About the property

2/1 Victorian Home In the Historic District - Near Comal River & Schlitterbahn!

Exceptional value! Stay in this beautiful historic home. It is a luxurious and comfortable home that is conveniently located near The Comal River and Schlitterbahn in the heart of Historic Downtown New Braunfels.

Step back in time for a relaxing stay at this charming Victorian home. It was built in 1895 by one of the early German Settlers and is one of the oldest homes in New Braunfels. The house has been meticulously decorated with period antiques that are both beautiful and comfortable. You will love the tall ceilings, hardwood floors, stained glass and charming décor.

The house is in the heart of downtown, yet tucked away so that you have your own private secluded retreat. Sit on the front porch to watch the hummingbirds and other local wildlife. The front porch is off the master bedroom and living room. There are canopies of mature trees that shade the patios. In the backyard, there is a charcoal BBQ pit for grilling. There is plenty of room for you to store your coolers and tubes outside in one of the side yards. The washer and dryer are in a separate small room adjacent to the garage. Park your compact car in one of the 3 spots behind the garage on Tolle Street. Please park your SUV’s and oversized vehicles along the front of the house on Market Street. This is a City Mandate.

Enter the house through the back landing on the right into the kitchen. There is a programmed digital lock with a unique code for you during your stay. The keyless entry feature maximizes security and provides a convenient way for you and your guests to enter and exit the home without keeping up with keys!

The kitchen is equipped with everything you need - including pots and pans, dishes, utensils, glassware, baking dishes, toaster, blender, microwave, oven and stove.

The living area has a flat screen TV and stereo for your enjoyment. It has a comfortable sofa and 2 chairs for lounging.

The master bedroom has an old-fashioned wrought iron king size bed supplied with luxurious cotton linens and its own flat screen TV.

The guest bedroom has a queen size bed and is also furnished with luxurious cotton linens. You can step from the guest bedroom onto a small landing in the back of the house.

The dining room has a sleeping area to accommodate two guests.

The bathroom has one freestanding sink and an old-fashioned Claw foot tub with a shower.

This home is perfect for a small family with small children or young teenagers, a couples retreat, a girl’s getaway or anyone 55+ who want to enjoy New Braunfels and the surrounding area.

About Deborah Ball

We are both busy, hardworking professionals. We've lived in Houston and San Antonio and spent many weekends tubing on the Comal and Guadalupe Rivers. New Braunfels is one of our favorite Texas destinations.

Deborah Ball purchased this house in 2009

Why Deborah Ball chose Hill Country

We love the historic charm and character of the house that really makes you feel like you've stepped back in time. We knew it had to be our haus from the first time we walked into it. It is the location, location, location that is awesome! You can walk to the Comal River "Chute", downtown restaurants, shops, bars, and farmer's market. It is also an easy walk to Landa Park and the Wurstfest grounds. You can walk to Schlitterbahn. It's an easy drive to Gruene where you can hear live music, browse the shops, and sample Texas wines. There are lots of year around events like Wurstfest, Comal County Fair, live music, wine fests, etc. It's a hop, skip, and a jump to San Marcus (Best Outlet Mall in the US), San Antonio, and Austin.

What makes this house unique

We have done our best to make the "Little Haus" a peaceful retreat free from the worries of the office and the city. Until recently, we have kept it for our own personal use. We have enjoyed entertaining our friends and family almost every weekend for the past 6 years. Everyone who has ever visited just loves the "Little Haus." We hope that our guests feel the good vibes in our happy little place.

Great Weekend

  • 5 of 5

House was better than described. Spending a weekend in the oldest house in New Braunfels was a treat. The house has the charm you would expect (creaking hardware floors, slamming screen door etc) from a century old house, yet had modern day amenities (flat screen tv, wifi etc) to make the stay comfortable, enjoyable and memorable. With both downtown and the river a few steps away, park the car, put the keys away, relax and enjoy!!! We will be back...

