Professional business man. I have access to another local summer cottage so we do not need two houses during the summer.
Michael_strube@earthlink.net purchased this cottage in 2012
This is my primary year round home. It is not a party house. It has all of the amenities of a home including a washer & dryer. Pantry with standard stables like spices. pots and pans. Everything you would have at your own home. You just have to buy the food sit back, relax and enjoy the beautiful beaches and charming New England Village.
Located in 2013 Best town or village in Connecticut. Close to shopping but located in village with restaurants, fishing charters, multiple beaches, shops and movie house. 15 miles to both Foxwoods & Mohegan Sun Casino. 3 Ice Cream shops within 1 mile of house. 10 miles to Mystic Seaport and Mystic Aquarium. Local outlet stores. Best of all you do not have to fight Cape Cod traffic. 5 miles off of Interstate 95
I have rented many homes in the Crescent Beach area as did my father before me. This particular house was just up the block from private Crescent Beach and the snack shack. And because it sits up high on a high, you can see Niantic Bay. The house is very comfortable with 3 nice size bedrooms. Two bedrooms each have a queen bed and have air-conditioning and the third bedroom as a pair of twin beds, walk-in closet and a window box fan and a table fan. In total, the house comfortably sleeps 6.
The house has two bathrooms each with a shower/bath, however, the upstairs tub needs repairing so is unusable at the time we rented. There is also a washer and dryer in the first floor bathroom.
The kitchen is small but fully equipped. There is a small pantry filled with everything you might need in the kitchen including a Keurig and toaster. My recommendation would be to clear out some of the lesser important things to make room for dry groceries -- a small challenge. We shifted some things around to make room for our dry goods.
There's a dining area and a very comfortable dining room with a Blu-ray player, nice tv, air-conditioning and good wi-fi. Also, a very large leather L-shaped couch so when we had the cousins over, they all had space to sit and watch a movie.
The backyard is spacious and has an out door shower. There is also a very nice and very large barbecue grill. It came in very handy when we invited my brother and his wife and 3 kids over for dinner which we took turns doing during our 2-week stay. My greatest joy came from the birdfeeder. The house has 2 in the backyard but I only kept one full. I immensely enjoyed watching the birds come to the feeder. We also were pleasantly surprised that there's a groundhog that visits the yard regularly. We've never seen one in the wild so it was quite the treat for us city slickers.
I would rent this property again, if possible. Excellent location, very agreeable and available owner who lives close by and the perfect weather made our stay very, very excellent and we hope to come back.
Our family spent a wonderful long weekend at Michael's home. The dogs loved the fenced in backyard. My kids (18+ years old) loved the beach down the hill and the small town which was a bit of a walk though still only walking distance away. Kitchen was tiny tiny but fully stocked. Michael has great suggestions for restaurants in the area and we grilled most of the time so didn't really need the stove or oven. Only one of the bathrooms was finished as this home is a work in progress. But it was fine for the five of us. Would recommend this cottage for a laid back vacation. I wouldnt suggest families with young children as the stairs are scary and some of the furnishings are delicate. We, however, had a wonderful relaxing long weekend and can't wait to go back next year for longer.
