"More Than a Room" guest house is located a 1/2 block from the Mississippi River in the heart of Bellevue, Iowa. The house is walking distance from downtown restaurants and night life. Walk the beautiful Bellevue River front or up to the lookout at Bellevue State park.
This 1960's built ranch home has some of it's original charm. The house is comfortable and well suited for family groups, girls weekends, wedding quests, boaters or a couples get-away. The house sleeps up to six people. The front and back bedrooms each have one king size bed that can be separated into two twin beds. The living room sofa converts to a queen sofa sleeper. Off street parking will accommodate two cars. The dine-in kitchen is well equipped. The house is complete with cable TV, DVD player, deck furniture, a charcoal grill, bedding and towels.

Our weekly rate is $600 per week ( 7 nights)
We will have special rates for multiple night stays of three nights or more up to 7 days.
3 day weekend special rates: Thursday, Friday, Saturday nights $360 or Friday, Saturday, Sunday nights $360
4 day weekend special rates: two week nights along with Friday and Saturday nights $425
Multiple week nights- discount: 3 week nights $95 per night or 4-5 week nights $90 per night
Multiple weeks discount: Ask about additional discounts for two weeks or more, but less than a month.
Contracted bookings for more than 31 consecutive days are not subject to state excise and local hotel motel tax.
5% excise tax and 7% local option hotel/ motel tax. ( 12% total) No Pets, No Smoking, No guests under that age of 21 without parent of responsible adults.
We are considering using "Homeaway " payments, but at this time we are not. We do accept payments by check or cash.
Owner's cancellation policy:
50% refund for cancellations more than 30 days before check-in date.
100% refund for cancellations more than 60 days before check-in date.

Bellevue is a community the is nestled between the Mississippi River, scenic river bluffs and rich farm land. Water lovers will enjoy the view of the river. Three boat ramps within 5 miles of the house. Brush Creek winery is a short trip outside of town or their store front is on S River View Dr in the Serendipity Shop. Golfers will love the 9 hole golf course north of Bellevue with an elevated view of the Mississippi River. Bellevue has a host of small businesses which include specialty shops, a hardware store, grocery store, laundromat, banks ( with ATM's), salons and massage therapists. There are a variety of small town restaurants to choose from. You can choose from a mom and pop style diners, pizza places, chef prepared meals to burger joints. Most people would find them to be all within walking distance of the house. There is a doctors office that is open Monday thru Friday. ( Dubuque has two large hospitals with Acute care clinic and emergency rooms. approx 30 minute drive)

About the owner: Terry and Lori both work in service related professions in local government. Lori's hobbies included kayaking, canoeing, camping and quilting. She volunteers for her church with the church garden. The produce from the church garden is donated to the local food pantry. She has been to Haiti twice for service trips. Terry's passions revolve around keeping his yard(s) and vehicles in tip top shape. They have two grown children that both live in the general area. Terry was born and raised in Bellevue and has only had one zip code his entire life. Lori was raised in DeWitt, Iowa and moved to Waco, Texas immediately after high school graduation. She returned to eastern Iowa in 1999 and married Terry two years later. She embraced Bellevue, Iowa as her home. She and Terry are both involved in community organizations and are not strangers to area fish-frys, fund raiser dinners and auctions. Lori wanted to buy a house in Bellevue specifically to use as a guest house since 2007. Terry was very apprehensive and did not easily get behind the idea thinking it was a risky financial venture. Terry and Lori were talking with classmates that were back for Terry's 30th class reunion in the summer of 2014. Terry heard of their difficulty to find affordable family style rentals in Bellevue. Lori asked the classmates their opinion of a guest house that would rent to one group of family at a time for about the same price as most pay to rent just a room. The classmates welcomed the idea and said they wished it was available already. As soon as Terry was on board with the idea, Lori went to work to find the "perfect" house for their venture.
Why the Owner Chose Bellevue, IA, USA:
Lori looked at the house at 100 Spring Street a few times. For Lori, the house was ideal! The view of the river from the front deck was more than she could have expected to find in their price range. She envisioned people sitting on the front deck sipping coffee and reading the morning paper. Terry agreed, the little 1960's ranch house seemed perfect! They made their purchase in September of 2014. They had a few weeks of of cleaning, replacing counter tops and painting. Their first guest stayed in October of 2014.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Since the opening of the guest house, it has been home to families that have been visiting friends and family, family staying for weddings & holidays and families back to Bellevue for funerals. Terry & Lori welcomed their first international guests in April of 2015. The house has proven itself as a convenient and comfortable family home for it's guests. The short walk to the river to the east and watching the trains pass on the west side of the house is something unique for most people to experience. ( Bellevue is a horn free zone for the trains. Horns are only used by the trains in case of emergency or to warn a track crosser that their crossing is not safe)
