Lovely setting, beautiful home
My husband and I brought our mothers up for several days and we had a lovely time. We spent a lot of time on the back porch enjoying the different views of the water. I even caught a couple of sunrises! The house was nicely appointed, with the exception of a coffee pot. We are all serious coffee drinkers! However I rectified by purchasing a pot which will hopefully stay with the house for future renters. The house was spotless when we arrived and located less than a mile walk to town. Also nice that there is a biking/walking trail right across the street. Everyone was very happy! Thank you.
Lovely house - fruit fly problem
We had 7 moms up for a well needed girl's weekend. We had a wonderful time. Beautiful view of Sutton's Bay. Great location. Well stocked supplies. Very close to local wineries and town. The only issue we had was the horrible fruit fly problem. When we walked in the ceiling was covered and skylights were filled. We had to keep all food away, wine glasses covered with napkins so we didn't get 'floaties', and had to buy additional apple cider vinegar to collect our friends. If it wasn't for this issue the house would have been perfect!
Great place and view. Too bad there were so many fruit flies and gnats
Beautiful home and good beach area
Did someone say fruit flies?
I'm really bummed about this because the location is perfect, the views are beautiful and access to things like kayaks and a fire pit are really nice. If not for the fruit fly issue, we would have definitely returned.
Unfortunately this really put a damper on our trip. It's apparently fruit fly season in northern Michigan and we didn't get the memo. I wish we had. We probably wouldn't have gone. There's a hefty cleaning fee for this property and we were just there two nights so I expected something immaculate. It unfortunately wasn't and the worst part was the infestation of fruit flies. We packed food to eat in and couldn't cook a full meal because it was so gross. Nevermind not being able to enjoy a glass of wine in the evening. They found us downstairs, in the bedrooms and bathrooms. There are certainly worse things to contend with, but for the price of this property, the management was not very attentive to the concerns and we really would have appreciated a warning. After an evening of trying to get ahold of them we were left a bottle of fruit fly bait but with no instructions the following day. We made our own traps and found a shop vac to try and mitigate the hordes. At least we had some family bonding over it. I hope in the future that renters are warned and given the option to opt out since it appears to be an unstoppable issue.
Beautiful home, not so beautiful beach!
This home was perfect for us! Main floor master with bath for grandparents and basement bedrooms and bath for a young family with little ones. The location was great for us since we were attending a wedding at Black Star Farms. We loved the quaintness of Suttons Bay shopping and dining. Morning sunrises were spectacular! The house is on the main highway running through town, so it's dangerous and loud. Also, we expected the beach area and water to be sandy. Unfortunately, it was rocky and full of roots which made it difficult to navigate the water. Overall, we enjoyed our stay!
Great time, lovely house
We really enjoyed our stay in this beautiful house. We especially enjoyed the great view of the bay from the main rooms and we used the two kayaks nearly every day. My teens enjoyed being able to ride to town easily for ice cream. There was some noise from the road, but it didn't really bother us (the two downstairs bedrooms are quieter). We also appreciated the snacks and having some basic cooking supplies available. We would definitely stay here again!
