Access to the apartment not shown. The road was a dirt track with no pavement. The first step in to the apartment was by stepping on to a builders block. We had no running water for approx 30 hours. No electricity for approx 6 hours. On the 2nd night of our stay we were awoken at 10.30pm by person (s) trying to force entry through the bedroom shutters. This incident left me traumatised and felt that due to the lack of basic facilities and adequate safety and security features not fit for purpose. We felt that we had no option but to vacate the property and find alternative accommodation for the rest of our stay. A more detailed letter with pictures will be sent to the London address.

I would like to note that this apartment is in Cape Verde, a part of Africa that is only now moving out of poverty. In the aerial photograph provided it is clearly shown that there are no roads or paths around the house, however the government is working hard to fix that. There is a step leading to the house, albeit it is a concrete step, it is still a step. Although the government is trying very hard this country is subjected to frequent power cuts, no matter what apartment you choose, even if it is a penthouse.
Most apartments here are not connected to mains water, therefore when the power goes out the water pump does not work, which is why we have several 5ltr bottles in the apartment. In the building there was a full tank of water and had you waited for the electric to come back on you would have had water.
I am more than sure you heard something at night, but I am sure it was not someone trying to break in as there is no sign of attempted entry into the apartment or anything on our CCTV cameras. The security of the apartment is completely adequate, and for someone to gain access through the bedroom window, they would have to break through the external steel security shutters first, then cut through a solid steel security grill to be able to then break through the double glazed internal windows. This would be extremely difficult to say the least.
That apartment is our home away from home and we treat it as a home. I am sure you arrived with expectations, based on your experiences with apartments in developed countries. When it did not meet your expectation, everything about our apartment was interpreted as negative. I understand that you live in a world where water, asphalt roads and electricity are taken for granted, but here it is a luxury. I am sorry that you choose to not focus on the positive, the view is spectacular, it is close to town and it is right in front of the ocean, so that you can enjoy the connection to the environment.
So I think what you may have meant in your review was, that the apartment did not fit your personal needs or your set expectations and you personally did not enjoy the place, but that does not make it a terrible place, it just makes it a place not for you.

Wir haben unseren Urlaub hier genossen. Der Ausblick vom Balkon ist wunderschön, die Gegend ist sicher und das Apartment absolut sauber und gut ausgestattet. Vor dem Haus verläuft ein Strandwanderweg, auf dem immer etwas los ist. Zum Strand und Beach Club sind es nur 100 m, im Zentrum ist man in 10 Minuten zu Fuß. Die Organisation mit Matt lief problemlos. Alles in Allem, ist die Unterkunft für uns absolut empfehlenswert.
Fantastic apartment in a fantastic location !
Just had a fantastic week at this apartment. The location was great and everything you needed was within walking distance. The views were amazing. The apartment was lovely and clean and had everything you needed. The transfers organised for us from and to airport were great and very organised. We will be returning.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The property is very clean and spacious and has a fantastic view of the ocean. It is perfect for reading and catching the sun. I would definitely recommend it to anyone interested in visiting Sal. The location is a short walk from the centre so nice and quiet but close enough to shops and beach.
The appartment was excellent, clean and enough space. The location is very nice too, a lovely view from the balcony.

The weekly rental rate includes up to 1 cubic meter of water per week. The water in Cape Verde is all desalinated and has to be delivered to the buildings communal water tank by lorry. The cost of this water is approximately 11 times more than prices in England, and in addition to this owners also have to pay for the pumping of the water to the apartment and also the cost of managing the communal
