We booked this rental for a fun family lakeside weekend. As other reviewers have noted (unfortunately after our visit), the lake is not actually connected to the property and the public “beach” was more of a small grassy knoll with a picnic table on a stretch of stagnant water. We asked a few locals where the public beach was located and were told that there was no public beach. Much like reviewer Sherry O., we arrived to find the futon broken. The listing says it sleeps 6 so we booked this location for a family of 6, which was did not actually work given the broken futon. We contacted the owner, who requested that we send photos of the futon, which we did, but he did nothing to resolve this. He suggested that one of us sleep on the reclining chair in the living room. The inside of the cabin was impressively clean but the outside was questionable. We were looking forward to using the screened-in porch but it turned out to be covered in a thick layer of cobwebs and previously claimed by a large family of spiders. We encountered a similar issue with the outdoor spaces. We brought several homemade meals to warm up in the oven, only to discover that the oven did not actually work. So we sent the brave men of our family through the spider jungle to make do with the outdoor grill. In case anyone was wondering, it turns out you can warm up lasagna on a grill, so I guess we can thank this property for teaching us that valuable life skill. We had a toddler with us so we were a touch concerned about the exposed outlet in the bathroom and found it rather inconvenient that there was no stopper for the bathtub. We had booked the place Thursday – Sunday. We stayed one night and realized this property was not actually going to meet our needs. We contacted the owner Friday afternoon and let him know we would be leaving at that time. Eventually we were able to reclaim our deposits as well as $100, which was not ideal given that we did not actually stay Friday or Saturday night but I suppose it was better than nothing. I would advise potential renters to take note of the fact that the 5-star reviews seem to be written in bursts; three on one day, three on a another day, three more on another day, etc. Pretty suspicious.
We chose this cabin based on location and reasonable rental cost. We were delighted with the cabin and if we return to this area, we will definitely rent this cabin again!
We loved our six week stay on the shores of Lake Koshkonong. Everything we needed was available. The location was nice as it is close to so many restaurants, parks, museums and beaches. My husband caught many fish out in his kayak! There is no washer and dryer but there is a laundromat right in town. We will definately stay here again. Thank You!
This cabin had everything we needed. It was comfortable with plenty of common area room.
We spent a few days in the house and it was exactly what we were looking for. Quiet and away from it all. I did misinterpret that it is not directly on the lake so I wish that was a bit clearer. While leaves are on the trees there are no views of the lake. You need to walk a few blocks down to a beach which was pretty uninviting. The smell and the flies made us walk away as soon as we got there. I read elsewhere that there are other great public beaches but we were only there for a few days so the house was enough for us to relax in!
The screened in porch was nice, the property is in excellent condition for its age. The owner was readily available to answer questions and was helpful. We were disappointed in the view as the trees prevented us from seeing the lake. You could catch glimpses of the water through the leaves but it left us wanting for the view. There is a park about 2 city blocks away on the lake but access to the water there is difficult, no beach at the closest place to view the lake. The fenced in yard was great for our dog.
