Why Mark Goldstein chose Broadkill Beach
We fell in love with this property the day we saw it. We have ever since celebrated many holidays, anniversaries, birthdays and other wonderful family time. Fig trees, fruit trees, blueberries, raspberries dot the property. There is also a cook's herb garden out the back door. Just a day or two at our home will convince you that this unique property is a place to come back to time and again. Whether it is the beach, the porches, the nearby restaurants, long bike rides, kayaking, the golf course, the nature preserves - there is something here for everyone.
What makes this House unique
Broadkill beach is a hidden gem on the eastern shore, a quiet residential community with friendly neighbors, a private beach just for residents and guests, full of families, dogs, bonfires and other great summer activities. It is quiet, relaxing and private, yet just a few minutes away from the popular towns of Lewes, Milton, and Rehoboth. This way you get it both ways - a quiet relaxing beach and lots of nearby restaurants and stores.

Renter Beware: All that glitters is not gold
We rented the house for a long weekend as three mothers with one or two children each. All I can say is that we had a good time DESPITE the rental. We had hoped to make this location an annual event, but after the experience of staying there and the interactions with the owner will certainly not do so.
The hot tub is listed as an amenity. It turns out that the hot tub is not in working order. The owner was vaguely apologetic, but did not remedy the situation nor offer a partial refund for the inconvenience. More importantly, the owner clearly had notice of problems with the hot tub since previous renters complained about the same problem. The hot tub was not operational, yet the owner listed and rented the house to us still listing a functioning hot tub.
Furthermore, the description of the house is misleading. While “cozy” is a subjective term, the house is certainly not “secluded” but rather in the middle of a development.
Likewise, the house most certainly does not sleep 12 as announced, at least not in proper beds. We were a party of 8 and had trouble finding enough appropriate beds/couches. That is particularly true since the bunk beds in the basement were neither stable nor safe to have our children sleep in them.
Lastly, if the owner decides to rent without providing towels or sheets, that announcement should feature prominently since it is rather the exception than the rule. We had one party fly in and bringing sheets and towels by plane would clearly have been a dealbreaker.
On a positive note, the house is close to the beach and the kitchen is cook-friendly.
However, the owners behavior was generally dismissive and inconsiderate. Needless to say that we will not be back and cannot recommend.
Gosh, we are very sorry that this guest had a bad experience. We have rented our house to more than 300 people and this is the first time we have had a negative review. With respect to the hot tub, our maintenance company told us the day this guest arrived that the it was not working. This was unfortunate, as we know our guests really enjoy this amenity. However, in a marine environment infrastructure erodes faster than elsewhere and we have done our best to keep all of our property in good shape. For the record, the guest is not correct: the hot tub was working fine in the weeks prior to her arrival. With regard to sheets and towels, we are not sure what to say: our website has always been clear about what guests need to bring and our approach is very common to the VRBO community. After 300 or more guests, only a half dozen or so have ever asked for clarification. This is the first guest who did not understand the situation. We are sorry things did not work out for this guest and we wish her well.
Beautiful home, close to beach!
Fantastic for Our family. Broadkill beach is beautiful!
We had a fall weekend here and the house is very, very nice - especially the upper two floors. The kitchen and baths were modern and clean. Unlike many rentals we've experienced, there was plenty of empty cupboard space in the kitchen for our own food, etc. We really enjoyed the gas (I think) fireplace and dinners and games at the large kitchen table. We put the teenagers in the less desirable ground floor bedroom - but they didn't complain! Being the end of the season, the outside was a little overgrown and getting four SUVs in the driveway was not quite doable but we parked one on the street, no problem. A caution, though, if you have an old dog - ours had trouble handling the many uncarpeted steps in the house! All in all, it's a great rental in a great location.
Garbage on curb was not picked up and hot tub was broken.
House was great- location was perfect, but garbage was overflowing from not being picked up and the hot tub had an error message and never worked.
Spacious and comfortable home for a large group!
Mark saved our vacation! He helped us book our trip quickly at the last minute (a hurricane changed our plans) and was so accommodating with all of the information we needed upfront. This house is comfortable, spacious, and modern. The downstairs screened in porch is gorgeous, and the outdoor shower was beautiful as well. Our children happily played, napped, and ran back and forth between the beach and the house over and over. We couldn't be happier with our stay, and plan to return soon!
Overall the property was very nice. It does need a little TLC at the end of the summer season. The bath tub on the main floor drains incredibly slow, the cushions on the deck furniture are torn and worn, cushions in living room stained, and there is no herb garden in the back yard. House was clean with a great kitchen.
The property is in a quiet residential area nestled between a federal wildlife preserve and principal eastern shore bird sanctuary and sits just 400 feet from the beach. The beach is a private beach for residents and guests, and a great place for dogs, bonfires, families, fishing etc., as it has few of the restrictions in place at major public beaches in the area. Broadkill beach is 5 minutes from the waterfowl marsh and wildlife preserve, 10 minutes from downtown Milton and Lewes, and 20 minutes form downtown Rehoboth - great places to head for dinner or nightlife but close enough to return to the quiet of Broadkill!
