Beautiful 3BR, 2 bath 1930's cottage in a quiet neighborhood!
This beautiful cottage is perfect for family reunions, wedding parties, gal-pal getaways, or golfing buddies. Not only do you have all the comforts of home in a quiet, historic neighborhood -- you're also smack-dab in the middle of town . . . so that you can walk to EVERYTHING! The Craftsman Cottage is surrounded by a quiet garden oasis, providing a private, tranquil retreat from the world, --- yet you are literally steps away from wonderful restaurants, shops, and the Historic District!
This 1930's cottage has been completely renovated and has high ceilings and a wonderfully open floor plan which help it live large! The house has a large front porch with tables and chairs where you can relax and watch boats meandering along the Beaufort River beyond Bellamy Bluff (across the street).
The spacious living room includes a leather sofa, side chairs, footstools, a fireplace, and floor-to-ceiling bookcases. In addition to joining the kitchen and dining areas, the Great Room provides extra seating and a breakfast bar. A brick fireplace also anchors this family-dining room and is flanked by floor-to-ceiling bookcases; the dining table is set into a bay window alcove. The polished hardwood breakfast bar overlooks a large open kitchen with Corian countertops. A washer and dryer are set in an alcove off the kitchen just beyond the pantry.
The front bedroom has a king-sized bed, the middle bedroom had two twins, and the back bedroom has a queen. The front bath, which has a pedestal sink, porcelain tub, and wainscoted walls is accessible from the hallway between the king and twin bedrooms.
The second bath -- with twin furniture-style cabinet sinks, custom-tiled floors and walls, and a quarter-circle shower -- is accessible through the queen bedroom. Each bedroom (along with the living room) has its own TV with DVD player. The house has basic cable with major network channels, and a desk with secured WiFi.
On the side of the cottage is a private garden complete with patio table, chairs, grill, birdbath and bench for your outdoor enjoyment.

About Brenda Hood
I’m a Lowcountry native. I grew up in Charleston and have lived in Beaufort for 25 years, so I know the Lowcountry area well. My favorite pastime as a child was traipsing through lowcountry swamps and woods -- finding unusual plants and artifacts, picking blackberries, and just communing with nature. That early wandering around may have been a foretelling of my true nature. I’ve often joked that my ancestors were gypsies or vagabonds, because I yearned to travel from an early age! By the time I finished college, however, I hadn’t been much of anywhere! So, when my husband graduated law school, I convinced him to enter the Army JAG Corps on the premise that HE could gain valuable courtroom experience, WE could travel, and I could improve my command of the German language (I was teaching German). We spent our first 5 years in Germany! For the next 20 years, we traveled with Uncle Sam. Life in the military afforded my family the opportunity – not to just travel, but to immerse ourselves in other cultures . . . to truly live like the locals! As a result, I understand what visitors need when away from home. Likewise, life as a military wife/mother has also provided me with the expertise to turn each new abode into a real home. I have taken great pride in doing just that for our guests in our Craftsman Cottage and the e suites in The Tabby Townhome at Magnolia Court Guest Suites! We literally stumbled onto Beaufort while vacationing on Hilton Head. What a delight! Beaufort had everything we wanted. It’s a small version of historic Charleston; coastal (we were land-locked for years) with salt marshes and palm trees; picturesque with antebellum homes and moss-draped oaks; and rich with a colorful history that predates the arrival of Spanish, French, and then English explorers in the 1500 and 1600’s. Beaufort provides the friendliness of a small town along with the diversity and sophistication you would only expect to find in a large cosmopolitan city.
Brenda Hood purchased this Cottage in 2004
Why Brenda Hood chose Uptown
I've had to pack up my career and reinvent myself as we moved around the world with Uncle Sam. I’ve done it all -- a teacher, writer, community relations, public relations, marketing and so on. Shortly after arriving in Beaufort I decided to make a major career shift and opened an antiques shop. The need to escape a drawn-out road construction project in Beaufort ultimately led to the purchase of this 1930’s cottage in 2004 to relocate/house my shop. I wanted a property close to town but not on the main thoroughfare and I didn't want it to 'look' commercial. I was also intrigued with the potential of the two-story tabby townhome next door (where our the listing The Manhattan, vrbo # 84972 is located). At the time, there were no many nice hotels in town and even fewer options for people to stay for extended periods of time and wanting more than just a hotel room. I jumped in and bought both properties along with plans to renovate the three-unit then derelict townhome into fully-furnished apartments that could be rented for short periods of time. I had never heard of short-term rentals or VRBO at that time -- but nonetheless established the Tabby Townhome (with e individual suites) at Magnolia Court Guest Suites (vrbo#84972) to launch my rental business. Several years later, just prior to the "crash" of the stock market, I closed the antiques shop, and transformed the cottage into an additional rental which you see here (vrbo# 710172). The size and charm of The Craftsman Cottage make it a perfect choice for families, gal-pal getaways, and golfing/fishing weekends. It offers sleeping for six to eight guests. The combination of both properties provides an atractive option for family reunions, wedding parties and family get-togthers.
