Take a step back to a simpler time, this early era Isle of Palms beach house is very comfortable and convent to the beach. On the corner, only one block to the beach with a caution walk at Palm blvd makes this home a great place to spend a relaxing get away in a quiet neighborhood. You can hear the waves crash the beach while enjoying one of the many porches and I decks. The unit is a two bedroom, two bath upstairs unit of a duplex.
The house has hardwood floors, and many family antiques. You will feel right at home. The master suite with California king and twin day bed and private full/shower bath,. Also a Queen bedroom, and there is a reading area with click/clack futon and hall full/tub bath.
The living dining area has full couch, love seat and oversized chair with some antique and family furnishings: 1870 handmade china cabinet, Victorian marble top table, a working 1927 Victor Victrola and '60's era accents tables. There is a 42" HDTV, extended package cable TV with DVD player and stereo with CD player. The kitchen has updated Stainless Steel appliances with tile countertops and bar that open to the entire living area. A very private unit with private screened porch that opens onto a hammock deck (all storm damage has been repaired). There is also a Sun/Moon Deck on the roof that is ideal for enjoying a glass of wine, star gazing and taking in the wonderful ocean breezes in the evening. The back deck is prefect to entertain, enjoy a nice meal, accessible from the kitchen with a new table that seats six and gas grill.
The pool is on the enclosed side of the house accessible from the back. A great pool for floating and relaxing with nice deck equipped with table and chairs, also a couple of lounge chairs great for catching the afternoon sun. About Bob redding
I'm Bob, a long time island resident. I moved to Mt. pleasant with my family just before high school. I have worked in the Hospitality/restaurant industry my whole career. I lived in the upstairs unit for many years; so, there are many family items in the rental. I work part time in Asheville, NC and work at the Wild Dunes resort on Isle of Palms part time. I do maintain the downstairs as my permenant residence for tax and residence status during the fall winter and spring. During the summer I reside in Mt. Pleasant to provide the vacation renter privacy. You will see me at the house to clean and maintain the pool and yard, but I will not interfere with your vacation. Those guest that have met me will attest to my hospitable nature.
Why Bob redding chose Isle of Palms
Location, location, location. The house is convenient to the beach, parks, shopping, restaurant and Charleston. It is very comfortable in a simple way.

Enjoyed our stay!
I'll try to be a little more descriptive below, but the main thoughts and impressions from myself and family were that this property is very cozy with great access to the beach and very close to what the island offers. If we make it back down to Charleston in the future, we will be looking at this property first.
My family and I have been looking forward to and planning our trip for the eclipse for almost two years now. We currently live in Philly and wanted access to a section of the beach that wouldn't be crowded. We also wanted access to a pool and to be close enough to main attractions. We excitedly reserved this property and made our initial deposit. After two months, we checked back in and saw new reviews that left us worried: concerns about the air conditioning, access to the property, internal amenities, etc.
I reached out to the property owner (Bob) and wanted to raise our concerns while allowing him an opportunity to respond. He maturely and respectfully addressed the issues brought up with other guests and we were very satisfied with his answers. However, we were still a bit unsure of what to expect and, while packing for the trip, tried to guard ourselves from high expectations. However, we are all happy to say that we were fortunately surprised at the quality upon arriving.
The kitchen is decently sized with enough room to comfortably prepare meals. There were enough parking spaces for up to three vehicles, maybe more! There are two bedrooms but also additional sofas and places to sleep or simply relax. Rooms are organized and decorated sufficiently and the AC kept it very comfortable, even in the middle of August. The two showers also make it easy for several people to get dressed or changed quickly.
As for the landlord, I also had a chance to speak with him directly when arriving and before leaving. Unfortunately, one of the main reasons we chose this property was the pool but the liner ripped the morning we arrived and the part was not available until a few days later as we were preparing to leave. Bob was upfront with this and there really was nothing he personally could do to prevent this, but he seemed very genuine in his efforts to remedy the situation. Again, between his email response and our brief conversations on-site, I have a very good impression of him.
