About Richard Rothfuss

I have always lived in the Finger Lakes region and find it to be one of the most beautifully scenic areas in the US. I taught in local schools for 34 years but come from a building construction background as well through my father. Much of the bungalow renovation was by my hand. Currently, I am one of the dealers and manager of Opera House Antiques in Hammondsport. I live in Dundee, a nearby village, with my wife Alice. However, my Hammondsport duties bring me to the village almost daily. It is a great small town.

Richard Rothfuss purchased this bungalow in 2014

Why Richard Rothfuss chose Keuka Lake

Our decision to buy in Hammondsport was based on many things: some of these being the charm of a small and quite unique village. Hammondsport offers several events through the course of the summer and fall which draw large numbers of people to the village, Also, the location of Hammondsport at the southern tip of glacially formed Keuka Lake provides an ideal location for lake and other recreational activities. The bungalow is in an area of town which teems with very similar homes all built around 1915. This is one of the larger in size at 1050 sq. ft. and it was "screaming out" for someone to give it the attention it deserved.

Lovely place in the quaint town of Hammondsport

  • 5 of 5

Richard was great, and the house was so lovely. The house was full of character, and all of the amenities were there, and most importantly, the home was very clean. I will return.

"The Place Is Soooooo Adorable"

  • 5 of 5

We were up from NJ for a long weekend of wine tasting around the Lakes and wanted to stay in Hammmondsport instead of Watkins Glen this time. The Curtis Bungalow fit the bill perfectly. Richard met us at check in to make sure we didn’t need anything, which was nice. The place is cozy and roomy all at the same time - my wife couldn’t stop saying how much she loved the way it was laid out. Downstairs seating area was more than big enough for the two of us and left plenty of walking space even as we brought in cases of wine to set on the floor. The kitchen is very well laid out and would be easy to work in with a couple people if you’re planning on cooking instead of eating out. Two spacious bathrooms with showers is nice to have if you need to get a family out in a hurry, and were kept very clean. Bedrooms are big enough that you’re not tripping over things in the middle of the night and more than comfortable. The screened in porch was wonderful for our morning coffee as the early fall weather was perfect.

It was nice to be able to park on the property instead of the street. The location of the driveway behind the house made loading and unloading from there impractical, but while there’s no parking directly in front of the house we could park across the narrow street or just around the corner on the side of the house and load/unload from there with ease.

We generally like to check out different places when we travel, but I have a feeling we’ll be looking to book Richard’s place again when we visit next year. Highly recommended.

The house is very nice...clean, comfortable, very well cared for. The town is fabulous and easily within walking distance. Keuka Lake is always magical. I found Richard to be very friendly and helpful. This is a real winner.

Thanks to Richard once again for providing everything we could need on our weekend visit to Keuka Lake. Walking distance of town, plenty of stuff in kitchen, very clean, and Richard is very responsive. Highly recommend.

Located in the heart of the Finger Lakes with a myriad of wineries and breweries nearby. Highly scenic area with many large and small lakes and recreational opportunities in the area. Antiquing locally is usually very rewarding with multiple ships nearby.
