Custom built and just across the street from the shores of the Puget Sound.

For the past few years we have rented our home to a variety of Seattle Mariner baseball players. While we enjoyed having the players and their families stay here for the 6-month baseball season, our East coast friends and family members were not so happy - they missed being able to come out and stay with us during the beautiful Seattle summers. So this year we are making our home available to VRBO clients to give us the flexibility to still have occasional access to accomodate our family. You’ll feel right at home in this custom built Alki home. Located just steps from the beach and a couple minute walk to all the restaurants and shops on Alki. If you like to cook or entertain you’ll love the gorgeous chefs kitchen. Spend your evenings enjoying the beautiful sunsets on one of the view decks or in the private backyard patio. Completely furnished with everything you will need during your stay (from linens and kitchenware to cooking spices ). Just move in and head to the beach.

About Rich Kline

My wife Jeanine and I met in Florida while on separate business trips. I was living in Seattle and she was living in Richmond, VA. After a little over a year of long distance dating I decided to move to the east coast to continue our relationship. Five years later we decided to return to the great northwest. We considered many of Seattle's wonderful neighborhoods in deciding on where we would like to settle down but one stood well above the rest. There were none quite like the Alki neighborhood. Surrounded by the waters of Puget Sound and views of the Olympic Mountains it is a very special place. We could not find a home that had the features we wanted so we ended up buying a little cottage that was built in 1918 and did a complete "renovation". We acted as the general contractors and did a lot of work ourselves and ended up with a home we love. But now we are traveling more and have decided to let others experience Alki from the comforts of our home. If you have not been to Seattle or visited Alki Beach you will be in for a real treat. We have not found many places like it in our travels and can't imagine living anywhere else.

Why Rich Kline chose West Seattle

We designed our home to have a welcoming feel. Even though it is over 3,000sf we tried to make it very comfortable. We have five bedrooms and four baths. Three bedrooms have their own bath with two that share a bath. Being located just across the street from the shores of the Puget Sound walking along the beach as the sun sets behind the Olympic Mountains makes for a special evening. If dinner out is something that interests you all the restaurants Alki has to offer are just a few minute walk away.

This house is loaded with originally fine, expensive decor but the living room furniture and carpets look worn. The owners have built themselves another residence virtually in the backyard of this house, and they have borrowed extensively from the electricity originally required by this house. The only backyard furniture was a table, no chairs, no umbrella, no barbecue. The surveillance cameras also keep an eye on the tenants, which we found creepy when the owners reminded one of our group via an email not to smoke on the porch. The beautiful steam room/shower can't be used as a steam room. You are instructed to leave the door open to air out the room after you use it. The master bedroom's bathroom toilet was difficult to operate and frequently clogged. Photos show deck chairs and text advises tenants to enjoy the view from the second floor, but there were no deck chairs. The downstairs gas fireplace did not work, neither did the ice maker although the owner provided us with bags of ice. For the rent being charged, we felt the property was not accurately represented.

Owner's Response: After receiving 56 straight 5 star reviews this 3 star stings a bit. But guests are certainly entitled to their opinion. However, I would like to respond to this renter’s comments. First the security camera. This renter makes it sound like there are cameras all around spying on them. That is certainly not the case. There is one camera on the front porch angled to show the sidewalk and front door. It is not monitored and is there only for the security of the home. I am at a loss about the claim of no patio chairs. There are 8 chairs around the table that have always been there year-round. A few days into the rental I was notified by my neighbor this group was constantly violating our most serious rental rule, our smoking policy, despite their agreement to adhere to it. Once notified I did email the renter a reminder. The second story deck furniture and the gas BBQ were not available during their stay. It was low (rainy) season. It's part of the reason for lower rates. During high season those items are set out. We have built a backyard cottage where my wife and I spend nights when we are not at our lake house or traveling. We built it while a Seattle Mariner ball player was renting the house. Knowing how they cherish their privacy we went to great lengths to make sure the two homes are very private from one another. The lower level shower has never been marketed as a sauna. Originally it was built as such. When the backyard cottage was built the 50 amps to power the steam generator was no longer available. Now it's just a very nice shower. The renter makes it sound like there is hardly enough power left in the house to function. That is simply not true. As far as the master bath toilet clogging and being hard to operate this is the first time I've heard of a problem after renting to hundreds of guests. I would have to question what they were putting down the toilet. The first-floor fireplace did develop a pilot light issue prior to this renters’ arrival. I sent an email informing them it was being serviced. They responded saying it would not be an issue. Unfortunately, this guest did not enjoy their visit. There may be 3 reasons why. We could not accommodate their request to spend several more nights, we did not allow a local family member to bring their large dog to stay in the house and they were dissatisfied with our smoking policy. We try very hard to ensure our guests have a wonderful stay in our home. It's unfortunate this guest felt differently.

Right Home great location !!

We had a wonderful experience of the house it has everything you could possibly need . Rich was readily available with any questions or needs that did come Up. We hope to stay there again someday . It's a wonderful location , close to the water, good walking area and close to a few restaurants.

Beautiful home & perfect Alki location

Our family has rented several homes in the Alki area, and this was by far our favorite. Your home is spacious enough to give each couple private space, but the living area and kitchen is cozy for our gatherings. We loved the views of the sound, and proximity of great jogging paths. The location was perfect - in close proximity to the bustle of commercial Alki, but removed enough for privacy and relaxation. We hope to visit again!

Thanks for letting us enjoy the comfort of your beautiful home so well located and furnished. Surjit was really happy to meet you and your wife to personally compliment on the tasteful furnishing of each room. Everyone enjoyed the individuality & fulfillment of their needs of the room they chose ( wish there were extra blankets available for the lower level room ). Kitchen was so well stocked ( my daughter did not have to worry about kids breaking nice dishes as they had plenty of their own available ).Family was pleased to remain a partner with you for saving energy and recycling to keep our planet safe .
