The house was built in 1954 after a trip to the north woods where the original owner first admired the wood interiors.
We purchased the house in July 2014 and began our adventure of painstakingly restoring the home to it’s original beauty. Our completion on the main floor was completed in April 17, 2015.
The small city of Delavan is located in southeastern Wisconsin near the Illinois border. Once the home of a large circus colony, today Delavan caters to visitors who enjoy outdoor activities including golf, water sports, hiking and skiing. Delavan offers over 100 acres of nature preserves, the Dribble Nature Trail, the New Hollister Wetlands Conservancy, golf courses and one of Wisconsin's largest ski resorts.
We continue to collect mid-century piece to replicate the original time frame and hope you enjoy your stay.
We met in 1974 and married in 1976.
Tony is a hardworking renaissance man. He can build, fix, repair and repurpose anything. He loves fishing and that’s how we came to love Lake Delavan. We would come up here to fish for the day.
I, Andrea love to cook, garden and have become the tree hugger in the family. Life is an adventure and I meet people along the way that just add to this adventure.
After this many years of being married we have a wonderful sense of working together as partners and look at this as a new adventure.
We hope you enjoy the home and thank you for being part of our adventure.
Andrea purchased this house in 2014
We came to know the original owner and loved the history and wanted to restore it to it's original beauty. Being next door made it easier for us to work on it every chance we could.
This beautiful home is a restored 1954 home.
This was our first VRBO experience and it was terrific -- Andrea was very helpful with the booking and all our questions before we even arrived. As many others have mentioned, the décor is true '50s ... authentic but updated where needed (bathroom, etc.). But two biggest treats were 1. that every inch of the home is spotlessly clean, gleaming wood and well cared for and 2. the quiet, comfortable neighborhood made us feel like we were enjoying out own vacation home :) I loved that we have a view of the lake across the street and saw a beautiful sunrise the first morning. I love the comfortable beds and each having out own room was a treat as one of us is more of a night owl that the other. The welcome book told us all we needed to know about our stay and the property and I love that Tony and Andrea included the story of how they came to buy this particular home. We are planning a return visit maybe in the summer to see all the flowers in bloom!
Great place - plenty of room for 4 adults. It actually was bigger than it looked in the pictures. Had pretty much everything we needed for our stay. The retro couches in the living room were very comfortable. The refrigerator was nice & big - great for all the brats, cheese curds, bacon, jerky & craft beer we bought during our stay. Was located in a very nice area with trees overgrowing the streets - close to both Delavan & Lake Geneva. Even saw about a dozen wild turkeys cruise through the back yard on our last morning there. Only drawback was the cell service was spotty inside the home. Would recommend checking out downtown Delavan - lots to see there. Also, a trip to Sorg's for brats, jerky, bacon & fresh cheese curds should be on everyone's list.
All contact & questions I had with the owners got quick responses. Enjoyed our stay there and would definitely rent again if we are ever back in that area.
Such a fun home! We loved the peace and quiet the neighborhood provided, while only being a short 10-20 minute drive to Lake Geneva and other nearby attractions. The home had everything we needed and was very clean. Thanks Tony and Andrea!
Great small pad for our trio of college buddies to hang out for the weekend near Chicago. (about 1.5 hour drive from O'hare) The house is retro-cool with plenty of comfortable seating in the living space, a great little bar with cocktail glassware—which we made use of when mixing manhattans—and a very nice backyard space with a big grill for steaks. The beds were comfortable, and the kitchen and bath well outfitted with utensils, trash bags, paper products and toiletries.
We didn't venture off the property much for the two days we were there. It was a very quiet neighborhood and we saw wild turkeys outside all over. We enjoyed our stay. We would definitely come back again.
My only suggestion would be to invest in some steak knives for the kitchen...the cutlery was pretty dull and there wasn't much of it when tucking into a bone-in ribeye. :)
It was so nice to be in a house rather than hotel so we could cook some meals and didn't have to worry about our infant's crying disturbing anyone. The house was nice and close to the family we came to visit while giving us our own space. We enjoyed it very much.
My friends and I stayed here for two nights for a girls weekend a few weeks ago. We enjoyed the amenities of staying in a cabin versus a hotel. The location is good for local activities, about 15 minute drive from Lake Geneva and close to several beaches. The cabin is fully stocked with kitchen items and towels. It was a hot weekend when we were there and it was a bit warm when you were cooking with only the two window units in the bedrooms. Overall the beds are very clean, comfortable, we enjoyed our time there!
My main complaint is more with VRBO because of the way they handle damage deposits. When I was booking I was told the owner required a 100.00 damage deposit, which seemed very reasonable and fair. I had no problem paying it because I knew we would get it back. However, the rental also requires you to pay a 1,500.00 deposit or buy insurance for 60.00. I don't have the ability to float 1,500.00 in damage deposit so I choose the insurance, however, when I asked the homeowner why I was being charged 100.00 damage deposit and required to proved an addition 1,500.00 in coverage I was told "it is the way the company protects us." Protects you from what? I understand you are opening your home to strangers and if we had damaged something severely we would have paid for it. It just seemed like over kill to require both and maybe its a policy by VRBO, I'm not sure, but I also felt the homeowner did not provide much information.
I would recommend this rental as a nice place to stay if you don't mind all the damage coverage and additional charges.
