About stan tucker

We have been enjoying Southern Colorado for many years, so decided the time was right to 'bite the bullet' and buy our own place. After scouting homes all over the valley, in Creede, Lake City, and Southfork, we found our piece of heaven on a mountain south of Del Norte. Yes, the town is wonderful, and our property is beautiful, but it was the people of the town that ultimately swayed our decision. We feel this was the place we were destined to be.

Originally from Stillwater, Oklahoma and Fort Worth, Texas, we are glad to call Southern Colorado our second home.

We love getting to know new and interesting people, and look forward to welcoming you to 'Belmont Del Norte'!

stan tucker purchased this house in 2014

Why stan tucker chose Del Norte

After four days of looking at many traditional homes, Our realtor kept suggesting that we look at this "unique" property!" Being a straw bale, solar, contemporary home. . . . . we did not think it would be for us. Luckily, we had a very stubborn realtor and we finally said, "let's just look and make her happy"! What a great decision that was. Driving up to the property, we were sold! The home is unique, being adobe/stucco , with contemporary styling, reminding one of Northern New Mexico. Built by a master builder in 2008, and designed by his artist wife, it is truly a work of art.

Yes, the home is beautiful, but the land is what we ultimately fell in love with. Majestic rock formation tower over you, as you hike or snow-shoe. While there is plenty of room to roam on our own property, we are surrounded by thousands of acres belonging to the BLM and National Forest Service. Hundreds of miles of trails for hiking, snow-shoeing, cross-country skiing or riding your ATM or snow-mobile are accessible from the property.

What makes this house unique

Besides the beauty of the home and the land upon which it sits, 'Belmont del Norte' is the perfect house for entertaining. The fully equipped kitchen has a huge island for seating of least 6, and the dining room table has room for 12. With the large living room (with the fireplace and hearth) and the den (with the box-style heating stove), there is room to spare..

Guestbook comments from the owner

Stan was the most gracious host who answered all our questions both prior and during our stay. The house is a dramatic, beautiful piece of art by itself and filled with interesting objects collected but the owners --- but the real show-stopper is the view out the huge windows, which changes with every hour of the day! Our group of 8 hiking buddies had plenty of room with beds for each of us. The location was perfect for us to explore both the Sangre de Christo range and the the San Juans surrounding Wolf Creek Pass. The surprise was how beautiful Middle Creek Trail was, just down the road from the house. The house the the PERFECT base for a great week of hiking and soaking in the nearby hot springs. BRAVO!!! We hope to come back soon.

While there is plenty to do at 'Belmont Del Norte', the property is also surrounded by so many attractions, you will be hard-pressed to find time to discover them all. An hour east, discover the majesty of the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve and the nearby Zapata Falls. The town of South Fork is 15 miles west of Del Norte, and offers world-class fishing on the Rio Grande River. Another 15 miles west lies the historic mining town of Creede, home of great shops, restaurants and the world-famous Creede Reporatory Theatre. Eighteen miles south of South Fork, with Colorado's most snowfall, Wolf Creek Resort awaits downhill and cross-country skiers. After a long day of skiing, relax in the many hot springs in nearby Pagosa Springs.

The town of Del Norte is a short 5 mile drive. Guests can shop for groceries at Jack's Market, gifts and baked goods at the Mennonite-owned Columbine, spirits at Wild West Liquors, and old treasures at several antique shops. Great food can be had at Boogies, Country Inn, Three Barrel Brewery and the Windsor Hotel.

We love the town, and its proximity to other areas. Within a couple of hours, you can visit Durango (which has the Silverton Railroad), Pagosa Springs, Salida, Lake City, the historic town of San Luis (c.1851), the Wheeler Geologic Area (formed by caldera eruptions 25 million years ago) , Creede (with mining history and museums) and several small villages. Taos is 2.3 hours away and Santa Fe only a 3 hour drive.

True Getaway

Beautiful home. Very well stocked. Has all the commodities necessary and more. As soon as you arrive makes you feel right at home.

It's about a 15 minute drive off the Main Street in Del Norte. But well worth the drive. Amazing views. Got to see deer almost every day. Will definetily reccomend this place if ever in the area. The home owner is very helpful, thanks again Stan for sharing your beautiful home.

Incredible Hosts, House, Hikes and Views

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing spring break stay and the Belmont Del Norte. Stan and Micheal were amazing hosts and thought of everything to make their home comfortable and inviting to guests. I cannot say enough about the views and surrounding area, we spent many hours hiking around the property catching glimpses of all sorts of wildlife. The majority of our trip was spent skiing at Wolf Creek, don't let the drive deter you, it was a pleasant drive to the resort that allowed us the opportunity to watch the sin rise every morning over the mountains. We would highly recommend stay here and are eager to go back!

Nicest place I have ever stayed.

  • 5 of 5

Very beautiful house with everything you could need. Owners were very helpful. Been skiiing wolf creek for 6 or 7 years and this is by far one of the nicest places I have stayed. I was worried about it being far from the mountain but it seemed to take just as long as from pagosa. Plenty of room for everyone. Great views.

WOW....Was this ever a treat! House is AMAZING!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed this absolutely beautiful home for a week over Christmas and it was perfect from start to finish. The home is so spacious and so welcoming. The owners had the whole home decorated for Christmas with even a cactus filled with ornaments as the Christmas tree! There were stockings hung on the fireplace mantle with lots of goodies inside for each of the 8 of us. The stockings even had each person's name on them. Wow - now that is attention to detail of the kindest sort! Stan was so attentive to our every need and checked in with us to make sure we were happy, warm and enjoying ourselves. The home was in perfect condition and the kitchen had everything we could possibly need for our week's stay. We enjoyed the Windsor Hotel dining room for Christmas dinner, cross country skied at Big Meadows, down-hill skied at Wolf Creek, did a horse drawn sleigh ride to a candlelight cabin dinner outside of Pagosa Springs, played TONS of family games, walked the beautiful property, had lots of cozy fires in the two fireplaces, slept peacefully and enjoyed every minute of our stay. This is a place that everyone should experience. HIGHLY RECOMMEND !! Hopefully we can come back in the summer to enjoy this beautiful home during another season. Thank you, Stan and Mike!

Beautiful house and property

  • 5 of 5

The house was beautiful. We had a great experience and it was convenient to the entire San Luis Valley. Lots to do in the area. The owners shared numerous things to do in the area. The property was very secluded and had great views. The owners were great and very responsive to our needs. We will book this house again!

Beautiful, Peaceful and Very Private Escape

  • 5 of 5

This home was perfect for our mini family reunion. We were coming from the Denver and Albuquerque areas and this home was just about in the middle. The home is completely private, located on a long driveway after several miles of private dirt roads. We did not hear or see any neighbors or other people in our 3 night visit. We were able to relax and enjoy one another's company exactly as we had planned.

The house is in excellent condition with quality appliances and furnishings throughout. The beds and baths are all well designed and on the larger side with plenty of room for luggage. There are several common areas with nice seating that are great for relaxing and visiting. The kitchen is also very nice with plenty of room for several people to work on meal preparation and cleanup. The view out the kitchen window is a fantastic one out across the San Luis Valley.

The home also has a very nice, large outdoor fire pit with plenty of nice, dry firewood. A neat feature is that the home is "off grid" meaning that it is not connected to an electric utility. Solar panels and a generator provide all electric power. The system is a quality one that easily met all our needs.

Finally, Stan, the owner, was fantastic to deal with. He was very prompt and professional in all my interactions with him. I found him to be very reasonable and genuinely concerned about making our stay a great one. I highly recommend your consideration of this home for your stay in the Del Norte area!
