About the property

Pastime is better than ever! For those of you who have enjoyed Pastime before, we would love to have you come enjoy our cottage again, but this time with some upgrades, new furniture, fresh paint, etc. If you haven’t visited in the past, you will find an adorable “beachy” cottage where you can absorb the beautiful views of the ocean from the comfort of the living room or the spacious wrap around porch. We are located next to the Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station (23232 Surfside Drive) in Rodanthe, NC and though not considered ocean front, we have an unobstructed view of the ocean. The beach is only steps away making this cottage very convenient. If you love surfing, fishing, kitesurfing, or just hanging at the beach, you’ve found your dream vacation here! Enjoy feasting on seafood at the picnic table on the spacious deck or relaxing in our high top Adirondack chairs while you take in the breathtaking scenery. Enjoy the frequent sightings of dolphins, pelicans, and cute little sandpipers. The living room has a flat screen t.v., dvd player, and plenty of comfortable seating. The Captain’s Quarters has a queen bed and t.v. with a connecting bathroom to another bedroom with 2 twin beds. On the opposite side of the house, there is a bedroom with a double bed, and the fourth bedroom, also equipped with a t.v., has bunk beds with a double on bottom, a single on top, and a trundle bed. The second bathroom is conveniently situated in between these rooms. The kitchen is fully equipped and has a square high top table that seats 10 people. Also, there is a closed in outdoor shower with hot and cold water.

You’re just a short drive from Hatteras Lighthouse, Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge, the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum, small villages of Avon, Buxton, Waves, Frisco and Salvo. There is no shortage of wonderful restaurants in the area. You’re just a short walk from Liberty Gas Station and the Rodanthe Surf Shop. In addition, Okracoke Island is just a Ferry Ride away.

About Melissa Lynn

After 24 years in the Army, our family retired in Smithfield, VA and fell in love with Hatteras Island. We've always dreamed of owning a house at the beach and feel very blessed to have found the perfect beach cottage. Our kids (Marlee, Regan, and Josh) have taken up surfing and surf fishing while their parents kick back under an umbrella on the beach. Our little Jack Russell Terrier, Scamper, loves to chase balls and swim with the kids. We've enjoyed exploring the sights, taking walks on the beach (day or night), and enjoying family meals on the deck.

Melissa Lynn purchased this cottage in 2010

Why Melissa Lynn chose Rodanthe

We LOVE Rodanthe!!! This part of the island is the perfect getaway especially for those who love surfing, kiteboarding, etc. You're a short drive from the tourist attractions in busier locations, but Hatteras Island offers a more laid back, relaxing atmosphere.

What makes this cottage unique

This cottage offers a "beachy" décor in every room. There's a surf style room for the boys, a more feminine décor for the girls, and two rooms nautically decorated for anyone. We have 4 adirondack loungers, 2 high top Adirondack chairs, benches, and a picnic table on the wrap around deck for our guests to enjoy.

The house was completely what we needed for 3 couples!

  • 5 of 5

Very comfortable! Enough space for eating and relaxing. Two bedrooms and bath on each side of the living area. Had a TV in the captains quarters that I really enjoyed in the morning by myself. Kitchen had all the amenities that you would need. Loved our view of the ocean right from our LR and deck, and the easy walk to the ocean! Not even a minute away! We had an issue with the hot tub, which we used everyday. Called and they came and serviced the hot tub and also came back later in the week to make sure everything was still good. I would recommend this house to anyone. I would rent again and again. Rodanthe is so beautiful and less crowded than other outer bank locations!

Lovely, cozy beach cottage with great views and beach access

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying at Pastime. Just a few houses back from the shore, with excellent ocean views and easy beach access. A cozy, comfy, well-outfitted house. The hot tub on the balcony is great. We hope to return soon!

Wonderful views. Easy access to beach.

  • 4 of 5

The house was perfect for up to 2 couples. We loved that we could have our dog with us. We enjoyed the deck, hot tub and outdoor shower. Our only complaint was that we would have liked to have a gas grill.

We had a great stay! The house is charming and the view is just beautiful. Sitting on the deck with our morning coffees watching the waves was a fav! My husband enjoyed surfing every day as well! Very short walk to the beach was perfect for the kids and dog too! Thanks for a lovely week!

Cute little house with great access to the beach!

  • 4 of 5

Adorable property! It was snug but had everything we needed. Only steps from the beach and amazing views. Evenings spent on the porch soaking up the sound of the waves was our favorite restorative.

We stayed dying the 'great power outage of 2017'. The house stayed breezy and nice. We stuck it out as long as we could. The homeowners were gracious and kind when we finally had to evacuate. We would definitely stay here again! Even with the power failure we still had a memorable and lovely vacation.

Great Place!! Great Owners!! A Very Memorable Vacation with a minutes walk to the beach

  • 5 of 5

This was my family's first time visiting the OBX and my wife and I couldn't had been any happier with the place we decided to stay at. I always make a point to read any and all reviews of anything we decide to rent. Having said this, I too will make a point in writing a review that may also benefit the decisions of any future renters. This may not be a "true" oceanfront property but it is oceanfront all the same. After seeing the view from the deck and from the large sectional sofa, we knew then that a "true" oceanfront rental wasn't needed to enjoy the sights and sounds of the ocean. We enjoyed the single level living arrangements with two bedrooms on each side of the cottage being separated with a large open area that included the kitchen and living area. The large kitchen table with seating for eight came in very handy while eating and playing cards and board games. Never an issue having the family together and socializing with the open floor plan. Opening the sliding patio doors on the deck created another living space that included a picnic table along with four Adirondack chairs; two of which were the tall chairs and perfect for sipping an iced tea in the evening or a cup of coffee in the morning. I also need to mention the kitchen was well stocked for everything we needed to cook for. The other member of the family, our dog named "Trigger", enjoyed staying out on the deck taking in the ocean breeze and watching the passers by. The large deck wraps around three sides of the cottage. We brought a sliding gate to block off access to one set of stairs and blocked off the area next to the outdoor hot tub. This created ample room for Trigger to not only enjoy the outdoors but to also enjoy the time we all spent together on the deck. The hot tub was an added bonus as it was enjoyed almost every evening. It was serviced twice during our stay. I should also mention that renting Sunday to Sunday kept us from the rush of traffic we noticed on Saturday the day before our departure. Also, the closest Walmart is approx. 50 min. away but you can find almost anything you need at a Food Lion about 15-20 min. away in Avon. There is also more than enough local eateries to satisfy your hunger after a day at the beach. Our favorite had to be East Coast Cafe because of their hearty portions. Melissa, I just wanted to say that my wife and I want to thank you and your family for making your cottage available for our much needed vacation. We will be returning!
