About Donna Tait

This home was built in 2008 for an adoring owner who loved the Hawaiian culture, climate and landscape. She was focused on health and well-being and turned the 5 acres into an organic orchard which continues to serve local shops to this day. We currently live on the West Coast of Canada, but take every opportunity to get back to the warm ocean to swim and relax.

Why Donna Tait chose Opihihale

We love so many things about this place - we love the climate! It's cooler at night which makes sleeping so comfortable in an otherwise tropical environment. We love that you can swim in warm, ocean waters every day, there are things to do but you can also do nothing amidst these lush gardens and enjoy the sun and the blissful peace and quiet.

What makes this house unique

This single level home is fully equipped with a gourmet kitchen where friends can belly up to the kitchen island. The home boasts well-appointed spacious bedrooms and luxurious living areas with all the modern technologies and conveniences.

The great outdoors include a luxury shower off the master bedroom and a bbq/dining area off the living area.

A hidden paradise that will soothe your soul

  • 5 of 5

I've been a very fortunate person in my life being able to travel extensively around the world. In fact I attended a wedding at the most luxurious resort on the Big Island but chose this little house pretty much on a whim. The quality of this home, coupled with its unparalleled surroundings, is honestly at a level which all homeowners that rent their properties should aspire to. You feel absolutely honored to spend some time here, a magical place tucked back into the woods.

First of all you immediately recognize how tasteful and attractive the interior of the main house is from the floors, to the cabinetry, lamps, furniture, display cases, etc. It's absolutely pristine. The kitchen is spectacular with every possible amenity you could want highlighted by an excellent gas stove which a true chef would appreciate. It is a kitchen ideal for a long-term stay or entertaining a large group and all the appliances are high, high, quality. Plus there are plenty of utensils for the outdoor gas grill which worked perfectly. The master bedroom is roomy with a bed as comfortable as you are going to find, a tv if you need it, and a full jaccuzi and shower in the bathroom. Everything about the interior of this house is classy, warm, comfortable, and unpretentious.

If this was a home without much property in Kona it would still be wonderful and very inviting. What is waiting for you the guest, once you step outside, is truly special. It's indescribable really that this is all yours for a day, week, or if you are so fortunate an extended period of time. You have your own orchard! Enough said! During my time the grapefruit and lemons were outstanding. Walking among the trees you will notice some exotic fruits depending upon the season and all sorts of interesting vegetation. The yard is large enough for crochet, bocce, or even a little football. The pond with the Koi fish was a treat and the colorful little birds and roosters are always there to make you smile.

This home is ideal for one person, a family, or several couples. It's hard to tear yourself from the property because it is just so peaceful and relaxing. I was initially concerned that the location would be an issue but actually the local restaurants within 20 mins are quite good as is the grocery store. You are also close enough to great beaches, golf, and many of the highlights of Hawaii. In closing Donna the owner and Barb the manager are awesome. This place is special.

Beautiful, serene and isolated.

We were overwhelmed by the home and it’s surroundings. We spent a lot of our time on the island at the property because it was the best part of our vacation. We feel lucky to have found it and will always cherish our experience.

This is the best stay all six of us have had in years. So well decorated and the kitchen is simply outstanding. We enjoyed several meals, several drinks and stories on the veranda. Great memories. We are already planning a return in the next few years. Best and many thanks, Jim

The house was amazing!!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at the property. It was decorated perfect we even managed to get a couple ripe grapefruit from the tree heavenly juicy. We are contemplating when we can go back but I will tell you that whenever we go back to Kona I'll be doing my best to stay here. Donna is an awesome owner allowed us to use the house later because our flight wasn't until 9pm hated to see it end but we'll be back thanks again for the lively house.

Peaceful, Private and Relaxing

  • 5 of 5

This home has most everything you could possibly need. We enjoyed the privacy, the fully equipped kitchen and relaxing on the large lanai. Musicians in our group loved playing the Fender guitar the owners have in the home. Caretakers Barb and Jeremy were very helpful and available. The home was spotless when we arrived and the attention to detail was very much appreciated (the Kona coffee was a really nice touch :). Thank you for a perfect stay.

Fabulous home, location, and experience! Best vacation yet !!!

  • 5 of 5

The title "Private Plantation Paradise" says it all!!! Upon arrival, my wife and I were completely amazed at the luxury of this home. the quality of the furnishings, the exotic décor, the 5 acre property, the layout, the mahogany hardwood floors and framings, I could go on and on! I must say I have not enjoyed a vacation this much in my life, and it was mostly because of the fantastic home that Donna has opened to enjoy. Absolutely gorgeous!! We cooked excellent meals in the chefs kitchen and BBQ'ed steaks and ribs on the grill... thank you so much Donna and Barb, very well done I must say!!! We will visit again soon - oh yes, we also enjoyed the Big island :-)))