'The Little Haus' was so welcoming!

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a wonderful min-vacation in New Braunsfels. The Little Haus was such a welcoming and comfortable place to stay. We felt right at home there. Everything we needed was available which made the short visit even nicer. Thank you for the hospitality!

Wunderful Stay

  • 5 of 5

From the moment that my family (4) walked through the gate we felt at ease. The unique fence surrounding this relaxing neighborhood cottage lets you know that you are in for something special. As you make your way from the driveway to the back door you pass the two sitting areas where the sun dances through the trees and the wind sweeps through the leaves. When we first walked up while carrying his little backpack and crunching his way up the pebble pathway to the door my two year old called out, "home". You truly will feel like you are coming home when you stay at the "Little Haus".

Inside the décor is what you would expect in a country house with German infusion. Meticulous detail has been spent in decorating and it makes you wish you were there antiquing for the items when purchased. If you had children you will be happy to know that there is a TV in every room and Wifi. The neighborhood is quiet and your sleep will be deep. I should add my stay also covered before and after Independence Day which is one of NB busiest holidays, and it was still quaint and safe.

The "Little Haus" is a neighborhood block stroll from Naeglins Bakery (2 min), Town Square (4 mins), Faust Pub (5 mins), Underground Pizza (8 mins), Tube Rentals and San Antonio St. Bridge (4 mins). Solms Park across bridge (10 mins), and Schlitterbahn (20 mins). Keep in mind that these walks were with a stroller, and they felt more like strolls than walks, very relaxing.

This was our first vacation rental and the dividend for not only the Little Haus but now other locations will open up the industry for us away from hotels from now on. YES, I would stay again at Little Haus. I reluctantly say that you should too only because you will now become my competition for when I want to rent it again. Darn you! But it is my desire that Deborah succeeds and that you and your family enjoy special memories as my family was able to. Enjoy.

This home is located in the Downtown New Braunfels Historic District. It is within walking distance to numerous pubs and restaurants. It is also an ideal location to walk to The Comal River and Schlitterbahn. It is .5 miles from "The Little Haus" to the "Tube Chute" at Prince Solms Park, .5 miles to the last public exit for floating The Comal River, and .5 miles to the entrance of Schlitterbahn. Either bring your own tubes or contact one of the local river outfitters to provide tubes and transportation.

Take a stroll downtown to have a strudel from Naegelin's, the oldest bakery in Texas. Buy a souvenir at Henne's, the oldest hardware store in Texas. Take a walking tour, a ghost tour or visit the Sophienburg Museum and learn about the history of The Early Settlers of New Braunfels. Listen to live music and entertainment at the Downtown Historic Phoenix "chili parlor" and saloon or The Brauntex Theater. Step into the many one-of-a-kind pubs or restaurants to relax and refuel.

Enjoy shopping for antiques, clothing and gifts. The Farmer's Market is every Saturday morning and features organic and local produce, specialty food items and gift booths.

Gruene (pronounced green) is on The National Registry as a historic destination. Gruene Hall is the oldest dance hall in Texas. Listen to live music nightly and see where music greats like Willie Nelson, George Strait and Lyle Lovett started out and still play today.

Visit nearby Landa Park to ride the miniature train, wade in the spring fed pool, hike Panther Canyon, have a picnic next to The Founder's Oak Tree that dates back to the 1700's, rent a paddleboat or listen to a free evening concert on the dance slab.

Take the scenic drive up River Road to Canyon Lake. Spend the day shopping at the San Marcos Outlet Mall. Go spelunking at Natural Bridge Caverns. Tour The Alamo, The River Walk, Sea World and Historic Mission Trails in San Antonio. Visit Austin's State Capitol and the main campus of The University of Texas. Austin's famous 6th Street has made it the "Live Music Capital of the World."

This is the ideal location to enjoy local attractions and explore The Texas Hill Country. The people are friendly and the beer is cold. Welcome to Texas!
