Peaceful home

  • 4 of 5

We stayed 3 weeks in Patricks house. It's a very peaceful and quiet piece of land in Costa Rica. The pool is enjoyable but not heated. The house itself is very generous and clean. Our children enjoyed the huge selection of DVD.

The location of the house on the Highway #1 is really good.

We really enjoyed the climate witch is always between 20 - 24 degrees Celcius and its a little cooler at night. We would recommend to stock up the kitchen utensils! We were 5 and had only 4 spoons!

All in all it's a very quiet, peaceful place.

Owner's Response: Silke....Thanks so much for your kind words. We are so glad that you enjoyed the home. It is a piece of natural paradise, and the home is a perfect layout for a family. The weather at the house is almost always perfect, making it ideal for visitors looking to enjoy Costa Rica. We will get more flatware in the kitchen pronto! We had no idea that we were missing items. We'll take care of it right away. Hope to host you again soon! All the best...Patrick

Beautiful home

  • 5 of 5

This was an awesome place, but the wifi was as slow and cumbersome as the toucans that flew through the back yard and the lizard that lived in the hole under the tree. The sound of the river (creek) out back was lovely. The tropical kingbird and the kiskadees greeted us each morning, and wrens played and chatted with each other on the patio. The security gate man was Johnny-on-the-spot each time.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for your comments. We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay at our beautiful villa. The birdwatching is amazing...so glad that you were able to enjoy it. Internet speed in the outlying areas of Costa Rica is a challenge. Thankfully several nearby restaurants/cafes/hotels have much better service, which our guest are able to use. We hope you'll come back to Costa Rica again soon.

Beautiful Home & Surroundings

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in Patrick's house for 5 days and couldn't have been more pleased. The house is very private and welcoming. The interior and decor is amazing. Beds were very comfortable. There are a few quirks with dishwasher and icemaker but to be in paradise one does not care. Ronald (the property manager) was very attentive and responded very quickly to any of our needs. We will definitely be going back! :) Thanks again for a wonderful stay.

Private & quiet oasis

  • 5 of 5

On arrival all was well. But then the ice maker nor dishwasher would work. Ronald, the caretaker, immediately responded & a maintenance person was there the next morning. Be aware: you must slam(within reason) the dishwasher door for it to work - closing it firmly will not do it. But after that we still had to unplug the dishwasher (under sink by disposal switch)to reset it each use & intermittently do the same when the ice maker froze up-(fan gets VERY loud), took a day or two to make a bucket of ice, suggest buying a bag & bringing- (not a major worry in paradise). The pool area is magnificent & surrounded by lush jungle, birdwatching great (toucans one a.m.), & a short walk down the path (stream unnavigable& you must cross a cement dam) to a stifling high waterfall-beautiful! Dish & laundry detergent, hairdryer, & 3 full size coolers were all in the home (unexpected),papertowels, paperplates, & napkins were not. Pool was cool but we were glad we did not have it heated, felt great in the midday sun. We left all the screened windows open with the ceiling fans it kept the house a very comfortable breezy temp. We rented a car & made 3 daytrips-Quepos/Manuel Antonio (3 hr.drive ea.way), Poas Volcano/LaPaz Waterfall Gardens (2 hr.drive ea.way), & Arenal Volcano Hanging Bridges(2 1/2 hr.drive ea.way)-be aware driving is slow & tedious-mountainous & curvy with slow local traffic/pedestrians, knowing this ahead & simply accepting such make exploring this awesome country much more pleasurable. On our last day the maids showed up at 8:20 a.m.-minor glitch as our flight was at 1:45 p.m.& check out is 11 a.m.-we made the caretaker aware & hopefully this will not happen to other guests. With poor spanish skills our communication attempt with the maids for a later return lacked, they started cleaning upstairs while we showered downstairs & made an early departure. PS: The outdoor shower was great! We would recommend this home to anyone.

Howler House was a fantastic place to stay to experience Costa Rica

  • 5 of 5

We loved the Howler House. A 4 x 4 is a must for the journey up the mountain to the house, but it came in handy for most of the roads in Costa Rica. The location was fantastic. Uvita is a small town, mostly locals (not touristy) with two nearby grocery stores and lots of restaurants, as well as local sodas (Tico street food vendors) a few souvenir shops, as well as other small shops. This is the real Costa Rica. The trip down the mountain from the Howler House into Uvita took us about ten - fifteen minutes. Once in Uvita, the numerous uncrowded beautiful beaches were within a 5 - 15 minute drive.

The open air concept of the house was fabulous. The air conditioning in the bedrooms was ideal at night when we wanted to cool down - and I must say these air condition units were the quietest, most effective ones I have come across! The pool area was ideal for our 3 active boys ages 7, 10, and 12. Even after being at the beach most days they wouldn't miss early mornings AND evenings in the pool.

I have to say my favorite thing about the house would be the front porch. The view is beyond amazing - pictures really do not capture the beauty of the surrounding rain forest in front of the ocean and the infamous whale's tail . So much nature!!! Toucans, hummingbirds, huge butterflies, geckos, and of course, the sounds of howler monkeys. The outdoor furniture was so comfortable and clean. I felt in heaven there.

Owner's Response: Thank you for this review...but you must have our home confused with another property. Our home is located in Rosario de Naranjo, near Grecia and Atenas. Our home is not located in Uvita. Nor is our home called Howler House. While this property sounds lovely, this is not a review of our home, but a review of another property.