What makes this Cottage unique
We've met so many wonderful people since we opened in 2005 and love to have them return year after year -- snow birds from the northern United States and Canada looking to winter-over in a milder climate, professionals working in Beaufort for several months and wanting something more than a hotel room, friends meeting up in a place where they can be together, families and couples vacationing, military families moving into or out of the area, people relocating to Beaufort and needing a home while theirs is being built, and local families hosting an overflow of guests for special occasions. The Craftsman Cottage, with its open floor plan, large front porch, secluded side garden and terrific location make it a wonderful place to stay. And the icing on the cake? We have our very own boat landing at the end of our street . . . and a gorgeous oak-shaded park just one block away! I still love to travel and hope to hit the road more frequently now. And naturally, I’ll be staying in guest rentals – with all the comforts of home – especially if they’re located, like ours, in the heart of the community -- so I, too, can easily walk everywhere. We welcome you . . . to The Craftsman Cottage at Magnolia Court Guest Suites, your Home Away from Home.

Magnolia Craftsman House
We enjoyed our stay at Magnolia. Brenda has thought of just about everything to make the stay great. Her attention to detail is amazing. The cupboards are stocked with all you need for cooking (if you want to), the beds are comfortable and the porch is great. The garden is very well cared for and has a nice outdoor eating area. There are restaurants close by and some shopping. A great place to visit!
This was our third year staying at Magnolia Court. We still love it and are returning again next year.
Very well appointed and comfortable.
The owner was great and stayed in touch to make sure everything went smoothly. Great location close to town. Only one shower but berything else was fantastic.
Thanks, Peter, for choosing the Craftsman Cottage for your golf weekend with your friend and three sons. So glad you had a great time and enjoyed your stay. Yes, we are looking at how we can adapt that bathroom to a tub/shower configuration. When we renovated the cottage our aim was to have at least one tub (because many people like those as well), and the tub seemed logical because of the window, which we didn't want to eliminate on that wall. But, . . . a combination WOULD be nice! We'll look into it further. Hope to see you back for more golf! -- Brenda Hood, Owner/Operator
Great home and location
We enjoyed our week long home away from home so much. Out your door in any direction was parks to explore shops and great restaurants to eat. You are about a ten minute walk from the river front. We had everything we needed for our stay.
Thanks so much, Karen, for choosing to stay with us at Magnolia Court Guest Suites -- and I'm so sorry your stay was delayed by Hurricane Matthew's arrival last fall, but happy that we could accommodate you! I was glad to finally get to meet you and your husband and delighted that you both dove into everything Beaufort has to offer. It is a delightful town -- much like a small version of my hometown, Charleston . . . and our location puts you in the center of it all. Please pass the word to your friends and neighbors about the Craftsman Cottage at Magnolia Court . . . and we hope to see YOU again, too! -- Brenda Hood, owner/operator
We spent a long weekend visiting my daughter's family last October and were thrilled with our stay in the Craftsman Cottage. It was very spacious and extremely comfortable. We had two of our other kids and a grandbaby with us and there was plenty of room for everyone to spread out. We were very close to the waterfront and some amazing restaurants. There was also a park for the kids just down the street. And Brenda was a super hostess! We can't wait to go back!
Thanks, Cathy. The Craftsman Cottage is a wonderful place for families (and couples as well as golfers and girls-weekend-getways). And you can easily walk to everything! We look forward to having you back! -- Brenda
Beautiful home away from home
My wife and I brought our adult children and grand children to Magnolia Court in August and loved our stay. Plenty of room, great cooking area and beautifully decorated. Close to all the best of Beaufort and easy travel to Charleston too. Brenda exceeded our expectations. We will be going back in January and look forward to staying in one of the smaller units since it will be just my wife and I .
So glad you all enjoyed your stay with us, Mike. I know it can be tricky finding the right place large enough for the whole family. We're lucky to have The Craftsman Cottage with the flexibility of sleeping 6-8 people . . . and we'll be glad to have one of the smaller suites next door in our Tabby Townhome ready for you and your wife to come back for a visit! We'll keep the light on for you!
As a coastal community, beach-combing, fishing, shrimping and crabbing are naturally big past times. Golfing is also BIG in the Lowcountry of South Carolina -- with many World-Class Courses in the area. We'll provide you with a contact list of public courses where you can play. Kayaks and paddle boards are available locally for rent and group outings are available. In addition, there are two skateboard arenas about 15-20 minutes away. Deep-sea and fresh-water fishing tours can be booked locally. In addition, bicycles are available for rent locally for exploring out great new Spanish Moss Biking Trail.
