~The home is a green built stucco home in an area surrounded by Roosevelt National Forest. There's one other home across the valley but you have to look hard to find it. So up here on this mountain top you'll see nothing but nature and stars.
~The master suite and all the bedrooms are spacious and open onto their own deck. You'll likely see wildlife during your stay, especially deer but also wild turkey, fox, elk, hummingbirds and more. Even saw a marmot once. And if you listen carefully at night you might hear an owl, a baby coyote or the wings of bats.
~The mountain views from the home are spectacular, and the night sky incredible since there's no other light competing. And of course the mountain moon! Hiking is steps outside the door or on nearby trails. Bring your hiking shoes/boots/daypack, snow shoes/cross-country skis, mountain bike, fishing pole or fly rod and a horse if you have one (horse must find other accommodations;). The nearby Saint Vrain Trailhead is one of the best kept secrets in this part of Colorado, so expect to find peace and solitude in addition to beauty. Other trails are accessible in town and many more within a few miles.
~The home is an easy drive to Boulder, but if you want to stay local there's The Mercantile Restaurant (affectionately called "The Merc" by locals). Bed and... breakfast at The Merc'! It's a one-of-a-kind mountain restaurant serving wonderful breakfast, lunch, dinner, local draft beer & wine. In continuous operation since 1902! Rainbow, the owner, is famous locally and beyond for her fabulous cooking. Only a 3 to 5 minute drive from the house, there's live music every Thursday & Saturday night, and acoustic music/tapas on Friday afternoon.
~ Eldora Ski Resort is 27 miles from the house over the beautiful Peak-to-Peak highway in the destination mountain town of Nederland, with it's many shops and restaurants.
~ Estes Park, gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park, is 32 miles away over the Peak-to-Peak Highway. Trail Ridge Road, the highest continuous paved road in the United States, takes visitors through the park and across the Continental Divide.
~ Brainard Lake is 15 miles up the mountain on the Peak-to-Peak Highway in the Indian Peaks Wilderness with many choices of trails varying in difficulty.
~ Jamestown is home to many artists & musicians, so there are special events throughout the year, such as JAVA JAM (JAVA + JAM=coffee/art + Jamestown Artists & Musicians) and the JAM for the Arts. 4th of July in Jamestown is an entire day of activities, beginning with a pancake breakfast and ending with fireworks. It's a community of wonderful people recovering beautifully from the catastrophic flood of 2013.
~ Jamestown is also a charming destination for tourists, cyclists, bikers (mountain & motor) who come to enjoy the ambiance. All are welcome! The drive up James Canyon is wondrous throughout the seasons of the year. Enjoy the drive, then stop in at The Merc for hydration & sustenance, linger in the town park by the creek, or visit Elysian park on Lower Main where there's a tennis court, a pavilion, a playground and walking trails. Jamestown is a unique destination in itself and on the way to many others, and The Mountain Moon Guesthouse & Retreat is a wonderful resting place in the midst of it all.
