Historic Packwood, WA, is considered the dream of recreational enthusiasts, and White Pass ski area (17 miles beyond Packwood) has 1,510 vertical feet, ski lifts, great family skiing/ snowboard programs, terrain for all ages, and all in stunningly beautiful surroundings. They also offer lessons and rentals for classical cross-country, skating, or snowshoeing.
In December 2010, White Pass re-opened following a $9 million expansion project that opens 767 acres to riding, two new chairlifts, 13 new trails and a new day lodge. 'Paradise Basin's opening is the biggest new thing in years for Cascade skiers and snowboarders . . . turning White Pass into a midsize Northwest ski area . . . Even though its ski terrain has doubled, White Pass retains the feeling of a small resort.'

We love the mountains, and Packwood is very like Switzerland, only the mountains are smaller and farther apart. It is in the center of Gifford Pinchot Nat'l Forest, 7 miles from the southern entrance to Mt. Rainier Nat'l Park, and surround by Tatoosh, William O Douglass, and Goat Rocks Wilderness areas. There is a constant flow of wildlife including: elk, coyotes, raccoon, fox, black bear, bald eagles, beaver and more, and year round recreational activities.
We spent every weekend for almost a year in Hall Creek Cabin while we built the Rainier View Lodge. We really made it our home away from home. I enjoyed the hot tub under a star studded sky, the song of Hall Creek, wood smoke on the wind and the plethora of passing elk . . . what a combination! It's a great place to dream and build!
Erica: What a snug home away from home! We looked forward to coming back from skiing and settling in for games, reading and movies. The queen bed is the most comfortable one ever! Thank you for the well-stocked kitchen. My daughter and I enjoyed preparing our own meals. She would love to return with friends and utilize the cute spaces upstairs too! Thanks for sharing your wonderful retreat with us!
Daughter, Jordan: This is the cutest place ever! The upper bedrooms are just the place...
We had the whole house to ourselves. All the amenities were there for us,
eventhough we did not use them all. The house was clean, warm and quiet. My wife especially liked the comfortable mattres. What better place to take a little nap, just because I wanted to. A great place for a group to have fun, enjoy the fellowship and the short walks or long ones the scenic routes or the coffee shops. One thing we missed however; this time around, we were not visited by some "Bugling Elk". Our hosts, well, they were top in friendliness and helpfulness. We have been there 3 different times and will be back again.
We all enjoyed our stay in the Alpine Bungalow. Marilly was very responsive in answering questions prior to booking and providing directions and instructions prior to the visit. The one bathroom worked just fine for the four of us. The location in Packwood was ideal and close to Mt. Rainier which was our goal for lots of hiking. It was great to be able to come back to an air conditioned, clean bungalow that had everything we needed. When we arrived the a/c was on and the unit was cool. The kitchen met all of our needs for breakfast and dinner, DVD's were extensive and internet was excellent. The area was very quiet and peaceful. The washer and dryer was great and full size. We did not use the hot tub during the stay, but it looked very inviting and was clean. We stayed for 3 nights, but wish we could have stayed longer. Look forward to another visit to Mt. Rainier in the future and the Alpine Bungalow is on my list to come back to. Thank you Marilly!!
This cabin is provided with everything for a very relaxing stay here. Beautiful hot tub, peaceful atmosphere, and view of Mr. Rainier are hard to beat! Excellent communication in the reservation process was thorough and easy. We will reserve again!
This was a great location for our visit to Mt. Rainier National Park. The property was as advertised. We enjoyed the elk grazing in the yard!
Convenient to south entrance of Mt Ranier. Close to Packwood, yet very quiet and secluded. It was as advertised. Hot tub was wonderful after hiking. Owner very timely with responses. Would love to stay there again.
This property anchored our stay in the Packwood area as our daughter, son in law, 3 year old grandchild and we explored the hiking venues around Mt. Rainier and Mt. St. Helens area. We used the kitchen extensively and found all that we needed to prepare meals. Sleeping areas were more than adequate and provided good rest after a vigorous day out of doors. The property is located just outside Packwood so we were only a few minutes away from the visitor center (wonderful information there. Talk to Dean! He is a great source for local info), groceries and most any basic needs. The property is in an excellent location that puts it in the center of hundreds of beautiful hikes. We enjoyed our stay at Bugling Elk tremendously. I would stay there again without hesitation.
