Overview

About the property

Though the cottage was built in 1952, it has been fully upgraded including central heat. One bedroom has a double bed with closet and dresser, the other a bunk beds also with closet and dresser. Bedding, towels etc. are supplied and the kitchen is fully equipped. The cottage faces south overlooking the harbor, the mussel ridges and southern islands. There is plenty of lawn for the kids and your property includes 33 private acres to explore. Your own north shore has 1700 feet of shoreline with grassy and wooded knolls for camping ore reading, pebbly private beaches for swimming and plenty of space for a lobster picnic. The view north overlooks the Camden hills and rests on the southern edge of Penobscot Bay, noted for being some of the most beautiful cruising grounds in the world. The Owls Head Light State Park adjoins the property east and its historic old light has the perfect view for picture taking.

Your property is within walking distance of downtown Owls Head where you can find one post office and one small general store, noted for a great lobster-man's breakfasts, famous cheeseburgers and home made apple pie.

The regional airport is only a few minutes away and includes the "Owls Head Transportation Museum" where many events are scheduled throughout the summer. Of course flights to and from the airport connect with the rest of the world. The city of Rockland is a 15 minute drive and has great restaurants, an active waterfront, and is noted for its annual Blues and Lobster festivals. The Farnsworth Museum is located in Rockland, as well as antique and gift shops. Ferries run regularly to the islands and make a great afternoon ride. The Samoset Resort is located just north and offers simple or formal dinning as well as golf and tennis. The resort's golf course, some say, has some of the most beautiful scenery of any in the country. While your there, take the mile walk on the Rockland breakwater to the old Rockland Lighthouse.

North on Rt 1 is Rockport, a typical Maine harbor town, with Camden a little farther. Both offer cruises on old Maine schooners and kayaks to rent for harbor exploring.

The Camden State Park is just north and Mount Katardin, the end of the Appalachian trail, is not far and makes a good hike. Bring your lunch and walking shoes.

Area attractions are too numerous to mention here. Google our towns, they're chambers of commerce, or specific attractions, for more information.

Nice Cottage - better keep it that way!

  • 1 of 5

The Easter Hill Cottage was very nice: relaxing views and beautiful land to discover. However, in spite of paying HomeAway for damage protection at the time of booking and leaving only normal wear and tear (I missed some cereal my young children left when vacuuming the couch, and the bottom screen of the screen door was knocked loose from repeatedly being pushed on by little hands) the owner continually hit me up for cash payments. He refused to go through HomeAway and use the damage protection I paid for, and repeatedly insisted I send him cash payments directly to his personal address. He threatened to leave a poor review and make it difficult for me to use VBRO rental services unless I sent him half a grand directly. What is the point in purchasing damage protection if the owner refuses to use it?

Owner's Response: The insurance purchased, to my knowledge, does not cover damage to the property caused by the tenant. Damage caused was explicity described and not debated by the tenant. The 300 plus dollars charged the tenant for damage that significantly exceeded fare ware and tare was justified by bills forwarded the tenant for labor and materials required to return the property to a rentable condition. No security deposit had been required as part of the rental agreement. Bob Adams. Owner

Peaceful cottage surrounded by beautiful woods and waters

  • 5 of 5

I had a wonderful stay at the cottage in Owls Head. Communication with the owner was easy and I always received a speedy response. He was accommodating even when I needed to change my arrival/departure dates. The property manager was also very helpful during my time there. The cottage itself is in a most beautiful location; the woods and harbor are spectacular. And the lighthouse next door is enchanting. I found the cottage to be cozy and it had everything I needed to be very comfortable for the weeks that I stayed. The location near Rockland and other quaint towns was convenient and provided many opportunities to explore and hike in some great locations. I highly recommend this cottage and I hope I will have the opportunity to stay again.

This is a perfect setting for a Maine vacation.

  • 4 of 5

The property description is accurate and this is an adorable cottage, overlooking the lobster boats in Owl's Head harbor. It is a short drive to interesting Rockland and about 30 min. to touristy Camden and hiking or driving to Mt. Battie. The owner was responsive to inquiries and held the cottage while I confirmed dates with family. The kitchen contained everything needed and linens (sheets, bath and kitchen towels) are included. Also, the property manager was easily contacted when necessary. I hope to return here again!

Very peaceful with beautiful open views of the harbor, fields and woods.

  • 5 of 5

I enjoyed my stay here and would gladly return. Owl's Head is my favorite place to stay in Maine and this place has some of the best parts of being there. The house is bright and comfortable with a nice open kitchen. I loved walking the path through the woods to the North Shore... Beautiful!!!

A delightful small cottage with harbor views

  • 4 of 5

My husband, daughter and I enjoyed a great week at Easter Hill Cottage again.

We had stayed here last year, and we loved the location and the opportunity to

walk down to all the beautiful beaches. So, we decided to return.

Brian, the manager, is always very welcoming, and we were so happy to be back. We had

perfect weather. The cooling ocean breezes in the afternoon were most welcome.

We like being near Rockland, but the village of Owls Head is a charming place to stay -.

A good get away.

All was shipshape in the cottage. There are plenty of pots and pans in the kitchen.

The mattress in the large bedroom seems a bit soft.

All in all, it was a perfect week.

Wish we could own this place

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I just finished our week stay here and we wish we could have stayed longer. Having breakfast looking out over the harbor was a great way to start each day. We really enjoyed walking down to the private beaches on the property or going up the road a short walk to the lighthouse. The property is very close to town so it was perfect for short day trips into Rockland and beyond for visits to museums, restaurants, the breakwater, and parks. Seeing deer wandering through the yard two mornings out of the week was just a pleasant bonus.

Bob, the owner, was very easy to work with via email and his manager on site, Brian, was extremely helpful and personable. We had everything we needed and everything went very smoothly. The cottage being all one level with no significant steps was great for people (and our dogs) with mobility issues, though it's too tight to be wheelchair accessible.

There were only two minor negatives that folks planning a stay here should be aware of. None would stop us from coming back again, just good to know in advance to manage expectations:

1. The cottage is very small. Specifically, the bathroom and shower are functional, but tiny

2. The tap water is very mineralized - it's good for showering, washing, and cooking, but you'll want bottled water for drinking

Besides that, it was perfect. Thanks Bob and Brian.

The protective slat should be raised to its highest position and the bunk should be for sleeping only. Water and Septic: The cottage well water has a high mineral content. Please check in with Brian before you leave, particularly if you have any change in your plans, such as leaving early, or there are any maintenance requirements. Check with Brian or myself should you like to extend your stay. Your damage deposit will be refunded after the cottage has been inspected and: no damage has been found beyond normal wear and tear, no items are missing – such as towels, linens, etc. no out of the ordinary clean-up or maid service is required, the lawn is picked up and trash free, toys put away, garbage is bagged and placed in the shed, etc. DURING YOUR STAY, bag all trash and put in the shed for pickup. If left outside, the raccoons will explore it for nibblies. CAUTIONS: On weekends, Lighthouse Road can be quite active due to park traffic. If you have children with you, be sure they use caution. The field and shore across the road is part of the cottage property, but there is a steep bank along the harbor.
