Bugs, tall grass, etc.
this was a nice trip to get away from everyone, it is very secluded. The hot tub was great even though we called to tell the owners that the jets on the hot tub did not work, nothing was ever done about it (They supposedly called a repair man) The cabin fit six of us very comfortably. The cabin was for the most part clean other than places here and there. The absolute worst part of the cabin is all of the bugs. There were roaches, spiders, moths , etc. EVERYWHERE. Something needs to be done about it. There were spiders in all of the bedrooms, in the beds, in the bathtubs, etc. and along with all the bugs, the grass was taller than I am. Aside from all of the bad, we did enjoy the tv and DVD player several nights after we all got done eating dinner. This is a nice cabin but could be a lot nicer if someone would put some time into it before guests arrived.
Cabin needs to be clean, there were bugs and insects inside the house, around the furniture and the bed. The outside needs maintenance (yard, back porch, front porch). The only room that was clean and bearable was the basement. Great rate though. The cabin has potential but just needs maintenance.
Dated Cabin, but the hot tub is superb
I'm giving this place 3 stars only because the hot tub is fantastic. It's very roomy and 6 adults fit comfortably in it. We brought a projector and set up a movies inside the covered porch and sat around in the hot tub hanging and watching comedies at night. Super fun.
Bonus points for a bathroom attached to each bedroom.
Bonus points for a pool table.
Bonus points for a dartboard. Minus points because there were no darts.
The house itself leaves a bit to be desired. When we walked in, it smelled overwhelmingly of moth balls. We opened windows to air it out and several of the windows didn't have screens. The upstairs bedroom/loft has a tendency to get stuffy, even with the air on. When you get up there, you might be tempted to open the window, if you're not blinded by the pink and purple decor first, but alas there's no screen. And even if there was, you probably wouldn't want to inhale the fumes from the massive pile of bat guano on the roof directly outside the window.
The back deck is nice, although it's in need of sanding and refinishing. I wouldn't recommend bringing a baby here unless you're down with pulling splinters from their hands and knees as they crawl around. The indoor fireplace seems nice although we didn't use it. The kitchen is a bit cluttered with many mismatched dishes and cookware. We washed everything before using it because it seemed a little grimy. There's a lovely armoire (bar?) in the dining area but it is stuffed full of knick-knacks so it's unusable. The carpeting going upstairs and to the basement was very dated. There was a helium balloon tangled in the living room ceiling fan that made a thumping noise that was not the kind of white noise I enjoy while trying to sleep.
The listing advertises an outdoor firepit, and there WAS one, but the yard is at such a steep pitch that sitting around the fire would probably require deft balance and a strong core so you wouldn't tip over and roll down the hill. The grass was also about 2 feet high, and there was a burn barrel with bits of plastic and trash around it in the backyard as well. We passed on the yard/firepit.
Hiawassee is a beautiful area with lots of outdoor activities, so if you're looking for somewhere to lay your head at night and nothing more, this cabin works, but overall it's just in need of a major renovation/overhaul to update it and clean it up.
this property was very secluded so nice to be able to get a way. Overall the house was as shown. Seems like some remodeling was in process but nothing major on the inside. Outside yard and screen porch has a lot of waste and supplies all over that detracted from the property. Just needs to be straightened up a little prior to renters coming in. Was close enough to downtown to be easy to run to the store. One irritant was the propane on the grill was empty - which I found out when I was ready to cook. Had to change dinner plans. Need an extra tank in place for this purpose. The hot tub was not hot when we arrived so that took some time to warm up to be able to use. Again, would have been nice if that was already taken care of.
Nice cabin but not the cleanest.
We really enjoyed our stay here. The cabin was cozy and accommodating but was messy in the yard and on back porch where the hot tub area due to recent remodeling (materials and debris were scattered). The area was nice and we even got a little snow during our stay.
We had a goodtime
House could have been cleaned better. Thick syrup from something in fridge on shelf under couch omg terrible all kinds of trash, just raise the recliner and hair was on numerous items. Overall we had a good time with fireplace, hot tub, and pool table. House was stocked well for what we needed. Would come back just suggest better housekeeper.
