About John and Priscilla Brown

We first came to Hooper"s Island in 2004, loved it so much that we had a house built overlooking the bay on a little quiet lane. We are into nature, and this is a perfect and safe place to enjoy nature at its finest. Great adult getaway.

John and Priscilla Brown purchased this house in 2007

Why John and Priscilla Brown chose Hoopers Island

For the peaceful surroundings and lovely vistas. Starry nights and gorgeous sunsets! Quiet walks, beautiful bike rides, crabbing, fishing, boating, reading, bird watching or just sitting on the dock and enjoying an evening wine or morning coffee.

Simply close your eyes and listen to the sounds of the rippling water....

What makes this house unique

We fell in love with the island and designed our home to fit into the peaceful surroundings. There is so much history in the area.

Restful and Relaxing

  • 4 of 5

The "Best Kept Secret" house was very nice, in good repair and beautifully decorated. The screened-in porch was good for rocking and relaxing. Priscilla and John gave us lots of good information about things to do--we ate dinner at Old Salty's, and it was excellent. The homeowners quickly responded to questions. The aspect of the house we enjoyed the most was the pool table. We played several games over our 4-night stay. The only thing that disappointed us was the location: the house is not located directly on Chesapeake Bay. From the online description we thought it was. We still had a restful, enjoyable stay. Many thanks to Priscilla and John!

Owner's Response: We were so glad you enjoyed your stay at the house and all the island has to offer. I checked the map on the site and the pin location was shown correctly....across the little road from the bay. We do hope you had an opportunity to enjoy private dock on the riverside around the bend from the house. Thank you so much for leaving our house in stellar condition. You were great guests and are welcome back any time!

What a Wonderful Surprise!

  • 5 of 5

After our drive from Pennsylvania, what a pleasure it was to open the door and enter this beautifully decorated and immaculate home with an open floor plan, and tasteful furnishings. It is a lovely three bedroom, two bath home, near the water. My wife and I enjoyed doing some crabbing and fishing off of the home's private dock. We had some spectacular sunrise and sunset views over the water. It is far enough away from the hustle and bustle of larger towns to be a quiet retreat, while being just a 1/2 hour drive to nearby Cambridge, MD. My wife and I heartily recommend this lovely home to anyone looking for a place to rent in this area. It is well equipped, and the owners, Priscilla and John, were very friendly and accommodating. You'll love this home!

Wonderful place to relax and enjoy nature

  • 5 of 5

We loved the area and the house. Very comfortable accommodations and Priscilla was very responsive with all our questions. Hoopers Island is a gem, very quiet and peaceful and we enjoyed riding our bikes around the island. Blackwater Nature Preserve is just up the road a few miles with tons of places to kayak, ride bikes and bird watching. Definitely go to Old Salty's for dinner! We enjoyed sitting on the screened in porch in the evening watching the sun set and playing board games. Wonderful get-away, highly recommended!

Nice place.

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay. We had our 16-yr.-old grandson with us and he enjoyed learning the basics of playing pool when we were "home" in the evenings. We should have taken bug repellent the time we visited the dock. I'm used to the big mosquitoes on the Shore, but I guess these were what is called 'no-see-ums' because we certainly didn't see what was biting us. It was good to see all the ospreys. I believe they were close to endangerment at one time when I was growing up, but no longer.

The drive to and from Cambridge and points beyond was always interesting. Our favorite wildlife encounter was with a sika deer which posed for us, then pronked (like an antelope or alpaca) across the field towards a wild turkey. Saw a couple of bald eagles also. I would like to come here sometime when the waterfowl are migrating.

We went to Old Salty's for supper. They actually have great crabcakes. This coming from one who is very picky about them. These are as good as homemade.

Wonderful home!

  • 5 of 5

This gem made our stay on Hoopers Island fantastic! It was very well decorated and well equipped with everything we needed. This home made the reunion of our siblings very memorable. Priscilla answered any questions we had and left detailed instructions to help us. We had dinner at Old Salty's one night. It was a favorite! I highly recommend it!

Our New Favorite Place

  • 5 of 5

How lucky are we that we found this terrific island home!! Quiet and on the water is what we were looking for. This was our first rental through VRBO and we couldn't be happier. Priscilla was a great "host from afar"! She answered all of our questions, told us what to expect and suggested various things that would fit with our family - and she was right.

The house was clean, spacious for our family of 4, and we were pleasantly surprised with all the extras (laundry detergent, dryer sheets, cleaner, trash bags, paper towels) that we didn't need to bring from home.

We brought our little boat that we took out every day for fishing, crabbing and tubing. The neighbors were super friendly and very helpful is pointing us in the right direction for crabbing, public ramps, etc.

We tried Old Salty's as well as the general store (which really does carry everything) and were really happy with the food/service.

I sat on the dock for hours, in my chair reading a book, watching the sunset. It doesn't get much better than that.

My kids loved the pool table and we had pool tournaments every night - I don't think we even turned the TV on.

This was a last minute get away before the kids went back to school and it couldn't have been better. We look forward to getting away again here in the fall before the weather gets too cold!
