About the property

Amazing Historic Home on the Lake's Edge with 6 bedrooms and outstanding views.

Leave the city behind and dive into the back country life. Nothing compares to this magnificent home for a getaway. Built in 1930, you have a piece of history in this home. It is part of the Historical Homes Registry and once was the main resting place for all the miners heading to and from the Gold Mines of Julian seeking and collecting their fortunes. It still is the greatest place to come for refreshment and exploration. From almost any point on the property, you feel as if you could reach out and touch the lake, which is just across the road. Facing one direction, you have a full view of Lake Cuyamaca. A stroll out the back door leads you to views all the way to the Ocean. It doesn’t get any better than this. There is a meditational pull to the property, making it so refreshing to stay and very hard to leave. But don’t worry – we’ll welcome you back for your next stay with open arms. The mountains of Julian and Lake Cuyamaca offer great mountain energy for healing, rejuvenating or just taking a break from city life. This house holds magic inside and out.

The downstairs offers so many possibilities. There is a full kitchen fully stocked with all you need to cook, bake and enjoy preparing meals. There is a large, homey family space which can be used for group meals, sitting and reading, playing games or just enjoying each other’s company, while curled up in front of the wood burning fireplace. There are two bedrooms also located on the first floor. Each has queen sized beds, breathtaking views from picture windows and shares a full bathroom. Before heading upstairs or down, don’t miss the unbelievable sunroom that is surrounded with large windows which point out directly towards the Lake. Although the entire house is spectacular, this room alone makes it the must stay home in Julian and the Lake Cuyamaca area. There is nothing quite as amazing as sitting in the large arm chairs with a cup of coffee, wine, tea or whatever you choose and watching the sun dance on the water. This room even boasts an opening sleeper couch which all guests will be vying to capture as their own.

Upstairs leads to even more space and delights. There are two more bedrooms for additional guests. Each room has two twin beds, and one of the two rooms also has a toddler bed for the smaller guest. There is a bathroom upstairs which hosts a tiny footed bathtub. One room has a little deck just the right size for a place to watch from the ocean to the lake.

Downstairs from the main floor are two more bedrooms. The first bedroom has two more twin beds and large windows. Each guest can gaze through the window from his or her bed and watch the grass blow and the deer and turkey stroll across the property. There is a separate bathroom for these guests as well. Next to that room is the grand master suite – a room to behold. The huge open beamed ceiling room has a magnificent wood burning fireplace, an ensuite, and large picture windows drawing you out to a spectacular sitting patio with a running fountain. Old world charm at its best, this sitting area is shaded by mountain greenery and grape vines. The views go on and on. The lake calls to you with its whispered melodic voice. It is nothing less that magical.

This wonderful rock home backs up to State Park property allowing for walks, hikes, meditation and bird watching. The sounds, views and smells of the country surround and entice you to venture out into a great exploration of Julian's mountain wilderness. The property connects to horseback riding trails; a short ride will bring you to bike trails, extensive hiking trails and any number of combinations. Perfect for families, group retreats, corporate getaways, or just a little time with your loved ones. There is a large propane grill inviting all to gather round and picnic, feast, or entertain. The property includes an acre of grassy fields and places to come together as a large group to celebrate anniversaries, wedded bliss, or religious retreats. Most bedrooms and living rooms have huge windows for enjoyment of the views and mountain air at any time of day or night. Walk across the road and you are to the Lake. Lake Cuyamaca has a wonderful lakefront restaurant, walking trails, boat rental and fishing. An 8 mile drive brings you to the historic town of Julian to enjoy shops, gold mines, restaurants and the old western town charm. Please note that there is no WIFI. There is television. You will want for nothing more than to enjoy the country while planning how soon you can come back. We’ll be waiting for you. What an amazing getaway to complete privacy and nature.

Wonderful family vacation get away house in the Julian area with an amazing view of Lake Cuyamaca.

  • 5 of 5

Our family loved our stay here, and found the home to be full of everything we needed. We cooked Thanksgiving dinner here and the kitchen was complete and we loved that the dining table was big enough for all of us, 7 adults and 4 kids. The outdoor space was nice for walking and viewing the many deer and birds that came by. We loved the character of the older historic home as well as the large rustic fireplace. The kitchen is large and there is plenty of family space. We appreciated the games and toys provided and loved that the seasonal decor was provided too. We will return again and do recommend this vacation home to anyone wanting great family time in nature.

Autumn getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Our family's stay at the Rock House was beyond amazing! There were 16 of us which included grandparents to grandchildren and we all agree this was the best family vacation we have had. The house is beautiful and spacious with amazing property to explore and seek adventure. The beautiful sunrise welcomed us each morning and the equally as astounding sunset closed out the day. There was something for everyone to enjoy and one of the highlights was watching the deer family arrive each morning. The grandkids played and explored all day and my 6 year old grandson caught his first fish. We will definitely plan another family reunion at the Rock House next year. The Hogan family

Close close close to San Diego with a very get away 🚶 Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We just spent 3 nights celebrating Canadian Thanksgiving in a really Great Getaway. Sleeping for 12 was perfect with enough bathrooms 4! We especially ❤️ the sunroom-with recliners for reading and looking out the windows with fantastic view of the lake. At dusk we saw Mule Deer family of 8, prancing right past us!!!!! We fixed a full on

Turkey dinner with all the trimmings and with two tables we were all able to eat together ! Beds very comfortable which is most important. Although listed with no TV we were pleased to find one. Our granchildren loved fishing down by the lake and day two on a pontoon. Oh ! games galoor were available too. Sooooo Yes! We recommend you

take advantage of this retreat . Barbara is a great hostess who wants to make sure everything works out for your stay. Thanks again!

great property

  • 4 of 5

We needed a home large enough to accommodate 14 adults and 4 young kids. The kids all stayed in the sun room where there were plenty of beds for them and their parents were close by in 2 bedrooms. There were 3 levels with plenty of bedrooms for everyone else. It was about a mile from the lake which we walked to with our dogs. We went fishing and boating which was so much fun. We picked apples at an Apple orchard. We used the Barbecue at the property and enjoyed that. Other than a coffee pot that was broken, there were plenty of dishes and silverware to use. Julian is a cute town and the property turned out to be very nice.

Large retreat, beautiful and unique!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay out at Lake Cuyamaca in this beautiful place. Perfect for us and some close family to stay in for the weekend during our wedding. Large enough to accomadate us all comfortably with a beautiful lake view. The kids loved the upstairs room with the child size restroom, toys and games. Nice, spacious kitchen made family meals cooking/cleaning up easier. So many antique pieces we all enjoyed seeing. We would definitely love to stay here again! Thank you Barbara!
