great small town environment so close to Chicago. First of all, I can't say enough about the Owners / Hosts. Kelly was incredibly helpful and responsive. The home was immaculate, beautifully decorated and so comfortable. It was so great having the choice of the in-ground swimming pool in the peaceful, private fenced-in yard, while still being a short drive to local beaches. We were able to bring our Wheaten Terrier which was awesome. We enjoyed morning walks to Froelich's for coffee every morning, we rented bikes for the week at the local shop and we loved the Staymaker Restaurant at the Journeyman's Distillery. All in all, this was a perfect, relaxing getaway that I am sure we will return to in the future.

Pure Relaxation!

  • 5 of 5

I hated to leave the beautiful English Tudor and the peace and quiet of the neighborhood in which it's located. It is within walking distance of downtown Three Oaks where you can grab a delicious bite or see an independent film. Minutes away from Lake Michigan beaches and lighthouses. I enjoyed the beach at the very nearby Union Pier and a 30-minute drive to St. Joseph. This home is spacious yet cozy. Perfect for relaxing, reading, napping, or television watching on a rainy day or cold night on one of several sets in various rooms. I also enjoyed the completely updated kitchen and all it's ammenities perfect for preparing meals for one or for 10 people that can can easily be accomodated in the absolutely gorgeous dining room. I wanted for absolutely nothing the weekend I spent here except more time...
