Outstanding!

  • 5 of 5

We'd been to Big Canoe (BC) previously and are familiar with the area. We were surprised to find this wonderful gem of a place on HomeAway. We found the owners to be very responsive - even though we are last minute planners and they were out of the country. (Thank you again Fran.)

The setting and views are exceptional. The cottage is nestled in the woods just a short walk from the parking, and there's an incredible deck overlooking the lake with plenty of outdoor seating. Inside are nice and cozy furnishings and everything we needed in the kitchen for a long weekend. The beds were comfortable and the entire place was clean. The baths aren't ginormous but are consistent with a cottage of this size.

We did not have time to take advantage of BC recreation on this trip, but fishing and golf are high on our list when we return. Although, we did take advantage of the Black Bear Pub and found so many of the residents to be fun-loving and welcoming. You can walk to/from the Pub in about 10 minutes.

I highly recommend this listing for great value, responsive ownership, a superb property and convenience to amenities. If you're outdoorsy, it's great. If you need some R&R, it's great for that too. We've already shared it with other friends that were in BC with us and others who couldn't make the wedding. We really enjoyed it and will be back, hopefully soon!

Comfortable place in a fabulous mountain community

  • 5 of 5

551 Lake Watch was comfortable, clean and the morning coffee view was great. The beds are comfortable - with seven of us all having good nights' sleep after a day of hiking and exploring Big Canoe. The community itself is beautiful. We did not play golf or tennis on this visit, but if you are a golfer - the course is beautiful as well. Highly recommend both Big Canoe and 551 Lake Watch. The owners are highly responsive and helpful to us - even those of us that are new to using the VRBO platform. We will stay here again.

Thanksgiving with the Family

  • 5 of 5

We met our children from Texas and Kentucky for Thanksgiving and truly enjoyed our time at Big Canoe! The home was in the perfect setting and although we did not spend a lot of time on the porches and decks we still enjoyed the view! The beds were comfy with plenty of sitting room for everyone in the living area, and there was plenty of hot water. The kitchen had all the essentials to cook a THanksgiving dinner. We went hiking and fishing and rented a pontoon boat. We ate at the clubhouse on the last night which was very convenient and the food was good.

Peaceful and Relaxing

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our visit at Big Canoe. The home is located on a circle with other villas. The view is great of the lake and the mountains. We were very comfortable at the home as the furnishings were very accommodating. We enjoyed our walks everyday. And my son loved the rock slide which was a very short drive from the house. There are alot of amenities in the community that we never had a chance to partake in.

There were only a few downsides to the property..cell service was scarce w our mobile devices which are through Verizon and Sprint and there is no wifi at the house, but it was nice to actually unplug from all of that and enjoy the beautiful natural setting. And I wish there were blinds or curtains on the windows in the dining area, as the other units around us could see inside and from the parking lot.

There were so many pluses to the home...the drive to exit out of the gate was very short in comparison to other homes in the community, the view is great, the bottom deck has a wonderful swing and is covered which is perfect when it's so sunny out, the upper deck was perfect for grilling and eating out on, the dining room was the perfect size, the kitchen was very well equipped, there are not alot of steps to get into the home compared to some of the other units, and the grounds are beautiful.

We hope this was the first of many visits to Big Canoe and highly reccommend this home!
