Fishing And Boating Getaway Close To Everything

Bedrooms 2
Space 1,700 sq ft
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

2 Br 2 Ba Riverfront With Double, Covered Dock.

NOTE: We suffered the loss of several large trees and other landscape damage from Hurricane Irma in Sep. of 2017. Tree removal and hardscape restoration have been completed, but we will be planting new trees and shrubs soon. Some exterior photos are pre-hurricane. There was no damage to any structures, thank goodness!

Originally a Boy Scout camp log cabin, this delightful home has been expanded and updated for modern comfort. Fully-stocked kitchen, large living area with 15-ft open-beam ceiling, fireplace, large screen TV, U-Verse, Blue-ray, WiFi. Washer and dryer, complete central air and heat. Covered porch, wraparound deck with outdoor dining area, large fire ring, lower deck at river's edge with built-in seating, covered double boat dock with two 10,000 lb. boat lifts, fish cleaning station, crab traps, double hammock at seawall; plenty of parking.

NOTE: Due to previous abuses, we no longer allow weddings.

About Katie Price

We are retired living in Marietta GA. We bought the property in October of 2014 as a vacation destination and an investment. We spent 8 months working to bring it up to our standards of comfort and appeal, doing most of the work ourselves. Everett is the remodeling expert, Katie is the landscape and interior designer, and photographer. We hope our visitors will enjoy the cabin as much as we do.

Katie Price purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Katie Price chose Northside

We were charmed by this home the first time we saw it. Having been built in the early 20th century, it is much older than the subdivision that was developed around it in the '30s and '40s.

It is close to the Jacksonville airport, 3 minutes off of I-95, 15 minutes from downtown, Everbank Field, and riverfront attractions. The beach is only a 30 minute drive. Yet when you reach the cabin, you feel you're away from it all. Views of the Ribault (REE-bawt) River from most rooms. Across the river is tidal marsh filled with birds; manatees and dolphins can be seen from time to time. Heavy woods beyond the marsh make the property feel very private. Observing the ebb and flow of the tide gives you an ever-changing view. There are even two crab traps! Fishing off of the dock does not require a state license.

NOTE: There is a second house on the property which is leased to a nice, quiet young couple. They have a small dog that stays inside most of the time. We think we have provided sufficient privacy between the houses that you shouldn't find things uncomfortable. Becoming vacation home owners and landlords at the same time was an interesting experience.

What makes this cabin unique

Secluded location. Charming log cabin interior. Large private, fenced yard. Excellent boating and fishing destination. Great for kayaking and paddleboarding in the marshes at high tide. Property includes covered double boat dock with two 10,000 lb. boat lifts, fish cleaning station, double hammock, and kayak/canoe launch site. Public boat ramp 1/4-mi upriver, 40 minutes by boat to the ocean, 25 minutes to downtown Jacksonville where boaters can tie up almost anywhere. Watching sunsets from either of the decks or the dock is a very special experience!

Fun relaxing getaway!

  • 5 of 5

This was our 3rd stay, and it keeps getting better and better. The cabin is the perfect place to get away and relax. The weather this February was perfect, and we were able to have coffee in the morning and wine in the evening on the deck. The kitchen has everything you could possibly need if you love to cook. I cooked a fabulous Valentine's Day dinner for hubby and I, and had friends over another day for gumbo. Katie and Everett have done a beautiful job with the landscaping in the backyard. We can't wait to return for another stay in this quaint and cozy cabin.

Well appointed cabin

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay in the river cabin. This Owner has the house exceptionally well prepared for guests. Light switches are labeled, incidentals not normally present in rental homes are available almost as well as if it were your own home. The house was close to the highway and made exploring the city easy. This is in an older neighborhood, but the river setting and back yard is park-like. Weather didn't cooperate for use to get to use the kayaks, but we did try several of the local restaurants recommended and explored the Avondale main street shops. Big Talbot state park was a nice hike and walk on the beach with not too many tourists and its a nice drive out to the park. Thanks for sharing your cabin with us.

Awesome getaway and well managed!

  • 5 of 5

This place is a gem. It feels private, has great charm and having a dock is fantastic. It is so peaceful to hang out on the dock, and we did a little fishing with the poles that were available in the house. This property is a relaxed getaway spot, but there are nice activities like a fire pit (and s'mores stuff stocked in the house), hammock, games in the main room, etc. There is even a crab catching thingy attached to the dock for your use. The owners of this house clearly take pride in providing their guests an enjoyable and full experience, and it makes a big difference!
