Charming but rough!
I liked the camp. It's very rough but in a charming sort of way. The photos provide a good indication of what you're getting. It does sleep a lot of people and it is fairly close to the beach. It had a vaulted living room/kitchen ceiling which gave it a "roomy" feel.
Some things you should be aware of: First, the decks overlooking the Gulf are separate from the house; there are 3 decks and the first has a table but no chairs (so you need to bring some - there are no portable chairs); the second deck has a table and some chairs, and the third deck has a couple of old broken folding chairs but no table. Second, there are maintenance issues - one toilet didn't work (which can be an issue if you have a lot of people), mold on shower curtains, and a number of lighting issues which was the most frustrating problem. Lights either didn't work or there were no bulbs, or it was difficult turning them on because they were strung together haphazardly with several cords and electrical strips. Light switches also were located in rooms other than the lights they controlled. The overhead lights in the kitchen never did work so cooking dinner was a challenge. Third, there are no tables in the living room area of the camp and the couches have seen better days. There's a huge picnic style table to eat on which was great, but no other tables and I found only "one" fry pan (it was a good one). Finally, the A/C was provided by individual units in all rooms - the living/kitchen area had window units which didn't keep up and were very loud, but the bedroom units were a lot better and provided very good cooling. There were ceiling fans also, but again, it was a hunt to find the switch.
The area under the camp is paved, which is great! The fish cleaning station under the camp is ample and convenient. There are good hoses. However, we couldn't find the light switches for the under-camp lighting if there were any (again, a lighting issue). Bring your own barbecue unit because there is none. There's a big front porch, which is nice, but no table or chairs. There is no driveway, so we just parked on the grass.
The owner's response to all questions was quick which I liked and she was very accommodating. Would I rent it again? Yes, if I had a lot of people. It's too expensive, though, for just 4 people. Overall, we had a very good time there.
Charming camp, but needs a thorough cleaning
The camp has character and is in a great location, but was a bit dirty. The master bathroom had mold in the shower. The outdoor sinks, shower, and bathroom did not work. Nicely equipped kitchen and large picnic style dining table for large family meals.
Plenty of room to spread out. Right on the beach. Well-equipped kitchen. Clean - did not see a bug. Everything we wanted for a family gathering.
Top notch venue for a multi-family vacation
Our second stay at Cancoon did not disappoint. Great access to the beach and plenty of room for lots of people. The three tier deck is fantastic! We will be back.
What a great place for our annual fishing trip!! This place has serious character, awesome views and plenty of space. We thouroughly enjoyed our stay and everyone gave it a 100% for a return stay. The owner was accessible within moments of call or text and very informative. Thanks for a great stay Julia.
