We are Michelle & Lauren. A Mother-Daughter hosting team. Mom left South Florida in 2007 with a calling to grow her own food. She cleared the land, put in the garden and used the timbers to build what is now my barn-shaped house. My family and I moved here in 2011 with the same calling. In February of 2014 mom completed what is now the main farmhouse on the property which includes this first floor apartment rental. In 2016 we were awarded a marketing grant by the NCDA for our farmstay.
Michelle Mejia purchased this farmhouse in 2005
This property was perfect for us because of the abundance of clean natural resources. We love to farm, forage, keep bees and love the freedom that the privacy that remoteness offers. The creek is wonderful for our son (and dad) to play in. It's also where we soak our shiitake logs and fish for crawdads. We get to encounter wildlife on a regular basis and observe and learn about the little things in nature that make up the whole big picture.
A tour of the farm is included with every stay. We sell some of our canned and dry goods grown on the farm in our farmstore, located in the apartment rental. Farm fresh eggs for sale in the fridge. Taste what pure water tastes like. Having never been exposed to contamination, our well is pristine. It was tested as having the highest purity in the country.
The property was peaceful and very secluded. We were there for the Bristol races, so there was no time to do the farm tour or walk around the property. If your plans are to just go for some nature time and not travel back and forth, this is sooooo the place. Owners were very friendly and provided great hospitality. Highly recommend this property.
Our family (2 adults/2 teenagers) thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The apartment was clean and comfortable, and Lauren, Michelle and family were gracious hosts. Their album collection is incredible...no matter your taste in music, you'll find albums to enjoy!
We were attending a very nearby (yet very remote) function so we actually did not spend a great deal of time on the property but I can easily say that Lauren and Michelle made effort effort to ensure our every need was met. The property and living quarters were immaculate and both Lauren and Michelle proved to be delightful people. I should add that renting here equals big bang for the buck. One giant bonus for me was Lauren's dog, Tobey. My pal.
We really enjoyed our getaway at Poplar creek farm. Especially the tour of the farm. My son loved the creek. Highly recommend if you are looking for a peaceful getaway.
Lovely mountain apartment with all the comforts of home. I enjoyed the sounds of the creek just outside my bedroom window. I was thrilled to see fireflies lighting up the woods at night while we roasted marshmallows in the fire pit. Nature and relaxation at it's best! The gracious and welcoming hosts gave us a tour of their organic farm and we enjoyed delicious, fresh free range eggs every morning. Highly recommended!!
Michelle and her family were very welcoming. We had a wonderful time touring the farm and exploring the surrounding forests. Fresh duck eggs and mushroom foraging were favorites. Looking forward to our next visit.
