About Sheila

I am inspired by traveling, meeting new people, and exploring new cultures. Besides living in the US, I have lived in Costa Rica, Panama, Hawaii, the Netherlands, and Venezuela. Traveling, I have become best friends with fellow couch surfers and have had the opportunity to work in a butterfly garden, teach yoga, Spanish, and English. I am currently back in MN raising my 2 year old son and working at coordinating music festivals. I am only able to survive life in MN by leaving for part of the winter. My soul sings with the sun and I take every opportunity that I get to be somewhere warm.

Sheila purchased this house in 2002

Why Sheila chose Minneapolis

I purchased this property while I was going to college. At that time I had a great time living there with all my college friends. It was so nice living under the same roof but also having two separate spaces. As the years went by I was able to come and go from here between my travels. It was so nice to always have a place to come home to. I have done so much work to this house in the past ten years. It has been an amazing learning and growth experience for me. It is definitely filled with my blood, sweat and tears. I am now married and have my 2 year old son. We have now purchased a home in the suburbs but I am so happy to now be able to use the space to share with others traveling through.

What makes this house unique

The house was built in 1888. I love the history that this home holds. I love the diversity of the neighborhood and how convenient it is to get to most parts in and out of the city. It is close to walk or bike to parks, Minnihaha Falls, coffee shops, restaurants, and bars.

Our Stay

  • 5 of 5

Was here for a business convention. Everything worked out great and as stated in the description provided. Met the owners and they were pleasant and eager to assist when I needed them for help. House is older and in an older neighborhood, but this is not really a negative in my opinion. The area was quiet and seemed perfectly safe and neighbors were good from our experience. Recommend for short stays, for a longer stay might have needed more room (shower/bathroom is very small) and there was three of us, but overall I rate it 95% for our stay and needs!

Would stay here again. Nice place. Sufficient amenities. Clean and bright.

Have no serious issues with this rental. Upper unit was rented also and being an older home we could here the occupants walking and talking. Not a problem as it was quiet after 10pm.

Location was convenient to the city center.

Charming home, great location

  • 4 of 5

The home has exactly the kind of charm you expect from an older home- wood floors, stained glass windows. We appreciated the window a/c units as the weather was hot and humid when we visited. Walking distance to a large park and to some local eateries. Very convenient drive to the airport, the Mall of America or a few large lakes for recreation. Very nice to have a parking spot, so you do not have to find a spot on the street (this is a fairly busy area with limited street parking at night) And very convenient to have a washer and dryer in the unit. Great communication from the homeowner, easy access with clear directions.

older home older neighborhood

  • 3 of 5

Although Sheila was very attentive and did all she could to accommodate my family the house had many flaws. It is an old home with outdated fixtures and furniture. The location is close to many amenities including the airport and Mall of America but it is also a block away from some questionable bars and a busy area. The price is affordable for families just needs some updating on furniture and utilities and outdoor tables and chairs for families to gather. Minneapolis was a bustling, warm and friendly place to visit and we will definitely be back someday to visit.

Owner's Response: Even though I personally think the couches were super comfy to sink into, I agree that they needed updating and I just purchased some new ones and had them moved into the house yesterday. I have owned the home for 14 years now and lived in the home for 8 plus years and can not think of any questionable bars that are a block away but agree that Lake St. which is a few blocks away is busy. I appreciate this however, because I can walk to the Post Office or the Mexican Market to get fresh Tamales or a funky little coffee shop. City living definitely isn't for everyone but for those wanting easy access to restaurants, shopping, bike trails, and major highways it can be great despite the fact that it is busy.