If you're looking for a cozy joint with great access to the beach, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better alternative without paying much more!
Perfect beach house!
My husband and I traveled with our dog and two small children. The house was perfect! We had plenty of space and the house is so close to the beach/beach access. There were plenty of towels to use for the bathroom and the kitchen was well stocked. The pool was awesome to have as a place to relax after a long day at the beach. Our daughter gave it a 10 out of 10! We would stay again in a heartbeat.
Family Friendly & Great Owner
We loved being in town for the whole weekend. Bob is easy-going and a great host. Everything you need is one location: pool, pet friendly, easy beach access. The pool and house are clean and well stocked. The property was easy to navigate even with a baby in tow. We'll be back!
Clean house, decent location, needs considerable updating
-House was clean.
-Located a couple blocks from the beach and about a 15 min walk to the boardwalk shops/restaurants/bars. For those unfamiliar with IOP, BE AWARE that you do have to cross Palm Blvd. to get to the beach...this is the island's main road and can be VERY busy. This isn't really a "negative," as most of the properties on the beach-side of Palm Blvd. are either huge, expensive houses or condos closer to the shops, so you'd have to deal with this with most IOP rentals.
-The house is old and shows its age. There has been some updating, particularly to the master bedroom, but this is clearly a 1950's beach house. The fixtures in the main bathroom shower are old and a bit rusty. The furniture throughout looks mostly second-hand. The front porch has unfixed water damage. Washer and dryer are in a dirty room open to the outside. Exterior needs cleaned up and even a fresh coat of paint would do wonders. What has been updated looks very "home handyman" quality. In short, the house needs some TLC to be what's expected from an IOP rental property.
-The AC is inconsistent. You'll be shivering in bed when it kicks on but sweating when it turns off. Also, the AC compressor is directly outside of the master bedroom and adjacent to the pool deck...a poor location when it comes to noise.
-Pool is on the side of the residence and you have to walk down the rear stairs to the ground floor and around the back of the house to access it.
-Master bed was just ok...I've slept in worse, but it wasn't 5-star hotel quality, either.
-The description doesn't say it anywhere, but this is an upstairs/downstairs duplex. The rental is the UPSTAIRS ONLY and the property owner lives downstairs. We found this out through research prior to our arrival and the owner was gone for most of our stay, but this should really be clearly stated in the description, as it could be a big deal for some people.
Three stars (more like 2.5, but I'll give the benefit of the doubt) mostly for the location and that, despite the problems, it was clean. Needs updating before it's worth the price.
The house was cute and a very easy walk to the beach. We enjoyed our stay overall, but I find it very odd that no review nor the home info mentions anywhere that the owner lives and stays on the property. There was a mention of a private apartment but that was it. It was not a bother, but would be a nice detail to note. The home needs some love in places. Still going through some repairs and the deck on the second level screened in porch was soft from water damage. The guest bedroom was not a comfortable mattress and couldn't sleep on it. Even a little mattress topper would do wonders to that bed. Isle of Palms is overall such a fun place to go and we will be back!!!
Needs work - owner lives on property
No mention that owner lives and stays on property. We rent a house for privacy and were not expecting anyone else there. The home was very clean, but in need of repair. Cooktop was cracked, basics only in kitchen. Laundry room is only accessed from outside and was dirty and no door. Still going through repairs, upper and lower decks were soft from water damage. No direct access to pool, must walk around house. The pool decking was not relaxing because the a/c compressor is ear level on deck and very noisy. Also the a/c is not great, wasn't too hot when we were there, but imagine in summer house would be very hot. Easy walk to beach, but bring your own chairs, the ones mention were not great. Beds not that comfortable, master bedroom needs a headboard, pillows kept falling in open space, and needs new bed pillows, they were terrible. All in all not what we expected.
