Overview

About the property

Custom built and just across the street from the shores of the Puget Sound.

For the past few years we have rented our home to a variety of Seattle Mariner baseball players. While we enjoyed having the players and their families stay here for the 6-month baseball season, our East coast friends and family members were not so happy - they missed being able to come out and stay with us during the beautiful Seattle summers. So this year we are making our home available to VRBO clients to give us the flexibility to still have occasional access to accomodate our family. You’ll feel right at home in this custom built Alki home. Located just steps from the beach and a couple minute walk to all the restaurants and shops on Alki. If you like to cook or entertain you’ll love the gorgeous chefs kitchen. Spend your evenings enjoying the beautiful sunsets on one of the view decks or in the private backyard patio. Completely furnished with everything you will need during your stay (from linens and kitchenware to cooking spices ). Just move in and head to the beach.

About Rich Kline

My wife Jeanine and I met in Florida while on separate business trips. I was living in Seattle and she was living in Richmond, VA. After a little over a year of long distance dating I decided to move to the east coast to continue our relationship. Five years later we decided to return to the great northwest. We considered many of Seattle's wonderful neighborhoods in deciding on where we would like to settle down but one stood well above the rest. There were none quite like the Alki neighborhood. Surrounded by the waters of Puget Sound and views of the Olympic Mountains it is a very special place. We could not find a home that had the features we wanted so we ended up buying a little cottage that was built in 1918 and did a complete "renovation". We acted as the general contractors and did a lot of work ourselves and ended up with a home we love. But now we are traveling more and have decided to let others experience Alki from the comforts of our home. If you have not been to Seattle or visited Alki Beach you will be in for a real treat. We have not found many places like it in our travels and can't imagine living anywhere else.

Rich Kline purchased this house in 2001

Why Rich Kline chose West Seattle

We designed our home to have a welcoming feel. Even though it is over 3,000sf we tried to make it very comfortable. We have five bedrooms and four baths. Three bedrooms have their own bath with two that share a bath. Being located just across the street from the shores of the Puget Sound walking along the beach as the sun sets behind the Olympic Mountains makes for a special evening. If dinner out is something that interests you all the restaurants Alki has to offer are just a few minute walk away.

What can you say when everything is perfect? The house was not only immaculate it was in a perfect location for staying near the beach or getting around anywhere in the Seattle Metro area. Everything you see in the online photos is even better in person. The owners, who met us at the house only to give us the initial run thru, were eager to please and make our stay entirely private without disruption. Everyone in our group of 10 was in agreement about this house and the location. This house is very close to the water and only 5 minute walk to all the restaurants you'll need. We would definitely stay again when in Seattle. Great House, Great Location, Great Owners. Don't hesitate to book this house when in Seattle.

Our whole family (3 generations) enjoyed our stay. Great location, nice view and the house has everything you could possibly need while there. Very well furnished and great amenities. Rich was extremely helpful upon arrival and easy to work with. Nice memories made in West Seattle & Seattle.

Outstanding Family Experience

  • 5 of 5

If I could scream it from the rooftops, I would tell everyone in the world who plans to visit Seattle to book their stay now at this wonderful Alki Beach home. This trip was our first adventure with both our sons and our grandchildren in tow -- 8 of us total. None had ever visited Seattle before, save one. What we experienced was amazing. First, the house! Thirty steps if that from the shores of Puget Sound, teaming with playful seals and bashful baby crabs that skittered under rocks along the shoreline. Early morning and late night sea watchers will be mesmerized by the tides rolling in and out. And the views of the Olympia mountain range from the upper deck front porches and Mount Ranier from just a little way down the beach were awesome! If you plan to rent a car, there's plenty of room to park outside the house. I might also suggest simply skipping the rental car and using Lyft drivers to get you around. Just download the app if you don't have it already, and embrace it. The cost of going anywhere we wanted to go -- downtown Seattle, Pikes Place Market, the Chittenden Locks with its fabulous fish ladder, the famous Needle, or even a grand shopping mall -- was never more than $30, and most often closer to $20 each way. Wait times were 6 minutes or less. If you don't want to go that far, there's a kayak or paddle board rental place along with a row of lovely restaurants an easy four-block walk away. Don't skip buying fresh (I mean no more than 48 hours old) fish from Pikes Market and bringing it home to cook. Perhaps our most scrumptious meal was fresh Ling Cod, cooked for about 12 minutes in heavy tinfoil on the available backyard grill, and served with drawn butter. Yum!! Rich and Jeannine, as you can tell, we loved our stay. The five bedrooms and four baths worked perfectly for our three teenagers and five adults. Your massage chair got a workout after our long days of exploration. Family breakfasts were a breeze to make on that wonderful, extra large chef's stove!!! If we were to plan another family trip to Seattle, you can be assured that your home would be our first choice. Thank you for making the celebration of our 50th wedding anniversary that much more special for us! All our best! The Dyes

Great Home for extended family and great location at Alki Beach

  • 5 of 5

Modern up to date home only 1 minute walk to rock beach (kids liked throwing into the Sound.) Short three block walk to sandy beach and many good restaurants. Plenty of room for multiple families. Back yard is very private with a grill. Two bedrooms have second floor balcony to sit on and watch the Sound. Master suite is private and well laid out. lots of little extras provided-Keurig Machine and separate larger coffee maker, many spices, teas, plenty of cooking utensils and dinnerware/glassware. 6 bottles of wine immediately available- just replace. The owner, Rich, very helpful and easy to get along with. Free bus to water taxi to Seattle is near the sand beach. Try Saltys and Dukes Restaurants. Rich provide lots of brochures with information about the area. Overall a great experience and house.

Great curb appeal--photos were not as attractive as the real!

  • 5 of 5

This house was perfect for our group of 9, ranging in age from 9 to 72. There was plenty of room--the teenager could retreat to the crow's nest and the parents could escape to the ground floor to enjoy the massage chair. The proximity to the beach was just right for us, and the porch was perfect for people-watching and taking in the breezes. We couldn't have asked for a better host--Rich was very accommodating and willing to take time to answer our many questions. His guidance saved us valuable time in making decisions as to which activities would work best for our group. The house is well cared for, in perfect condition, and the same is true for the lovely grounds. Thanks to our host for making such a great property available to us.

Spectacular Home!!!

  • 5 of 5

We rented this house for our family summer vacation. We were met by the owners upon our arrival. They made sure we knew everything we neded to know about the home and the area. Gavve us great pointers on nearby restaurants, beaches, water taxis and shuttles. We have rented at least 5 different VRBO homes and they had to be the nicest and most informative owners we have ever met!!

The home itself is absolutely gorgeous and spotless! Beautiful landscaping with freshly cut flowers waiting for us. The location is perect and everything from restaurants and beaches are all within a short walk away.

We did a lot of walking and sightseeing on this trip and we all took advantage of of the awesome massage chair down in the basement! That thing is amazing!! If we make it back up to the Seattle area again, this home will be first on our list. Thanks Rich and Jeanine for the incredible hospitality!!
