We take you back in time to find inspiration for a truly modern way of living; an inspiring mid century home in the style of Joseph Eichler. Enjoy its organic styling and open concept. Relax in natural light flooding in from the large windows and skylights above.
Our passion for authentic mid century furniture is apparent as you walk through the home. Admire the beauty of the natural materials - the colors, patterns, and simple clean lines that is the appeal of this era.

My husband, Craig, and I have been married for 30 years and love Humboldt County! We met while attending Humboldt State University in the 1980s and stayed here. We have a beautiful son and daughter-in-law; we love to visit them and the rest of our family up and down the coast. Traveling also allows us to indulge in our passion for mid century furniture and decor. The 'hunt' for that iconic mid century piece is what keeps us going, and we can think nothing better than to share some of our finds with you! It's interesting how we look back in time to find the most modern way of living - look to the past to create interiors that are in the vanguard of fashion. We hope you enjoy our home as much as we do. We are only minutes away and are available if you have any questions or issues during your stay.
Mercedes Compton purchased this house in 2015
Eureka is peppered with wonderful mid century homes. We fell in love with this mid century home because of its beautiful architecture. The home was built in 1959 and designed by Walter K. Blackburn.
This home is situated on a dead-end street with a beautiful, natural redwood setting. You will enjoy walking in this neighborhood, and Henderson Center is only s few blocks away; there you will find a drug store, hair salon, sandwich shop, bakery, post office, thrift stores, pet store, and banking institutions. The Farmer's Market is also found there during the Spring/Summer where you can buy fresh organic produce!
We have stayed in vacation homes in the U.S.A., Canada, and Europe for many years and this is absolutely the best. The pictures don't do it justice. The owner has stocked it with everything imaginable. If you are a Mad Men fan, it would be like staying in Don Draper's home. Check out the cabinet of martini glasses and shaker...and all of the other period items. A film star did actually stay there but I won't be a spoiler on that one. The owner is extremely helpful. We left a redwoods souvenir poster behind. She sent us a text when she found it and mailed it to us.
This was our first trip to Eureka and we are looking forward to the next. Don't be concerned about the negative comments on downtown; it is perfectly safe and has some charming restaurants. The zoo is close and well worth a visit. Recommend that you also take a walk around the "alphabet" streets near this home. The neighborhood is full of Mid Century and
Craftsman homes...but none as neat as this one.
This unit had every amenity and then some. Pictures do not do it justice. Starting with the 5 star kitchen and open gathering space. Bedrooms complete with wonderful beds and sheets. Lovely back yard space with a delightful hot tub. A great and comfortable home in the city, yet on the outskirts under the redwoods. Mercedes was attentive to all of our needs of which we had none. It truly was perfect!
We were a family of six (four kids aged ten to sixteen) and the house was a perfect place to spend Christmas. If you like mid-century modern, as we do, the house is so perfectly decorated, from the furniture to the art. The kitchen had everything (and more) we needed. The house had just enough to offer if we ran out of local things to do (DVDs, board games, bikes, hot tub). Mercedes was quick to reply if we had questions. We hope to be back!
Very nice, well kept home with a 1960's decor styling flare in secluded location. The home had a lot of natural sunlight coming in which made it very warm and welcoming even on the rainy days we were there. The owners Mercedes and Craig were great to work with and live in the area in case something comes up. Something did come up, we were unable to get hot water on the first night and Craig came over a little while later to resolve the issue. The home was stocked like a nice hotel with linens, bath towels, toiletries but with all the comforts of home. The hot tub was a real nice feature to enjoy the evening stars between the large redwood trees. The family room furniture matching the 1960's decor was not real comfortable compared to today's couches, we used pillows as needed to help with the comfort level. This is why I am ranking this as a 4 star stay, otherwise it would be a 5. I would recommend this property to others. I hope to stay there again in the future. Thank you!
I have rented dozens of homes all around the country and I have never rented one as nice. The kitchen is over the top nice and extreamly well equipped. We cooked a full thanksgiving dinner with ease. With a choice of dinner plates and many serving vessels, it was great fun to choose.
The home was clean, well appointed, quiet, warm and relaxing. The decor was great, the whole feel of the place was welcoming, and if I come back to Eureka and need a place to stay, you can bet I'll come here!
