About Marilly Morton
Fred, as a teacher, is a life time learner. His passion is family, reading and sports. Marilly has a passion for family, birds, photography and traveling, visiting Nicaragua, The Netherlands, Germany & Italy. We both visited Hawaii, Alaska, Mexico, Switzerland, Aruba, Vancouver Island & Victoria BC, and Fred managed a sailing trip to Belize with our oldest son. To keep the international flavor in our home, we hosted exchange students including: two German, two Japanese, two Koreans, and one Colombian. Besides our four vacation rentals, we own 2 Subway stores (in Portland, OR).
Marilly Morton purchased this House in 2006
Why Marilly Morton chose Packwood
We love the mountains, and Packwood is very like Switzerland, only the mountains are smaller and farther apart. It is in the center of Gifford Pinchot Nat'l Forest, 7 miles from the southern entrance to Mt. Rainier Nat'l Park, and surround by Tatoosh, William O Douglass, and Goat Rocks Wilderness areas. There is a constant flow of wildlife including: elk, coyotes, raccoon, fox, black bear, bald eagles, beaver and more, and year round recreational activities.
What makes this House unique
We spent every weekend for almost a year in Hall Creek Cabin while we built the Rainier View Lodge. We really made it our home away from home. I enjoyed the hot tub under a star studded sky, the song of Hall Creek, wood smoke on the wind and the plethora of passing elk . . . what a combination! It's a great place to dream and build!

A comfortable quite escape near Mount Rainier
This monthly rental was everything we needed. We were close enough to Mount Rainier to enjoy the park (even a sunrise at Tipsoo Lake). Packwood has a little grocery store that kept us well stocked up. Quite and comfortable. The internet was good and the kitchen had more utensils and dishes than we needed. Even when all the houses were occupied in the area it was still peaceful. It was as advertised. We did not use the hottub. The A/C worked even when it was over 90 outside. We did have to let a few geckos out (or maybe the same one kept coming inside).
Dear AD, We appreciate the time you took to write this review, thank you! It was a pleasure hosting you and we wish you well in your continuing travels!! Packwood is a delightful hamlet located inside Gifford Pinchot National Forest with about 450-500 year-round residents. Our immediate neighborhood is a cluster of 5 houses, all short-term vacation rentals except Bugling Elk Bungalow which is a long-term VR set back into or flanked by woods, Hall Creek and a sprinkle of those year-round, human residents (at present 4) and includes an even larger variety of flora and fauna, not the least of which is a local herd of elk, deer, fox and flying friends like bats, owls, bald eagles and Pileated woodpeckers, just to name a few. The "Gecko" is a new addition to that list, and I'm guessing was actually a salamander or newt. Regardless, I'm glad you "showed him the door."
Packwood elks lakes and mnts
The cabin and location is great. Really comfy beds and nice kitchen. Everything you need really.
Dear FM, Good luck on the relocation and new job. It was a pleasure hosting you! Marilly
A great and wonderful place to stay.
We had the whole house to ourselves. All the amenities were there for us,
eventhough we did not use them all. The house was clean, warm and quiet. My wife especially liked the comfortable mattres. What better place to take a little nap, just because I wanted to. A great place for a group to have fun, enjoy the fellowship and the short walks or long ones the scenic routes or the coffee shops. One thing we missed however; this time around, we were not visited by some "Bugling Elk". Our hosts, well, they were top in friendliness and helpfulness. We have been there 3 different times and will be back again.
We all enjoyed our stay in the Alpine Bungalow. Marilly was very responsive in answering questions prior to booking and providing directions and instructions prior to the visit. The one bathroom worked just fine for the four of us. The location in Packwood was ideal and close to Mt. Rainier which was our goal for lots of hiking. It was great to be able to come back to an air conditioned, clean bungalow that had everything we needed. When we arrived the a/c was on and the unit was cool. The kitchen met all of our needs for breakfast and dinner, DVD's were extensive and internet was excellent. The area was very quiet and peaceful. The washer and dryer was great and full size. We did not use the hot tub during the stay, but it looked very inviting and was clean. We stayed for 3 nights, but wish we could have stayed longer. Look forward to another visit to Mt. Rainier in the future and the Alpine Bungalow is on my list to come back to. Thank you Marilly!!
Great location for Mt. Rainier visit
This was a great location for our visit to Mt. Rainier National Park. The property was as advertised. We enjoyed the elk grazing in the yard!
Extremely clean, quiet, and private
This cabin is provided with everything for a very relaxing stay here. Beautiful hot tub, peaceful atmosphere, and view of Mr. Rainier are hard to beat! Excellent communication in the reservation process was thorough and easy. We will reserve again!
