Beautiful spot!

Was a great getaway. Had everything you need to be comfortable and nothing at all to worry about. Swimming at the dock was a nice touch. Didn't want to leave

Very enjoyable four night stay stay in Algonquin Park area

  • 5 of 5

Last year, my sons and I had our first winter experience in Algonquin Park - camping in in a tent and sleeping bags in -5 degrees Fahrenheit conditions. We enjoyed it a lot but quite honestly, we froze at night. This year, I wanted to return for another weekend of cross country skiing and snowshoeing in Algonquin but decided to try a rental home. The lineup changed with my wife and dog coming (once she heard we were renting a home, lol). I could not have made a better choice relative to accommodations for a number of reasons. First, it turned out to be one of the most frigid stretches in a long while. We experienced overnight temperatures as low as -25F. The days "warmed up" to around -2F to 2F. Next, this property is located very close to Algonquin Park - maybe a 20 minute ride to the West Gate - where there is a great cross country ski trail network - Fen Lake. The trail system near the East Gate - Leaf Lake - is also terrific. The location was close enough to Huntsville to allow us some time to enjoy shopping in the historic district and the little village of Dwight has a nice little grocery store as well as several restaurants. We went to the Bush Country Bar and Grill one evening and had a very nice meal. The other nights we stayed in and enjoyed preparing our meals in the very nicely equipped kitchen. Which brings me to the property itself. It comes as advertised. The great room is super nice. When it's so cold outside, you need a nice cozy place to hunker down and this place fit the bill. The property has a very nice lodge like feel to it which adds to the overall experience. The floor to ceiling windows are great and privacy curtains do a great job when needed. The master suite on the main level is very nice and my one son who came this year enjoyed having the upstairs to himself. The view out the master bedroom toward the back of the property is very nice - and we snowshoed back there every day. Both of the upstairs bedrooms, btw, are very nicely sized. The bathrooms were clean and looked like new and it's great having a clothes washer and dryer available. The reservation process was smooth and the owners were great communicators. We had one issue upon our arrival and they were very responsive. There's such a beauty to Algonquin Park that those who have experienced really appreciate. Winter in Algonquin is uniquely beautiful and well worth the effort. This property is a great option to consider for your winter visit

Amazing getaway chalet

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is every bit as beautiful as it looks in the photos. It offered the perfect combination of country and convenience. The house was clean, comfortable, and well-appointed; we managed to both cook and bake during our stay. Set back from the road and with nothing but woods in the back, it feels quite private while still part of a friendly small community set on a beautiful lake. The town of Dwight, where one can find all the essentials, is an easy 5-minute drive away. Amie and Ian are just down the road and were extremely responsive and helpful by text and phone. We loved it. This was truly the perfect getaway for us.

We enjoyed our stay. Lovely, spacious home with W/D, dishwasher, bathtub. Shallow sandy Beach. Super

  • 4 of 5

Three bedrooms, three bathrooms. Beautiful full wall of windows looking into the trees. Deer passing by every day. All the comforts of home. Lots of parking. Fire pit with Muskoka chairs. Nice dock with rippled Sandy bottom. Good fishing.

Drawbacks were: cottage not on the water, dock not appropriate for mooring our boat, dock 300 metres down the road from cottage. Items to bring are oven mitts, salad bowls, leftover food containers, foil/ Saran Wrap, soap, shampoo, detergent.

Another year, another great stay!

  • 5 of 5

This was the second year in a row we stayed at Ian and Amie's beautiful cottage in Dwight. As usual, the property was clean and well stocked with basic supplies when we arrived, making our stay easy and straightforward. We were hit with a severe thunderstorm during our stay and lost power, but Ian was super helpful and walked us through the backup generator setup to ensure we had a little bit of power during the outage.

Looking forward to another visit next year! Thanks again to Ian and Amie for the hospitality!
