About the property

Ideal relaxing family cottage with lake and spectacular views at your doorstep

This family cottage is one of the few rental properties located right on Lake Windermere. It has more than 100 feet of prime lake frontage and is situated on a large treed lot. It is an ideal spot for relaxing with family and friends in a 1600 sq.ft. open-beam cottage with magnificent views across the lake to the Purcell Mountains. The window-lined living room is dominated by a beautiful floor to ceiling fireplace of local stone. The spacious, remodeled kitchen (finished in May) and dining area look out onto the back patio with a full-size barbecue. The cottage sleeps 6 in 3 bedrooms.

The Lake Windermere cottage is an ideal place for water sports. Swimming is easy with steps down to the water or a floating dock attached to the shore. Just next door is a local community beach that is shallow and ideal for children. The cottage has its own buoy for boat owners. The wilderness area close to the cottage is great for hikers and photographers. There are 11 golf courses within an easy drive of the cottage catering to all levels of play.

About Robert and Jean Hage

We grew up in Calgary and love Windermere and the mountains. We have spent a number of years in the Canadian foreign service living in Africa, Europe and the United States but have never missed a summer at Windermere. We have travelled a great deal but have yet to find a place with the spectacular beauty, clean air and fresh water of the Canadian Rockies and Columbia River Valley.

Robert and Jean Hage purchased this cottage in 1963

Why Robert and Jean Hage chose British Columbia

For more than 50 years this cottage has been a place for family gatherings where parents, their children and now grandchildren can gather. It is a place for all ages offering an all seasons retreat with skating and cross country skiing right outside your door on the Lake in winter; a place in summer for games on the lawn, spending time with your children on the near-by sandy beach, swimming or boating and for quiet relaxation or golf in the spring and fall. Having a family dinner on the deck under the maple tree when the weather is warm or in the cottage's spacious dining area is always a favorite activity . The comfortable living room with it's beautiful fireplace is always an attraction next to the newly renovated kitchen with all its amenities.

What makes this cottage unique

A lakeside cottage with views across Windermere to the Purcells is a special vacation spot. We relax, reconnect, and welcome family and friends over casual meals. We love: the nearby hot springs at Radium and Fairmont ; sunning ourselves on the various decks; the hikes in the Bugaboos or Kootenay Park; the wood-oven bread sold at the Farmer's Market; the tea room and exhibitions at the local cultural centre; the friendly town with its grocery stores, gourmet shops, galleries and the best gelato this side of the Rockies. Mostly we love spending time with our family, sitting in front of the fireplace when its cold outside, playing Trivial Pursuit or an old-fashioned game of cribbage. In the summer, a hammock and chaise lounges await you on the lawn. Life is casual, relaxed, and refreshing.

Second Time Staying Here!

  • 5 of 5

This time, I had my daughter, her step sister and my grandson that travelled from New Brunswick. I was so excited to have them stay at this property - truly a gem in BC! They were amazed (obviously) with the mountain scenery, but were extremely impressed with this lakeside property. My grandson is 2 years old and we were able to block off the stairs on the deck to prevent him running into the lake (LOL)! The newly renovated kitchen is an absolute dream! Very comfortable place to stay - recommended for any family!

Quiet Spot

  • 2 of 5

The owners responded promptly with issues. The property is as described. It could have been checked prior to our arrival to ensure all was well...that would have went a long way. Once the issues were resolved, we had a quiet, comfortable stay.

Owner's Response: A miscommunication amongst cleaning staff meant garbage in outside containers was not removed promptly. We have ensured this will not happen again. We are glad your stay was comfortable and peaceful.

Prefect Mountain Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed here over May long weekend, which included classic Canadian May long weekend weather, cold and rainy. The cottage is ideally located on a beautiful large private waterfront lot. The fact that it is a bungalow with only a few steps at the front and rear entrances make it functional for many people. The newly renovated kitchen was very nice along with the recently updated bathroom. The rest of the cottage is dated but very charming, comfortable and cozy. The large living room windows overlooking the lake and mountains making for a wonderful setting. The large fireplace made for a great place to sit around to read, chat and play cards while it rained outside. When the rain stopped we enjoyed swimming (mostly just the kids but I did go in once) right from the front yard, biking/hiking the nearby trials and walks along the lane. The bedrooms where sufficient with the ability to sleep many although not overly private. The beds were comfortable and the location very quiet making for restful sleeps. The owners were very helpful and keen to make sure our stay was prefect. I would highly recommend this cottage for a family looking for a summer holiday.

This is truly a little piece of paradise!

  • 5 of 5

My sister and I along with her kids spent a week at this cottage in August of 2014. It was absolute paradise. The cottage itself is a little dated and only has one bathroom, but has all the amenities needed to relax and soak up the sun. I would highly recommend this cottage to any family for pure relaxation. The views are stunning and the beach is only steps away from the cottage. The sitting area by the lake is amazing!
