About Richard Rothfuss
I have always lived in the Finger Lakes region and find it to be one of the most beautifully scenic areas in the US. I taught in local schools for 34 years but come from a building construction background as well through my father. Much of the bungalow renovation was by my hand. Currently, I am one of the dealers and manager of Opera House Antiques in Hammondsport. I live in Dundee, a nearby village, with my wife Alice. However, my Hammondsport duties bring me to the village almost daily. It is a great small town.
Richard Rothfuss purchased this Bungalow in 2014
Why Richard Rothfuss chose Town of Urbana
Our decision to buy in Hammondsport was based on many things: some of these being the charm of a small and quite unique village. Hammondsport offers several events through the course of the summer and fall which draw large numbers of people to the village, Also, the location of Hammondsport at the southern tip of glacially formed Keuka Lake provides an ideal location for lake and other recreational activities. The bungalow is in an area of town which teems with very similar homes all built around 1915. This is one of the larger in size at 1050 sq. ft. and it was "screaming out" for someone to give it the attention it deserved.

Hammondsport Get Away
We stayed at the Curtiss Bungalow with another couple for two nights just to get away for a few days and break the winter blues. Also, our daughter attends Keuka College so it was a great opportunity to see her and her friends. The college is only 1/2 hour away. The owner, Richard, was very helpful and responsive to all of our needs and questions. He was there to meet us when we checked in and had the driveway and sidewalk shoveled for us since there was a wet, heavy snow fall the day we arrived. The house was perfect for two couples and had plenty of room for when the college kids showed up for dinner and games. It was very clean and had everything that we needed. The beds were very comfortable and the house was adequately supplied with plenty of clean towels. We decided we really should have stayed one more day to finish all the food we brought, beer we bought and the puzzle that we started while we were there! We found a flyer in the kitchen on the "Hammondsport Historical Trail" so we used that as a guide for a quick 1 1/4 mile run one morning. It was a nice trail and an enjoyable little run around the village. There were cute shops and a great brewery (Brewery of Broken Dreams) right down the street as well as lots of other breweries and wineries around Keuka Lake. We also drove over to Seneca Lake and the trip there was very easy. We would definitely stay there again.
Clean, comfortable cozy bungalow in Hammondsport.
Clean, comfortable & cozy. Close to everything we like in the Finger Lakes
It was really good
It was nice quite and really good
Just back from a 5-night stay. The bungalow was utterly spotless, super comfortable and very convenient. Lovely renovation with just enough antiques to lend character while keeping things simple, practical and uncluttered. Clearly, a lot of thought and care have gone into the planning of this space. Kitchen was well equipped, and everything throughout was well maintained and in good working order. Hammondsport is a charming town, and we walked to the center for dinner most nights. Parking next to garage was just fine for us. Although we never got to meet, Richard was responsive and easy to reach, and he left clear, detailed instructions—an excellent host.
The property was very clean. We brought so much stuff just to find it was all there already. Close walk to restaurants. Quiet neighborhood. Richard stop by as we were loading out to make sure our visit was a good one. Very nice guy. Will definitely book again!!
Well cared for and well equipped
Our brief stay at the Curtiss Bungalow met our needs. The house was clean, well furnished. Compared to other stays we have had, the house was well equipped: pots and pans in decent shape, an array of kitchen utensils, plenty of clean fluffy towels, and appliances in good working order. We even enjoyed doing a fall themed puzzle on the kitchen table. We had no difficulty accessing the house, and Richard provided all of the needed information in a timely manner. Would recommend to others staying in the area.
Located in the heart of the Finger Lakes with a myriad of wineries and breweries nearby. Highly scenic area with many large and small lakes and recreational opportunities in the area. Antiquing locally is usually very rewarding with multiple ships nearby.
