A great spot for our family getaway!
Our daughter was working at a nearby camp, and we were looking for a lakeside property where she could come to spend her day off and we could spend some time as a family. We are so happy that we found this spot and connected with Steve!
Although the house itself isn't directly on the water, the property on which is located is; just a short walk down a path leads you right to a beautiful lakeside gazebo and a dock where Steve keeps his boats. My son and daughter enjoyed taking the available row boat out to do a little exploring in the waters between the dock and nearby island, known for some of the best fishing on the lake! Although we aren't savvy fisherpeople, both other renters' reviews (with pics as evidence) and first-hand accounts from Steve tell of some HUGE FISH caught there !
Our day on the lake was spent swimming and doing other watersports. Because it was a Thursday and Friday that we were there, we had the open water pretty much to ourselves. We ventured out a ways off shore with a boat, some floats, and our dog. What a blast!
The house was perfect for what we needed for our stay, both in terms of size and amenities. Each bedroom was plenty roomy, with both a comfortable queen and twin-size bed. The bathroom was nice - complete with a shower with complimentary and great-smelling soap, shampoos, and conditioner! All linens were provided, which made packing much easier. The kitchen was well-equipped: pots and pans, plates, silverware, a microwave, gas stove, good-sized fridge, and coffee maker as well as Keurig (with a few complimentary k-cups of coffee - a nice touch!). And boy, were we grateful for the A/C that kept the main part of the house cool despite the humid 97 degrees that hung in the air outside!
The front porch area was a nice spot for outside eating and visiting, with chairs and a table that had an umbrella for shade. We used the charcoal grill that was also there for a cookout, and although we didn't get a chance to make use of it, could have topped off our cookout with smores and an evening at the firepit down by the lake.
Steve made this great property even better, going above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. The basics were well-provided for, and there were many extra touches - like bringing us a homemade blueberry pie from a nearby farmers' market, helping us get together some poles for fishing, and providing smore ingredients. Two thumbs up!
Perfect weekend getaway
My husband, our 2 sons (5 & 2) and I had a wonderful weekend on the lake. This cabin was perfect for all our needs! Steven was kind, prompt and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed rowing out to the dock and spending several hours swimming and fishing. I would most certainly recommend a stay here and I hope we can return again next summer!
we had a wonderful time
Steve is a very friendly and nice person. Everything was great. Thank you so much.
Great stay at Mohican Lake
My son and I can't say enough positive things about Steven and the cottage. I communicated many questions to Steven prior to our visit and always received a prompt informative reply. By far what we appreciated the most was his honestly concerning a last minute issue with the boat battery since it would've spoiled some of our trip (brought my own). Not too sure other's in Steven's position would've taken the time to do the same. Fished two other area lakes as well (artificial lures only/catch and release) and while you have to work for quality fish (as usual) we were more than pleased with the results. Between the numerous amenities at the cottage and the surprising variety of inventory at Peck's Market I'll pack a lot less items next time. Steven advised us to try II Castello where we enjoyed good pizza and also liked the ice cream and sandwiches at The Corner Ice Cream Shop. Highly recommend using GPS if unfamiliar with area.
Great little cottage, lots of nature and animals around. The Gazebo was awesome, especially at sunset. Owner communicated throughout the whole experience. Owner had canoes, rowboats and a great dock!!! Can’t wait to go back!! Caught my personal best 5LB largemouth Bass to top off a wonderful weekend!!
Steven was great in communicating and extremely prompt/friendly. I have to be honest though about the cleanliness of the place. It was not consistent with the other reviews so I was disappointed as that’s why I decided to book this property. The shower did not appear to be freshly cleaned. There were bugs on the pillow in the spare bedroom. We could feel dirt and dust on our feet when walking barefoot inside. The blinds in the living room were broke or jammed so we didn’t feel comfortable sitting in the living room (we live in the city and like privacy) at night so we resorted to watching TV on our iPad in the bedroom. Thankfully the WiFi was good! Great location and cute property, just underwhelmed on the experience based on the reviews.
Devon, thank you for sharing your experience at my property. Im happy that you agreed with previous guests that you stayed at a great location! Im also grateful, that you commented on the cleanliness,of the home,or in your case lack of. The check-in time for the property is 4;00 pm. I arrived at the property at 3:15 to make sure everything was in order, only to find that you had already arrived, and since door was closed and shades down,i didnt want to disturb. Had i had access,i would have definitely seen the couple of ants that had infiltrated the home.and given them their proper burial into a bounty napkin and down the toilet. After all, this is the country, and unlike the City,we do get occasional criters. Im also sorry that you werent able to enjoy the 40 inch Smart TV, because you werent able to lower the shade. Firstly, when you booked the house, you booked it knowing that there was no internet or TV. However, because of the overwhelming success rate of bookings,(75% booked before official start of summer) i installed it afterwards. The window faces all pine trees and no other people. At night, it is total darkness. People do not trespass on other peoples property to look into a window that is over 6 feet from the ground.im happy though that you did have bonus WIFI and were able still watch on your phones. All in all, i do hope you had a fantastic time at your friends wedding, and hope you enjoy the upcoming summer months.
