About John Clark

Our family roots on the Gulf Coast go back over 300 years. Owner and wife are from New Orleans and Mobile respectively. We currently live in Mandeville, Louisiana, with our five daughters. We initially bought the house in Bay St. Louis for a weekend family getaway, but with the girls growing older and college costs growing even faster, we decided to open our much-loved house to guests. The original 125 year old Creole cottage on our lot was washed away by Hurricane Katrina; only the chimney bricks and cast iron bathtubs remained. The current house was completed in 2009.

John Clark purchased this house in 2009

Why John Clark chose Mississippi

Bay St. Louis is to us a magical place. There is always a sea breeze to be caught on the porch. The nights are so peaceful and quiet, and the stars so clear and bright, that it seems like you are far, far away from civilization. The beach is very accessible (no seawall) and close (about 500 feet). Downtown, with lively restaurants and cute shops, is less than a mile away, so it's the best of both worlds. It's a very family-oriented place, with plenty to do for kids once they're tired of the beach.

What makes this house unique

Very close to beach and downtown Bay St. Louis. Peaceful, open setting.

Feel the Bay breezes all day long

  • 5 of 5

This house has a perfect view of the water and is just steps away from the beach. We could have sat all day long on the porch enjoying the breeze coming off the Bay. The house provided all that we needed although we didn't cook at all, we chose to enjoy all the new restaurants in town! Our kids enjoyed the downstairs hang out area, where there was plenty of space to sit, relax on the two hammocks, color with sidewalk chalk, balls to play with, bikes to ride, outdoor games and best of all you can see the beach from the downstairs. The downstairs/outdoor shower and bathroom were a plus! I highly recommend this house to rent, clean and cozy. We did have a crawling infant with us and there are a lot of knick knacks to be aware of but we spent so much time outside of the house that it really wasn't a problem just something to take note of. We just may be back next summer!

Family friendly fun!

  • 5 of 5

We love the options that this house offers! The kids (3 & 6) had a great time upstairs and outside. The beach was perfect for them and for us. Restaurant choices were great and they were conveniently located. The beach was quiet and allowed for us to roam and play. Not to mention we caught seven blue catfish!

We will definitely look forward to our next trip in Bay St. Louis.

perfect long weekend

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing visit. Everything about the house was perfect. The grandchildren loved the open upstairs and the playroom in the same "area" as the bedroom. they each picked out their beds immediately! the walk to the beach was short enough to go back and forth from the house to the beach if you forgot something or needed multiple trips. we felt like we were on the beach sitting on the porch in the evening or during a rainstorm. It is quiet but accessible to whatever we needed, the store, restaurants, shopping, church etc.. We could not have asked for a more perfect location and perfect house for our beach vacation. This is definitely my happy place.

Perfect vacation spot

  • 5 of 5

We packed this house full! Our group included nine adults, ranging in age from early 20s to late 70s, a five-year-old, a one-year-old, a two-month-old, and one small dog (with permission from the owner and an extra pet deposit paid) and we had a blast! The location is terrific: close to the beach and easy access to Hwy 90 or old town Bay St Louis. We really can't stop raving about how much we enjoyed staying here. Before the first night was over the whole group was talking about coming back again. Favorite spots were on the patio under the house--especially the hammock and outdoor shower--and the wrap-around porch on the main level. The yard is lovely and completely fenced, so no worries about kiddies running into the street. The house is filled with a wonderful collection of art and interesting objects---and the library is impressive and eclectic enough to have something available for every taste. The art project for the kids was a fabulous bonus.

If you haven't been to BSL, we highly recommend it. The beach is great and water is about knee-deep for a very long way out. This is great for a child's first visit to the beach and for those who want to wade. The town itself has a lot of charming and funky businesses to explore. Plus, New Orleans is an easy 45-minute drive--perfect for a day trip or if you want to fly in and out but not stay in the city.

Quit hesitating and book it.
