Amazing Historic Home on the Lake's Edge with 6 bedrooms and outstanding views.
Leave the city behind and dive into the back country life. Nothing compares to this magnificent home for a getaway. Built in 1930, you have a piece of history in this home. It is part of the Historical Homes Registry and once was the main resting place for all the miners heading to and from the Gold Mines of Julian seeking and collecting their fortunes. It still is the greatest place to come for refreshment and exploration. From almost any point on the property, you feel as if you could reach out and touch the lake, which is just across the road. Facing one direction, you have a full view of Lake Cuyamaca. A stroll out the back door leads you to views all the way to the Ocean. It doesn’t get any better than this. There is a meditational pull to the property, making it so refreshing to stay and very hard to leave. But don’t worry – we’ll welcome you back for your next stay with open arms. The mountains of Julian and Lake Cuyamaca offer great mountain energy for healing, rejuvenating or just taking a break from city life. This house holds magic inside and out.
The downstairs offers so many possibilities. There is a full kitchen fully stocked with all you need to cook, bake and enjoy preparing meals. There is a large, homey family space which can be used for group meals, sitting and reading, playing games or just enjoying each other’s company, while curled up in front of the wood burning fireplace. There are two bedrooms also located on the first floor. Each has queen sized beds, breathtaking views from picture windows and shares a full bathroom. Before heading upstairs or down, don’t miss the unbelievable sunroom that is surrounded with large windows which point out directly towards the Lake. Although the entire house is spectacular, this room alone makes it the must stay home in Julian and the Lake Cuyamaca area. There is nothing quite as amazing as sitting in the large arm chairs with a cup of coffee, wine, tea or whatever you choose and watching the sun dance on the water. This room even boasts an opening sleeper couch which all guests will be vying to capture as their own.
Upstairs leads to even more space and delights. There are two more bedrooms for additional guests. Each room has two twin beds, and one of the two rooms also has a toddler bed for the smaller guest. There is a bathroom upstairs which hosts a tiny footed bathtub. One room has a little deck just the right size for a place to watch from the ocean to the lake.
Downstairs from the main floor are two more bedrooms. The first bedroom has two more twin beds and large windows. Each guest can gaze through the window from his or her bed and watch the grass blow and the deer and turkey stroll across the property. There is a separate bathroom for these guests as well. Next to that room is the grand master suite – a room to behold. The huge open beamed ceiling room has a magnificent wood burning fireplace, an ensuite, and large picture windows drawing you out to a spectacular sitting patio with a running fountain. Old world charm at its best, this sitting area is shaded by mountain greenery and grape vines. The views go on and on. The lake calls to you with its whispered melodic voice. It is nothing less that magical.
This wonderful rock home backs up to State Park property allowing for walks, hikes, meditation and bird watching. The sounds, views and smells of the country surround and entice you to venture out into a great exploration of Julian's mountain wilderness. The property connects to horseback riding trails; a short ride will bring you to bike trails, extensive hiking trails and any number of combinations. Perfect for families, group retreats, corporate getaways, or just a little time with your loved ones. There is a large propane grill inviting all to gather round and picnic, feast, or entertain. The property includes an acre of grassy fields and places to come together as a large group to celebrate anniversaries, wedded bliss, or religious retreats. Most bedrooms and living rooms have huge windows for enjoyment of the views and mountain air at any time of day or night. Walk across the road and you are to the Lake. Lake Cuyamaca has a wonderful lakefront restaurant, walking trails, boat rental and fishing. An 8 mile drive brings you to the historic town of Julian to enjoy shops, gold mines, restaurants and the old western town charm. Please note that there is no WIFI. There is television. You will want for nothing more than to enjoy the country while planning how soon you can come back. We’ll be waiting for you. What an amazing getaway to complete privacy and nature.

The house location was great; the view of the lake and the stars at night were amazing. Trips to the local Wolf Center and Julian Station for cider/wine tasting are recommended. The house layout was a little funky, but it worked well for my group. Loved that there was no WiFi (therefore limited remote work access!).
The window screens need tending as having the windows open introduced flies. There was a miscommunication regarding the house gate lock code (apparently the owner changed it without informing the property manager) which proved to be inconvenient for a few hours after arrival until remedied.
Overall the house worked great for our escapist long weekend and there were plenty of activities to keep us busy and engaged with nature.
Great Family Getaway
Our family (14 of us) enjoyed our stay. The house was very comfortable, well furnished for sleeping, and the kitchen had everything we needed and more. We enjoyed the evening visits from the deer and turkeys. Plenty of room for the boys to run and roam. Having the lake nearby is a added bonus. Owner was very accommodating.
Great Historic Home!
The Views of the Lake and valley is breath taking! The home has a quirky historic cabin feel to it; you can feel the history. We loved stoking the fire and gathering around the wood burning fire place! And the homeowner is extremely friendly, accommodating, and responsive. I would definitely recommend this home, we look forward to going back again in the future.
18 people shared 2 bathrooms due to both upstair shower is leaking and downstair shower isn't work.
Environment is natural, owner seems doesn't like to spend any penny to enhance this facility.
Water has heavy rusty smell.
No wifi and phone connection, we couldn't get hold with manager for fixing shower problems.
Electronic power jumps couple times a day all because this property is too old (1930s).
I respectfully ask all who read this review please be aware of the following:
1. This guest caused over $6,000 worth of damage maliciously. So this review is retributive.
2. Please review the wonderful reviews for this historic home - note those stays were immediately prior to this guest.
3. This home is a historic home, which I let everyone know upon booking or prior to booking. EVERYTHING in this home works.
4. The story of the water issue is false. There was extensive water damage in the house that bordered on criminal. The claim was that the shower heads did not work. How then did they flood the entire upstairs and destroy sthe entire ceiling.
I am so sorry that guests that lose their deposits feel this is the way to handle it. Please always feel free to tour our home prioer to your booking or stay. The house is incredible and I am your personal concierge available 24hrs a day to assist if there ever is a need or question. Hope to see you all soon.
Nice and Beautiful.
We had a nice stay . The place has a nice master bedroom with a fireplace.Other bedrooms were nice too. The living room is large and cozy. The outside view is beautiful. The only thing that we missed was the Wifi, but we had our phones.
We had Direct TV and a phone line. We enjoyed our stay.
Thank you for your wonderful visit and I hope you come back and visit again. I am continually working to find internet that works at the retreat, but we are rural. I am so thrilled my suggestion to use your phones for internet was successful! Plus it gives you a chance to come out and play with the deer, right?
Wonderful family vacation get away house in the Julian area with an amazing view of Lake Cuyamaca.
Our family loved our stay here, and found the home to be full of everything we needed. We cooked Thanksgiving dinner here and the kitchen was complete and we loved that the dining table was big enough for all of us, 7 adults and 4 kids. The outdoor space was nice for walking and viewing the many deer and birds that came by. We loved the character of the older historic home as well as the large rustic fireplace. The kitchen is large and there is plenty of family space. We appreciated the games and toys provided and loved that the seasonal decor was provided too. We will return again and do recommend this vacation home to anyone wanting great family time in nature.
Thank you so much for your kind review. I love this retreat so much, so it makes me happy when I hear others enjoyed it so much! Please please please come back and visit again!
