A great family vacation

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at Longview. The cottage was cozy and had everything that we needed. She even had dry wood to enjoy the fire pit by the lake! We had no issues with the Wifi at all. We ate every meal outside except for the first night. The view of Cayuga was beautiful and we didn't mind the 2 minute walk across the street - felt safer than right on the water with smaller kids. Marla was extremely welcoming and checked in on us a couple of times to make sure that we had what we needed. Her recommendations were right on point and had a little bit for everyone. The cottage was perfect for our family. Our two younger daughters had a great time playing in the yard, playing on the lake, and going for their first canoe ride. We loved the location. It was incredibly peaceful, with a beautiful view of the lake, and yet close to Ithaca, beautiful water falls and of course, tons of wineries. The walk to Sheldrake Point winery was a lovely surprise. We did not want to leave, and are looking forward to coming back sometime soon!

We enjoyed our stay at Longview!

  • 5 of 5

We love this area of the Finger Lakes and our stay at Longview cottage was relaxing and comfortable. The cottage was clean and equipped with all our immediate needs. The owner was very accommodating and personally checked to make sure everything was satisfactory. We would recommend Longview and would consider staying there again.

Return visit

  • 5 of 5

This was our second trip to Longview and it was every bit as wonderful as our first visit. The view is spectacular! The cottage is very comfortable and has everything you need. The best part however is the people. We have made lifelong friends in the area. Already looking forward to going back.

Great Week at Longview

  • 5 of 5

This was our second summer spending a week at Longview. And once again it was great. Swimming and fires by the lake, vegetables from the farm stand, visits to local wineries, hikes to water falls, bike rides on quiet country roads: This area is perfect for a relaxing week in the Finger Lakes.

Great location

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for a place on Cayuga Lake for our family of four that was close enough to visit Ithaca easily but also in the middle of wine country. This cute little cottage fit the bill. We had a great time taking the canoe and paddle-boat out on the lake, fishing from the dock (with worms easily found along the shore), making a bonfire at night (where you'll see dozens of other ones lighting up around the lake), watching the birds, swimming, and skipping stones (hard to resist with so many flat ones lying around). Everything you need for outdoor fun is there, though we wished we had brought binoculars. The cottage is on Sheldrake Point and so it has a great view of the lake -- and it's an easy walk (less than 10 minutes at a slow pace) to the Sheldrake Point Winery. The road out front has only local traffic, so it is easy to walk or jog every morning. My only complaint is that there was no kitchen table to make family dinners and board/card games more fun (the owner, Marla, is thinking of fixing that). There is an outdoor table and gas grill, but we got quite a bit of late day rain. Not having a table, however, probably got us to go out to dinner more than we might have, which definitely made our trip more fun. Don't miss the Atlas Bowl restaurant and bowling alley in nearby Trumansburg (easily followed by a visit to the Taughannock falls scenic overlook), which might have been the highlight of our trip. There are many wineries worth visiting nearby, several with good restaurants (we liked the food at Knapp winery). And Ithaca is less than a half-hour drive with lots to do. We took advantage of the Ithaca Farmer's market when we first arrived, but eventually we discovered the Wyckoff farmstand which we visited practically every day. Such a perfect location. Read Marla's very thorough guide closely and check out the many maps and pamphlets in the cottage. We had occasional trouble with the internet while we were there, which Marla says is a recent problem that everyone on the Point is experiencing and she hopes it can get resolved. You might ask about that if you'll need constant internet for work. We found the cable TV and HBO kept our attention when we were in the house, and internet access was only occasionally frustrating (while we were mostly glad to get away from it). Overall, a super experience for the whole family.
