Owner Judy Peabody was born and raised on the Peabody family farm in Upstate New York. As an adult, she was privileged to enjoy many years living in the deep south before relocating to the east coast. A spontaneous family vacation brought Judy to the Shenandoah Valley. Her love for the Valley kept her coming back. Years later it became Judy's full-time home.
Judy uses her love for reuse/recycle to convert her already lovely home into a relaxing oasis she has welcomed many. Often she has given out keys to share what she refers t as a gift. There is no doubt this home is uniquely blessed.
As a multi-degreed professional in the D.C. area, Judy most previously worked in the insurance industry as an employer advocate. The travel on the east coast giving presentations to many offered the opportunity for Judy to meet many people and have wonderful experiences. This year when "blessed" with a layoff, Judy used her time and talents to put together this unique oasis to fulfill a dream she was encouraged to pursue for quite some time. Judy hopes many will get to visit Luray and enjoy her VA Green Travel Leader Award Winning 5-Star Rated B&B full of sunshine!
Judy K. Peabody purchased this house in 2014
The path to this property for Judy was a smooth one blessed with many twists and turns. In 2012, having made the decision to find a temporary and part-time place in Luray to spend long weekends, Judy began the pursuit of a home. With a visit to "Shenandoah Moon" on Mother's Day set the pace. On this ladies' weekend the road to the East Main Street home was found. In 2014, upon prompting from the awesome owner (for whom without I would not be here today), Judy made the decision to buy this sunny oasis and closed July 1, 2014.
"Warm" and "inviting" is how it is described by others. From the instant you walk in, you will see the uniqueness of the environment and the views of the little town and it's mountains. I guarantee you will fall in love with this special home.
Your SUITE is all yours! ALL of it! For as long as YOU want it! It will be all about YOU! You will not be bothered, except for a tasty breakfast brought to your door unless you buy up to one of our features or need assistance. I promise this will be a fun and relaxing experience to remember.
The "lobby" features "The Unique Boutique" with artist and artisan finds from Maryland and Virginia not duplicated in the area. This came about to help budding entrepreneurs like myself get a start. Besides, don't you like a gift shop when you travel right in your lobby? Each artist and artisan has his or her own personality and gift sure to add personality as a gift to your life!
While here choose to plant a perennial in "Peabody's Community Garden" so your plant can grow along with the spirit you have left when you choose to leave (if you can!). You are invited to decorate a rock from my original home "The Peabody Farm" in Upstate New York to accompany your plant. Fun!
Peabody's Hip Little Stay is a fun place to rest after hiking in the Shenandoah National Park. My husband and I hike Old Rag every October, and like to find new places to experience for the 2 days we are there. This B&B is roomier than expected, with the amenities of coffee and a lighter style breakfast being brought up to your room around 8:30- 9:00 AM. The atmosphere is relaxed and Judy does a great job of giving you your space with your loved one. The hot tub with a view of the mountains was a great way to unwind after the 9.6 mile Old Rag hike! Judy and her dog, Miss Helen, are friendly, warm, and Judy gives excellent advice on where to have a wonderful meal in town. We recommend Peabody's Hip Little Stay!

My husband and I had a great time at Shenandoah and Luray. The Bed and Breakfast was great and Miss Helen (resident doggie) was a wonderful surprise!
What an amazing stay and welcomed with open arms! We are a little late writing this review but we wanted to express how hip this little B&B is! We loved our quiet guest room and sitting room on the top floor with plenty of space and privacy. Special details everywhere including books, personal notes from Judy and morning coffee in our room. We had a delicious breakfast and encouraged our host to join us-and she did! Judy was also kind enough to invite my Mom who lives nearby! Judy is a gem and her comfortable and special B&B are truly a treat and a home away from home. Located within easy walking distance to downtown antique shopping and local restaurant favorites but just far enough away from the hustle and bustle of this lovely small town and my home town. Our own backdoor to come and go as we please, fire pit and hot tub. Beautiful views of the mountains. This is a B&B and home full of peace and love. We look forward to coming back soon!
We're frequent travelers, and this little b+b ranks up there with our most pleasant retreats. While not fancy or over-the-top luxurious, Judy creates a comforting, very clean, and welcoming environment for her guests. She's very warm and friendly but only as chatty as you want to be, and seems perfectly suited to her job as a B+B host. Much appreciated touches were yummy breakfasts, delicious homemade cookies, a fire pit (complete with complementary s'mores fixings) and a hot tub. The outdoor space in the back yard is currently a bit on the bare side to provide much of a feeling of privacy, but will undoubtedly be lovely as recent plantings mature and more are added. The guest suite on the top floor is very private, comfortable, and spacious. The B+B is well-located in the little town of Luray, close to the caverns, a few decent restaurants, a pretty creekside greenway, and Shenandoah National Park, and Judy is very helpful with suggestions about nearby attractions and restaurants. A really great experience--- we hope to return!!
Perfect place to be yourself with privacy and style! Judy is a wonderful cook and very entertaining.
Every aspect of this stay has been very enjoyable and exceeded our expectations.
The property is clean, well-maintained and beautifully decorated. We had all needed stuff and amenities, like hot tub, fresh linens, coffee machine, and even more (e.g. numerous board games, books and guide maps) in our disposal.
Judy is a very attentive host who truly cares about her residents. She anticipates what we need even before we know we need it:) Breakfasts served with homemade cakes and jam were really delicious!
We would definitely recommend this property to everyone who is looking for a wonderful vacation spot in a quite and picturesque place.
Up to 5 guests should they be able to leave this 'Hip Little Stay' can walk to all monuments, stores, restaurants, galleries, the Saturday Farmer's Market (9-1 seasonal), outdoor and indoor music, a wonderful movie theater, two live performance centers, beautiful parks, the Singing Tower and finally the Hawksbill Greenway.
Within a short drive are many venues including the zoo, caverns, wineries, golf, hiking, horseback riding, zip lining and much, much more!
My favorite activity in the summer is kayaking the Shenandoah. There are a variety of outfitters to meet this need or bring your own canoe or kayak!
For every season there is an activity suitable for you and your family. From an indoor water park to underground caverns to high top mountain views we are lucky enough to have it all and want to share it!
