Beautiful Bainbridge Island provides a perfect balance of indoor and outdoor activities from parks, beaches and kayaking to museums, galleries and shopping. What are you up for?
Fay Bainbridge Park is the closest park to the house. It offers a quarter mile of beach access dotted with driftwood, a playground, picnic shelters and grills, all with a 180 degree view of the sound, Seattle and Mount Rainier. Pack a picnic and spend the afternoon or evening.
Winslow Way – the island’s “Main Street” - is 10 minutes away. Bainbridge Island is known for its thriving art scene and Winslow Way is dotted with galleries, antique shops and our own art museum. Additionally, you will find dozens of local businesses which supply varied and unique shopping and dining opportunities. If you are looking for a bit more of an adventure, you can rent kayaks, paddle boats and bicycles in Winslow. Or head to Waterfront Park and take in the view of Eagle Harbor or take a walk on the downtown “Walkabout” trail. On Saturdays Spring through Fall, stop by the Farmers’ Market in the Town Square and check out locally grown and produced food, home and craft items.
If you are hungry we have dozens of food options: Mexican and southwest, Italian, Indian, Thai, a pub (21 and over only), a family friendly sports bar, French inspired Northwest cuisine, a charcuterie/deli, diners, sandwich and sub shops, crepe places, Vietnamese, sushi, Teriyaki, pizza, a candy store, local bakeries, coffee shops, gelato, frozen yogurt and our own Mora iced creamery.
Looking for family friendly activities? Check out KidiMu in Winslow, right near the art museum. KidiMu is great for young children with many fun (and, shh, educational) hands-on activities. Head out to Battle Point Park for some time at the KidsUp! playground, designed by the children of the island and constructed by the community. Battle Point also has a duck and fishing pond and a great walking/bike path surrounding the park and its soccer and baseball fields.
Need some adult only time? Try the Harbour Public House (21 and older only) with its expansive deck with views of Eagle Harbor. Or head across the bridge on the north end to Clearwater Casino for fun and games, including live entertainment and shows.
A trip to Seattle is just a drive to Winslow where you can park your car at the ferry terminal and hop on the ferry for a journey to the city. The aquarium is right downtown and fun for the whole family. Or you can take a trip to Seattle Center and the Space Needle and the Pacific Science Center. And there is always Pike Place Market.
Looking for a quieter sightseeing trip? Drive off the north end of the island to historic Poulsbo, a quaint Scandinavian town with its own unique blend of shops and restaurants. Farther north is Kingston, another sweet little town on the peninsula.
Whatever you choose to do with your time on Bainbridge, you are sure to ease into “Island Time” where the scenery is beautiful, the people are friendly and you can’t help but feel relaxed.
