Mountain View Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Romantic and Spacious Cabin for two to four guests on South Sylamore Creek

CHECK OUT OUR SUMMER SPECIAL! Beginning April 1, weeknights are just $55. (Two night minimum and cleaning and pet charges apply)

We invite you to enjoy our quaint cottage with a spacious brand new bedroom with a comfy queen bed that looks out on the meadow. The kitchen is fully appointed with a stove, microwave, refrigerator and dishwasher. There is a washer and dryer combo for your convenience. For dining there is a bar with seating for four. In the living room area we have two chairs and a very comfortable sleeper futon with inner springs mattress. There is a tv that picks up local channels with a DVD player. On the deck are two adirondak chairs to relax in and a gas grill for your outdoor cooking.

Located just 15 minutes from the Stone County Courthouse square, the cabin is the ideal, secluded hideaway. Your own private waterfront access to South Sylamore creek makes this the perfect place to angle for panfish, soak in the water, or just relax on the bank. Hike and explore the five acres of mountain and meadow where you can spot wild turkey, deer and even an occasional bald eagle. Or just kick back and enjoy the hummingbirds and meadowlarks.

The cabin is located about a hundred yards in front of the creek (above the flood level). It is a gentle slope across the meadow down to the creek. Depending on the water level, you will then walk down a short bluff to get to the water's edge. During most of the year the creek side is a wide pebble beach. After heavy rains, the creek can get very deep and very fast, but most of the year it will be waist to thigh deep with a moderately fast current. Floaties are a lot of fun! There are fish in the creek (as well as minnows and crawdads) but they are smaller pan fish such as blue gill and pumpkin seeds, and some small sized small mouth bass. Fishing will be fun but usually not large enough for eating.

Regarding internet at the cabin, the only internet service available to the property is very expensive and of poor quality. What we have done is installed a high end cell booster. If you have a smart phone and are able to use it as a “hot spot”, you can access the internet that way. We have found that we are able to stream video as well as any other internet activities that we need to do using this method. You might want to check your usage agreement with your cell service provider to see if there would be any additional charges.

The only thing you will need is your food and drinks, and maybe extra ice. Our water is well water and very safe for drinking, but some people think it has a taste, so you may want to bring bottled water. When you arrive you will find a modest supply of trash bags, toilet tissue, laundry and dish soap, hand soap and shampoo to get you started. For most guests, it is adequate for their stay.

Some things you may wish to bring are insect repellent (it is the boonies), beach towels for the creek (we ask that you don't take our guest towels down to the creek) and folding lawn chairs for the creek. (We have a few chairs on the porch but we ask that you don't take them to the creek. They WILL get washed away from a rain.) You will want water shoes or sandals for the creek as well as the rocks can be hard on your feet. If you have any other questions, please feel free to text or call at 501 380 5254. If I am working, I cannot respond to email, but I can usually respond to a text or call fairly quickly.

People often ask us about the area around our cottage. It is fairly secluded but not completely by itself. We own two adjacent five acre lots in the creek valley. On one the cottage is located. On the adjacent lot, we have a three bedroom house that has a small separate guest room. The three bedroom cabin is located about 200 feet from the cottage and it's porch is on the opposite side facing away from the cottage to maximize privacy. The lots on either side of ours are currently vacant. Over the hill from the three bedroom cabin is a large home you can see the roof of. These neighbors do not live there year round. The trip in from town is good highway until the last mile and half, which is a county maintained sturdy gravel road. The last half mile is fairly steep. We get in and out easily in our minivan. Getting stuck in the mud is not an issue. The only problems concerning access is in the winter months in the event of ice, you would not be able to get in or out. If we have an ice storm, you will receive a full refund.

About Vicki Wicker

My husband and I reside in Searcy, Arkansas. My husband is nurse supervisor at White County Medical Center and I teach art and psychology at the Heber Springs campus of Arkansas State University. We have lived in the area over 20 years. We have visited and enjoyed Mountain View since our youth and are thrilled to now have a vacation home there and glad we are able to share it with others.

Vicki Wicker purchased this cabin in 2015

Why Vicki Wicker chose Arkansas

We had a dream of owning a property in Stone County for years. We looked at many places, but when we drove down the hill and turned into the meadow where our cabin now sits, I told my husband, "This is it!". We felt like this spot on South Sylamore gave us the scenery and seclusion we wanted with enough water for the children to have a plenty of fun, but at the same time, not so deep as to have to be on edge about their safety.

What makes this cabin unique

We see wildlife every time we stay. We see deer almost every visit. During the right seasons, wild turkey visit the meadow in front of the creek. Occasionally we spot the bald eagles. I've seen a great variety of birds including blue birds, indigo buntings, gold finches, house finches, humming birds, meadow larks, and hawks.

