About Mercedes Compton
My husband, Craig, and I have been married for 32 years and love Humboldt County! We met while attending Humboldt State University in the 1980s and stayed here. We have a beautiful son and daughter-in-law; we love to visit them and the rest of our family up and down the coast. Traveling also allows us to indulge in our passion for mid century furniture and decor. The 'hunt' for that iconic mid century piece is what keeps us going, and we can think nothing better than to share some of our finds with you! It's interesting how we look back in time to find the most modern way of living - look to the past to create interiors that are in the vanguard of fashion. We hope you enjoy our home as much as we do. We are only minutes away and are available if you have any questions or issues during your stay.

Why Mercedes Compton chose Eureka
Eureka is peppered with wonderful mid century homes. We fell in love with this mid century home because of its beautiful architecture. The home was built in 1959 and designed by Walter K. Blackburn.
What makes this House unique
This home is situated on a dead-end street with a beautiful, natural redwood setting. You will enjoy walking in this neighborhood, and Henderson Center is only s few blocks away; there you will find a drug store, hair salon, sandwich shop, bakery, post office, thrift stores, pet store, and banking institutions. The Farmer's Market is also found there during the Spring/Summer where you can buy fresh organic produce!

Amazing house in redwoods
We LOVED our stay in the mid century modern. The house itself is beautiful and we immediately felt right at home. The backyard is a little paradise. It’s so cool to hangout in the hot tub while looking at redwoods. Everything is very nice quality and the place was very clean. We accidentally left something and they immediately told us and offered to send it to us. This is one of my top places we’ve rented and we have been to over 20 states and we always rent vrbos. This is definitely on our come back to list! Thanks again for everything!
Excellent, well-appointed Redwoods Retreat
I have never written a review before, but I have stayed at many properties. I felt compelled to write a great review as we had such a wonderful stay and felt right at home. The house is extremely clean and nice, and fit our family of 5 perfectly. We enjoyed the peaceful location and the ability to see redwoods right out the door! The property is spacious and has great natural light. It was also extremely well stocked, with everything we could hope for in terms of kitchen essentials, linens, etc. If you are vacationing in this area, I highly recommend!
Great house, very well equipped, would not hesitate to rent again
I really enjoyed staying here. I was with my family celebrating early Christmas and we cooked 2 of the 3 nights we stayed there. The kitchen literally has everything you need. Which is unlike many of the other places I have stayed throughout my travels. It is great for a group, the seating around the table fit all 6 of us, and the living room is very cozy. The beds were comfortable. We needed one thing and Mercedes was beyond quick to respond and help out. I stupidly forgot to bring my bathing suit so we did not use the hot tub, but the backyard was beautiful with plenty of seating and a grill! Thank you for making this such a pleasant home to stay in!
Incredibly beautiful with period decor, nice layout, and great location
This is one of the nicest vacation properties we’ve rented. It is a beautiful mid century home, that has been nicely renovated and updated while keeping many nice period details. The layout and kitchen are very functional and easy to work in.
The house is near the end of a no outlet road in a quiet residential neighborhood. You can walk along the road into the forest which is very pretty. The backyard has nice large redwood trees and makes a nice place to sit out and watch the forest.
The owners live locally and were exceptionally supportive and helpful.
Great attention to detail
I've stayed in a lot of VRBO properties and this one had the best attention to detail, everything was in correct for mid century modern (except the beds which were really comfortable :-). It also has a really well equipped kitchen, best we've seen in a rental. The location is great, really quiet but less than 10 mins from the center of Eureka. Privacy is good (important for those who have a Californian attitude toward hot tubs). My only criticism, and it's a really minor one, would be that some labels on the light switches would help becasue it's a bit confusing trying to find the right one.
Provided are 2 vintage bicycles with helmets for your use. Take a bike ride to the Farmer's Market in Henderson Center, or to the Sequoia Park Zoo!
