About Ronald Mickler

My wife and I were both born in St. Augustine. My wife lived on Spanish St. from age one; her grandmother lived in a home on Spanish St when my wife was born. We still own the home of her grandmother and the home my wife grew up in (our daughter's family now live here!). We live on Spanish Street, across the street from where my wife grew up. Ron is a retired educator and Martha is employed by the St. Johns County School Board. We raised two children on Spanish Street and one has returned to raise her family here.

Ronald Mickler purchased this cottage in 1960

Why Ronald Mickler chose Downtown Historic District

The Little San Felipe cottage was constructed circa 1866. It is perfect for a couple and/or a small family, as it is in the very heart of the old city, half a block from the City Gates, two blocks from the old fort, three blocks from the old cathedral, three blocks from Matanzas Bay. The British Night Watch marches past this home every December, an annual event dating back to the British occupation.

What makes this cottage unique

Little San Felipe has parking directly adjacent to the house, on brick pavers. It has a porch for guests to use as they enjoy the horse-drawn carriages parade by, or just view/speak to other visitors as they visit our street. Guests can walk half a block and catch tour trains to see all there is to see of the historic area, then take their time to walk around and explore on their own, at leisure.

Fun and Friendly

  • 5 of 5

The Little San Felipe Cottage is on a quiet street in the heart of the historic district of St. Augustine. Ron and Martha, as well as our lovely neighbors were so helpful in giving us ideas of things to do and where to eat. The cottage itself was perfect for my husband and me. Small, yet roomy enough for us to have our own space. Quiet time and visiting with "passer by's" on the front porch during the day and in the evening was a delight. Highly recommend!!

Best Location in Historic St Augustine!

  • 5 of 5

We loved the Little Filepe Cottage! Location was terrific right in the midst of the historic district in St Augustine! Never moved our car from the on site parking spot! St. George St was a block away! The cottage was well maintained, comfortable and we felt at home. Ron and Martha were wonderful welcoming us and giving us advice on how best to enjoy St. Augustine. Beautiful.neighborhood too. Recommend this to anyone visiting this historic area.

Great place and great location!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was the best! Well appointed, everything you could need all in one place. The front porch was a hit to hangout on at night and we enjoyed the special feeling of staying in a little piece of history. You can park your car and never use it, everything is in walking distance. Ron and his wife are great hosts and have a world of knowledge about St. Augustine. We even had to borrow a tie and some cuff links for a wedding and they were very gracious.☺️We can’t wait to come back, our stay was just wonderful!

Unique Cottage in a Unique City- St. Augustine

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed a three-night stay in the Little San Felipe Cottage on Spanish streets and just a short block west of St. Georges Street - the well worn pedestrian street loaded with shops, restaurants and histoic buildings. We did not move our car for the four days we were in St. Augustine; between walking and the Old Town Trolley there was no need to use our car. Refreshing situation.

The Cottage dates to the late 1800s but is very modern inside -- attractively furnished and well equipped- the owners have created a haven from the afternoon heat and humidity of a Florida summer. Really nothing i can suggest as convenience additions - coffee and filters were on hand along with some kitchen basics.

The city's rich history is just steps away: the Castillo de San Marcos, Flagler Hotel/College, the Visitor Center and by using the Trolley with its 24 stops most of the historic landmarks are a short ride away if not a short walk.

There are only a few accommodations right in the historic district - The San Felipe Cottage is a very unique experience and I thank the owners for making it available for short-term rentals. The cottage was immaculate - thoroughly cleaned and spiffed. Great and best for a couple - there is a sofa/bed but ithe cottage is sized best for two people. Fun to sit on the front porch and speak to the passing parade of people on foot. The owners are nearby and glad to share information on St . Augustine.
