Heron Hollow is a 95 acre resort that features a myriad of outdoor leisure, hiking, fishing and limited hunting experiences as well as a place where you can rest your weary bones, watch the sunset or retire in the comfort of a "TRANE" air conditioned cabin complete with a 12' x 16' deck with a HOT TUB, covered activity shed and outdoor dining with views of the magnificent surroundings and night sky! It’s a perfect place to take the family to escape the pressures of city life any time of the year. Solitude best describes the setting in the northernmost corner of Coryell County, Texas, about a four hour drive from downtown Houston, two hours from Dallas-Fort Worth or Austin and just fifty minutes from Temple or Waco. The cabin overlooks a spring fed stream in a valley bordered by limestone cliffs and small caves where arrowheads and scraps of Indian pottery can still be found. The stream has been dammed to create a pond that extends several hundred yards back to a low level crossing and a natural swimming hole with a ladder to a rock overhang and pergola with picnic table that doubles as a hunting during hunting seasons. Hiking and hunting trails traverse the property with several leading to tree stands, hunting blinds and deer feeders all of which are described in the DETAILED VIDEO TOUR, https://youtu.be/ihd6_TBskhI, and located on your personal copy of an aerial map available to you by email.

ALL OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES ARE DONE AT YOUR OWN RISK OVER MOSTLY NATURAL BUT ROUGH TERRAIN! Suitable outerwear should always be worn!

About Winston C Heron

I purchased this 95 acres with the thought of sharing a real jewel with my wife, Jane, friends and family. In order for them to enjoy it properly, I had to have a decent place for them to stay and take advantage of the beautiful surroundings. So, become friends of the family and visit! Visit once and you'll return often!

Winston C Heron purchased this cabin in 2002

Why Winston C Heron chose Clifton

Enjoy the recently added 12' x 16' wood deck with a 4 adult + 3 child = 7 person hot tub filled at guests' request with COOL FRESH WATER when otherwise heated to 90 degrees. Temperature can be adjusted to accommodate individual preference depending on the weather. The shed area adjoining the main cabin can be used as a SHADED activity area protecting you and your children from summer sun. Outdoor games include washer toss, bean bag toss, child's golf ball "ladder toss", baseball, child's archery and a couple of water toys. A few indoor games and a bookshelf of many educational and children's books are provided for when the weather outside becomes unbearable!

What makes this cabin unique

The main focus of this property is on the outdoors any time of the day from bird watching to stargazing and even enjoying the sound of rain on a metal roof during an occasional downpour. Remember, if you don't like the weather in Texas, wait 30 minutes or so and it will change!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We did have a good time. Even my 16 and 18 year old girls enjoyed it. We saw lots of wildlife. Missed a couple of does (wife shot at her first deer with a crossbow). I chased a buck around in the field next to the pond/creek early on morning...he won. Saw some hogs. I had a 3D target of a hog set up in the front yard by the house for target practice. Apparently it doubled as a decoy because my daughter saw three hogs in the yard next to it one morning. It was a good time!

Great place for a family weekend getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Heron Hollow was more than my family and I could have expected. I loved fishing in the pond while the kids swam in the swimming hole. There was plenty of land to explore. There was firewood ready for us to make a fire each night. My family enjoyed the games that were there to play. My son left his BB gun and Mr. Heron went out of his way to send it to us. We will be staying here again without a doubt. If you are in the Waco area and need a place to stay this is it. Thanks for everything.

Beyond Your Expectations

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at Heron Hollow. The house is clean and cute and the beds were comfortable. The property is fantastic. The pictures do not do it justice. My son really enjoyed fishing (we did, too). Winston, the owner, is extremely nice and helpful. Everything you would expect from someone who shares a first name with one of the greatest men in history. I recommend getting a hamburger from the Horny Toad in Cranfill's Gap. Make sure you get it on the "toad bun." It is so good we may drive an hour and a half from home just to get one. Seriously, it's that good. We had the best weekend!

Thank you, Winston. We will be back!

Perfect place for exploration, rest and relaxation!!

  • 5 of 5

We are so happy that we found Heron Hollow!! We had an amazing time!! The views all around are spectacular!! The pictures don't do it justice! We loved the creek, pond and waterfall. It was too cold to swim on our visit. There are some spots along the creek that are so beautiful, you could just sit and look at them for hours. We crossed the pipe bridge to check out the cave shelters. They were so neatl!! We named some rock formations "the bunk beds" because that's what they looked like they could once have served as. We enjoyed some bird watching and photography in the back porch tree. We only saw one small rat snake in the woods and it did not try to bother us. The California King was so comfortable! The games and books were also nice touches to the house. We could not get real good cell service, so no Internet for us. But, we had the Blu-ray player, the hot tub and this gorgeous property. So, we had all we needed and it was so nice to unplug!! We would love to come back! Thanks again for everything and the great communication!!

Everything that was promised was delivered!

  • 5 of 5

Springtime was in the air and the bluebonnets were starting to bloom! The hot tub was delightful and the furnishings were very comfortable and clean. The indoor and outdoor cooking facilities were more than adequate for providing any kind of meal one would wish to cook! We'll definitely be back for another visit in the near future.
