About the property

3 Bedroom, 2 Bathroom, Historic Residence Surrounded By Rainforest, Views!

This Historic Residence was built in 1907. It is a two-story solid redwood house, (both exterior and all interior walls are redwood plank--not reproducible today) with a unique craftsman style design. It sits on a steeply sloped lot, has a cruciform design plan, and a hipped roof. The interior features a brick fireplace, board and batten walls and ceilings, completely updated kitchen, solid teak floors, and bracketed window sills with woodwork detail not seen in modern houses. This house has been perfectly restored. The kitchen has been completely redesigned with new appliances this year and gas cooktop island looking out on Diamond Head.

The Historic Residence is an officially recognized historic home, and was a summer get away from the heat at sea level in days before air conditioning. It remains on a near 3 acre, wooded lot in a conservation district surrounded by well maintained hiking trails. The house is significant as an early example of a craftsman style residence in Hawaii and was the childhood home of a Honolulu heiress, who was an actress who appeared in “Magnum, P.I.” and the original “Hawaii Five-0” series. One of the owners was a prime minister for the Nation of Hawaii under the monarchy. The two-story home is called “with the soaring birds,” because it’s located so high up the mountain. The world-famous songbird, the "shama" can be heard every day. Native koa and ohio lehua trees abound. Views include the entire Manoa Valley, Diamond Head, Waikiki and Kahala. One can watch both sunrise and sunset over the ocean from within the house.
