Quirky but disappointing

  • 3 of 5

First in all fairness this was not the property we were originally booked into. I blame VRBO for this. Our original booking got cancelled by the owner for renovation reasons about 2 weeks before we were to arrive. We had already booked flights, restaurants etc and could not cancel our trip to celebrate a 70th birthday nor did we want to. The first person we talked to was very helpful and told us not to worry that they would find a comparable place for us to stay and when we contacted them again (VRBO) we were told that we had to choose from a disappointing choice. We have used VRBO many times before and have always been happy with our apartments, not this time though.

This rental, though in a lovely area was too far from where we wanted to be and we had to take a taxi ever where.

The place itself was not properly attended to. The dryer was full of towels with no place to put them. The bedroom closet was full of wet towels so you did not want to put your clothes in there. The fridge had a rotten apple in it and it was very hard to close the fridge without pushing the door and fridge slightly to the side.

Privacy was an issue because the side of the house goes up a hill where people walk right by and can see in. There is a small window in the bedroom high up but very hard to reach it to open the blinds but if you did people could see right in. Also because you enter the apt on one level and have to go down another level to the kitchen and then up another level to the bedroom (all with stairs) it was a bit dangerous especially for older people. There is no toaster just a toaster oven. The stove was in good order though we did not use it but no kettle. There was a coffee pot but we like to boil our water. Also there is no dishwasher and only 1 dish towel so we had to use paper towels to dry things with.

There was only 2 sets of bath towels (1 for each of us) and since we couldn't use the washer/dryer we couldn't wash or dry them. Also there were no instructions on how to use appliances, where to go and what to see. The sofa was comfortable and the TV was good & big. The dining room table in the kitchen was beautiful and the decorations very eclectic.

The place was also very cold. They have heaters but then it got very hot and very hard to control and would not want to leave them on overnight.

Overall we would not stay here again and if this was our apartment that we were renting out we would make it more inviting & comfortable.

Wonderful location

  • 5 of 5

Great place in a great location. Unit was clean, tidy and convenient to Marina and Cow Hollow shops/restaurants. There are a lot of stairs in this unit, some with unexpected sizing, so I'd caution anyone with any walking challenges.

Lovely apartment in quiet neighborhood

  • 4 of 5

I loved this apartment. It's in a great location of SF, Cow Hollow, which is a lovely, quiet neighborhood in a wonderful location. Walking distance to Presidio, Palace of the Fine Arts, Union Street, and Chrissy Field. The apartment was exactly as described and very spacious. The only thing I would add is that the upstairs neighbors were quite noisy every night of our stay from 12am-430am. It sounded like they were either doing some construction project or moving furniture around? Hopefully this was just an issue during our stay, but I would bring a pair of earplugs just in case.

Great Stay

  • 4 of 5

This flat was located on a very nice street surrounded by very elegant properties. The flat was exceptionally clean with everything needed for a nice stay. The only minor drawback was the noise created by the upstairs neighbors. They were quite loud and very active, especially around 10-11 p.m. each night. Despite the noise, we enjoyed our stay and would definitely consider renting this place again. Quick response from owner in re: to business transactions.

Great place for the right person

  • 4 of 5

Location, Location, Location - The space is beautiful and location is a 5 on a scale of 1-10. It is a hike to main streets - if you are not use to the inclines and declines type of streets (many of them). But if you are adventurous- you should be fine. Beautiful manicured homes all around low car traffic, people and dog moderate traffic. Not far from the site you can pick up a shuttle that takes you straight to downtown SF from the Presidio. and other public transport at the abundance.

restaurants and bars: good assortments .

Grocery stores - good amounts, even specialty one for our inner foodie

The space, as described the front of the property and inside the unit - Stairs, then stairs and more stairs (all averaging 4-5 steps) . The refrigerator is nice - but is a challenge to maneuver - be careful to always check the backdoor lock after you open and close the frig door ( you gotta be there to understand).

For the cost the owners could provide some better amenities like: soap and scour pad to wash dishes( no dishwasher), I could not find broom, and ran out of toilet paper.

great place, good spot, walkable( depending) , lotsa a transportation options!!!
