Peaceful lake view home
This home was so serene, it is nicely decorated, open, bright & airy. You get a beautiful view from the bedroom & deck. The home was immaculate when we arrived, the kitchen is stocked with everything you would need, the beds are comfortable, the lake is beautiful-crystal clear, the location is quiet & ideal. About a 5-10 min ride to local shops & cafes. We are hoping to make this a yearly trip. The owner Rita was prompt to answer any questions.

Charming property on beautiful lake
6 if us stayed in this charming house with a view of the water. The decor is inviting, the beds comfortable, and the lake is spectacular. Rita was wonderful about accommodating our late departure time and was quick to respond to any questions.
Beautiful house, pet friendly.
We had a wonderful time here. The only issue was the excessive heat (over 95 degrees) and no air conditioning. It was an unusual heat wave for this area. The house was easy to keep clean, even with two German Shepherds. The lake was nice and cold. Town is quaint and very friendly, good restaurants in the area. Portland is an hour away and went on three different tours - Trolley and Boat (dog friendly), Food Tour and Brew Bus tour. All were great!
lovely home; dishonest owner-- DO NOT RENT!
DO NOT RENT FROM THIS OWNER. After dozens of rentals through VRBO, I'm sorry that a negative experience has led me to write my first-ever review.
The house is lovely, but after we left the owner dishonestly claimed that we had caused damage to the property and left it in unacceptable condition. There were 6 adults in their 50s, 60s, and 70s staying in the house (no crazy young'uns!), all of whom concur that we absolutely did not dent the refrigerator door (how does one do that?), damage the grill cover, or leave the house filthy- all of which the owner used as a faudulent excuse to keep $350 of our deposit. (In full disclosure, yes, we did leave ice in the sink (it melts!); we did pick up trash from all over the yard after an animal got into the outdoor trash can and put it back in the can; and we did leave a flypaper in the kitchen, which we had bought to confront a horde of flies. We also complied fully with the contract which included a fee for a full house cleaning. $350 of our deposit was kept on top of the cleaning fee.)
After multiple attempts to communicate with the owner and discuss these issues, she has still refused to refund our money.
We also learned (during our time renting) that the owner had disagreements with neighbors which led them to plant a maple tree directly in the line of sight of the lake from the house's lovely porch, so there appears to be a history of failing to get along with folks.
Highland Lake is beautiful- find a different house to rent!
Unfortunately this is the first negative review and personal attack I have received since renting my home. I take care to make sure that when my guests arrive all is as I would like to find a rental property. I have been renting my home for over 20 years and this is the first time ever having a damage issue or any issue at all. In dealing with this I have tried to be as open, understanding and fair about claiming this damage.
My property Manager/Housekeeper who has been with me for many years reported noticeable damage. She sent photo's of the dented refrigerator door, melting ice cream, Ice and other debris left in the sink as well as noting grill cover was damaged beyond repair, fly strip left hanging near stove, flies come from food left out or doors being left open. She also reported that it took her twice her normal cleaning time to get the house back into its normal very clean state. She noted cleaning issues like food spilled into bottom of refrigerator, extra work to wash/sanitize trash cans after garbage not being bagged before putting in cans and heavier than normal wear and tear (dirt) in house.
No dishonest claim was submitted, the claim was backed up with photos. I address these issues with all involved (via website communication and text) and I investigate the issues that were reported to me. I personal went to the property to see damages to make sure there was no dishonest reporting or misunderstandings. I kept the all parties informed at all times.
With the guidance and investigation of HomeAway, which is there to protect both owners and renters, found no fault or dishonesty on my part and that the evidence of damage (pictures) was in fact non disputable.
I am sorry for all involved that we have had to deal with this unpleasant situation. However, I am very appreciative of the lovely comment about my home. For years many families have come and enjoyed the house, lake, neighbors and have left honest reviews about me and my home.
I've been very blessed to have wonderful long term relationships with many of my repeat renters and remain open and committed to making there time at my home as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.
Lovely house with excellent views.
The house was as described by the owner. It was spacious, clean and well equipped. All the beds were comfortable and everything worked.
We enjoyed using the canoe and the kayak a lot on the lake. We made s’mores round the fire pit and had several BBQs. The lake was clean and warm and we enjoyed exploring it.
Bridgton was charming and has a range of independent shops and eateries.
I would recommend this for a relaxing holiday in a comfortable house with lots of amenities. Rita was very helpful before our visit and answered all our queries fully.
Great set up for two families
We stayed for just one night after skiing at Shawnee for the day. The house was spotless, well set up and very comfortable. Plenty of room for 4 adults and 4 kids, will definitely return again and again!
Bridgton is centrally located near the base of the White Mountain Range in the south west part of Maine. It is approx. 35 miles west of Portand and 20 miles east of North Conway, NH on Rt 302. Visit Mount Washington, Story Land, Santa's Village, Attitash Alpine slides and the Outlet Shopping in North Conway, NH or Portlands coast and enjoy its many wonderful restaurants. Also the Fryeburg Fair in October! No need to leave Bridgton at all for it has plenty of things to do right in town. Enjoy a wonderful Cafe', indoor cinema, drive-in theatre, skiing and hiking at Shawnee Peak Mountain, nature trails, two ice arenas, Bridgton Country Club for golf, snowmobile trails, unique shopping, public beaches and boat launches. Everything is there for you to include a pharmacy, restaurants, library, fish market, butcher shop, book store, tackle shop, movie rental, canoe and kayak rentals and bicycle routes. Highland Lake offers swimming, boating, fishing, , cros country skiing and relaxation. It's a peaceful lake with little boat traffic. Not far away enjoy canoeing on the Saco River, sea plane rides in Naples or shows at the Deertrees Theratre.

Please don't allow pet's to do their outside business on beach or common area. As much as we may be pet lovers others can be afraid of or allergic to our pets.
