About Dina Anderson

Darren & Dina met in 2001 when Dina worked as a Flight Attendant for British Midland International (based at London Heathrow) and Darren for Air Canada Jazz Cargo (based in Calgary AB). Having travelled extensively, they knew that Victoria BC was a beautiful place to settle and raise a family. They were blessed with their daughter Brooke in 2004 and converted an used area in their home into a B&B studio so that Dina could be a stay-at-home Mom and others could enjoy this tranquil area of natural beauty with their own temporary home away from home. Their guest book bears testament to the comfort of the studio and the diversity of local attractions. Brookhaven offers the best of British and Canadian hospitality and the privacy to come and go as you please. Brooke is now 11 and loves to show off her 'French immersion' skills with our multi-national guests. The beautiful sea-life nearby has inspired her to be a marine biologist and conservationist in adult life. Darren is employed at Victoria International Airport and Dina works part-time as a Cosmetician at a local Pharmacy.

Dina Anderson purchased this studio in 2004

Why Dina Anderson chose Vancouver Island

This modern home is set in it's own acre of woodland. It has tidal ocean views and is set back in a high location to afford privacy.

We still love to travel so close proximity to the ferry and airport is important. Sidney is a great place to raise a family and the population is mature and friendly. Every season has something special to offer and we feel comfortable and safe here.

What makes this studio unique

Being surrounded by ocean is wonderful. Little remote beaches and walking trails are tucked away to explore. The July 1st Canada & Christmas Parades are spectacular for such a small community. The Thursday Street summer market is also a treat all summer long.

Our home is great in that each part of it has great privacy,

Great studio property, perfect location.

  • 4 of 5

The studio was exactly what we needed for our two night stay, with an early morning ferry. The bed was very comfortable, and the kitchen was well equiped. The outdoor space would have been special for us, if it was not raining, or that we were home. I would hightly recommend Dinas place.

Great place to stay prior to a flight

  • 5 of 5

The owner met us upon our arrival and was very helpful and friendly. She even provided snacks for us to take on our flight the next day. The unit was quite clean and well equipped with a kitchen, comfy bed, tv, and gas fireplace. Great place to stay the night before an early morning flight.

Peaceful Studio

Owner was delightful and very helpful. Lovely little studio which was charming and well stocked with food including homemade bread. I highly recommend this place to all who may seek a simple but comfortable rural getaway.

Owner's Response: We are so glad you enjoyed your stay! Your suggestions for future types of guests are great. We are ideally placed to explore Butchart Gardens (I know you enjoyed the fireworks there!) and walking distance to the Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal for a short ferry hop to check out the many Gulf Islands. Our woodland location but proximity to local hot spots gives our guests the best of both worlds - peaceful and convenient. Our home baked bread is always a favourite too. Hurry back, we'd love to see you again!

Cozy

  • 4 of 5

Dina is a wonderful host. The location is walking distance to a couple of restaurants which was really handy (get directions from Dina because this is tricky to find, it baffled our GPS). Dina's husband called the one we went to and bought us a drink... very thoughtful. Only have one suggestion, Dina stocked the fridge with some things we asked for but there's no way to cook anything except for a microwave. Microwave eggs?? Maybe it's just that we Americans think a "bed and breakfast" means someone is going to make us breakfast. Not so in Canada? Oh well, nice unit, comfy bed, great host.

Owner's Response: I am so glad that you enjoyed one of our 2 walking distance restaurants - The Stonehouse, we love it there too, fabulous food in a lovely setting whether you sit inside or out. We have a business licence from our local Municipality but they do not allow us to have a stove in the kitchen. It's such a shame you didn't check out the cupboards in the studio. In addition to the microwave there is a hot-plate, George Forman Grill, electric frypan, electric egg cooker (for boiled or poached eggs), slow-cooker, toaster and kettle. I appreciate that many people like the luxury of having someone else cook their breakfast. We have found the private studio set up is preferred by many as it gives them the opportunity to eat at a time that suits the individual, and prepare things exactly how they like them. I always ask guests what they would like in their fridge, and our 'small print' does mention that breakfast will be 'self-catered' using the food we have provided. You don't find many traditional B&Bs where you can eat in your jammies at midday and we think that having the option to do this is a plus, not a minus regardless of your country of origin. Our proximity to the Ferry and Airport means that many of our guests either arrive very late or depart very early. Being able to make a coffee and have a slice of toast at 4am is a bonus not offered by many B&Bs. The mini-kitchen is also loved by guests who stay weekly or longer as it cuts down the cost of eating out. Healthy, tasty food can be prepared here with minimal cost, and those with special dietary needs can ensure they can eat well too! Thank you for leaving us a review. I'm happy to hear you enjoyed your stay even without using all our cooking facilities. If you visit us again, you might choose one of our no-cook, fruit & yoghurt or ham & cheese options, for a simple relaxing breakfast. All come with our famous home baked bread!
