Great house, great location. Property Mgmt, Not Good.
The property is ideal for a friendly get together. It is equipped with a salt water pool and is no more than 100 yards from a beautiful beach. Oak Island is a sleepy beach town which truly provides a sensible location for fun, relaxation, and laughter. The house has four bedrooms and a pull out couch. One bedroom has a smaller twin bed but it will work out just fine, even for an adult.
I want to reiterate that the property was great, but the property management was not. If I were the owner, I would take note of my review and the previous review on VRBO to consider changing management. As a group of professionals, we take our trips and reviews seriously. Therefore, please note our experience below.
1. Upon arriving- our biggest frustrations resulted from a grill. We love to grill out. When we book VRBOs we always look for a grill. Note, this listing states it has a grill - but does not have one on site. Upon calling the mgmt company to confirm the grill was charcoal or gas- the mgmt. company stated there was not a grill on site and it was not their problem. As a mgmt. company you should be aware of third party listings and assets on site.
2. Upon arriving, the company seems extremely frustrated with my request to provide a grill given its listing. Moreover, three individuals within their office came close to yelling at me out of their frustration. This is not how the hospitality industry should be run.
3. Lastly, BBR inc. states that there are limited items on site (toiletries, soap, etc.) and they mean it. Normally, if you stay in a VRBO previous tenants leave these small items behind. It was clear that the cleaning crew had cleaned all of these items out. I would make sure to check in prior to going to grocery store as several things were missing.
4. Lastly, I would reiterate the tone that mgmt took with me over 2 phone calls and an on site visit. While BBR rents the majority of Oak Island- I would make sure to be extremely clear in your agreements, discussions, and be prepared for staff who are not pleasant.
Thank you again to the owner who allowed us to rent a beautiful property and allow us to time to reunite with our friends who are from across the country.
NASTY home, great location!
We arrived around 1:30 am on a Thursday morning. Upon entering the home we found the kitchen to be filthy! Food crumbs on the counters and in the fridge. The floor looked like it had not seen a broom and mop in months. There were actually places in the middle of the walking path were liquids had been spilled and never wiped. The rug under the dining table was covered with crumbs. Second level bath had hairS in the floor. An e-mail and photos were sent to the rental management company at 3:30 am on Thursday morning. Their response was on Thursday morning, 9ish (understandable with my delivery time). They were going to have house keeping call me to come out for another cleaning if necessary. By this time I had swept and mopped the baths, living areas and kitchen; dusted furniture tops and other high traffic areas we may have been in contact with. At the end of our stay I had never heard from house keeping or the management company.
Not only was the house just overall filthy, the home had not had a good cleaning in forever. Window seals, ceiling fan chains, moldings, etc were covered in dust.
On Sunday evening (the end of our stay) the management company emailed me to see if we enjoyed our visit. I let them know how dissatisfied we were and their lack of effort to make the stay pleasurable. They offered a discounted price with our next rental. I will not be staying again with this management company to see if they stand behind this offer.
The pool service sheet said the last service on the pool was 9/11, we began our stay 10 days later. When we left it would have been day 14 and the pool was not serviced. It did appear clean and we did use it. I never informed the management company of this.
Not only did this management company fail me as a consumer, they have also failed their client (the home owner).
After cleaning the home we did have an enjoyable stay on the island!