Perfect stress-free getaway!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent a few nights here for our 15th anniversary. It was relaxing, stress-free and absolute perfect solitude from day-to-day normalcy.

Back to work the next week, I felt very chill and happy.

This is a great break - and affordable. I'd take this few days a year over a week in a busy city anytime.

Priceless Family Time at Cozy Cabin

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I took our 8 year old son and 5 year old daughter to the cabin to get away from the day to day demands of life. We all had a wonderful time and waded in the creek, enjoyed S'mores, played board games and visited on the porch in the moonlight. We also had a wonderful time at the Ozark Folk Center - always a favorite!

This cabin perfectly balances modern conveniences with a rustic cabin feel. It was clean and nicely furnished. The creek is ~100 yards away in a idyllic meadow surrounded by trees and mountain views. 1 bedroom with an airy feel given the small footprint. The bed and couch/futon are comfy, the kitchen is nicely appointed, bathroom is functional and the surroundings are charming. There's a small deck with charcoal and propane grill.

The directions to the property were specific and the drive lets you see active cattle and grass farms. The meadow was a bit grown up with swaths mowed to provide access to the creek. This is a remote, country setting that has nature at your doorstep. We absolutely loved it and wish we could spend every weekend at the cabin. Very restorative.

Perfect, relaxing getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from our three night stay in the cottage, and it far exceeded our expectations! Vicki was quick to respond to our questions and was helpful in providing information when I asked. The location is great, and we had no trouble getting our car up and down the steep road leading to the house. (and we were in a Mustang!) The cottage is darling and had almost everything we needed for our stay. We just brought some additional cooking utensils, camp chairs, and movies for the DVD player. The setting is beautiful, and we spent most of our time by the lovely creek. We caught a few (small) fish, and our son and dog had a great time swimming. Every night we had a campfire by the creek and enjoyed cooking s'mores and looking at the stars. The bed and futon were both comfortable, and we enjoyed lounging around and watching movies in our downtime. The house is close to the neighboring rental property, but we hardly saw the guests next door. It was great having privacy and the creek all to ourselves. We made it to Blanchard Springs Cavern to hike and for a cave tour. (Do the headlamp tour. It was awesome!) We also walked around downtown Mountain View and took a trip out to Gravity BrewWorks for a few growlers of beer. We hope to make it back sometime to spend more time in the cottage. As our son said, "It was AWESOME!"

Peaceful, beautiful property!

  • 5 of 5

Stayed here last year and liked it so much we brought the whole family back with us. Our youngest son and his wife stayed in this cabin and the rest of stayed in the larger cabin on the property. Would recommend this for any family or just a couple wanting some down time. Beautiful setting.

Comfortable cottage but location and access may be a little daunting to some folks

  • 4 of 5

The location and travel to the cottage may be a little daunting to some folks, especially if there have been heavy rains. The detailed instructions to travel to the cottage the owner provides are very straightforward but the road after the pavement ends is very steep and was passable even with all the rain during the week of 8/14/2016-8/20/2016. It is very slow going as the road is very rutted and rough. If you are pulling a trailer make sure you load is very secure.

The cottage is very homey and would sleep 4 people comfortably. The couch in the living room is a very comfortable futon and then there is a nice double bed in the bedroom. If you are bringing clothes on hangers you will have to figure out what to do with them because there is no closet or chest of drawers in the bedroom. There are small nightstands on either side of the bed that may hold some items. We lived out of our suitcases for almost a week.

The kitchen has a coffee pot, toaster, small skillets, crockpot, and dishware. I took a large skillet and baking sheet. If you plan to cook you will need to bring your own spices and condiments, coffee, etc. I also recommend bringing extra paper towel, toilet tissue, foil and freezer bags. I always fill a tote with those type items then I don't have to buy them.

There are the standard appliances of stove, full size refrigerator, dishwasher, and washer/dryer combo.

This cottage is set in the valley of small mountains and is a short walk through the field on a path cut through the meadow. Be aware of your surroundings as there are the usual inhabitants of this type of environment. Unfortunately we were not able to float in the creek due to heavy rains and the water was churned up but did walk down to the creek area. It is a slight incline to the creek bed but easily navigated. Definitely wear water shoes or something comparable as it is very rocky.

Wal-Mart is a short drive back in to town. Be sure to shop the downtown area. Blanchard Springs was closed due to weather but it is worth seeing too. Jo-Jo's or Anglers for dining out and the Mexican restaurant downtown is another good choice.

We would stay here again but only if we aren't pulling a trailer with one of our motorcycles. The road would not be passable on a bike without great risk of dumping the bike. We ended up renting a storage unit in town for the week and leaving the bike there.

The owner responds fairly quickly to e-mails and texts.
