Remodeled farmhouse, 4 bedrooms (w/two master suites), 3-1/2 baths on 57 acres
About Jean Adair
We grew up about 20 miles away in Chippewa Falls. Jean left the area to join the Army and sister Joan attended college in Menomonie and eventually settled there with her husband and 3 children. Jean continued to come back to the area to visit family and eventually our families purchased the farm property together. Jean visits often and Joan & husband John live on an adjacent property and manage the rental.
Jean Adair purchased this Farmhouse in 2014
Why Jean Adair chose Menomonie
We fell in love with the property the first time we drove by. It is located at the bottom of a hill, surrounded by trees. The river borders the west side of the property and is accessed by a meandering trail. We love to walk to the river and often have fires on the high bank overlooking the river and watch the eagles fly by. We totally renovated the farmhouse over a period of two years and found it to be a wonderful place to gather together with our families and friends. The porches are our favorite place to spend time.
What makes this Farmhouse unique
The farmhouse is quaint and cozy. The windows offer wonderful views of the large yard and surrounding trees. Walk the groomed trail to the high bank offering expansive views of the Red Cedar River. The property is a short ride to the Red Cedar Trail for biking or walking.

Quaint country charm meets Modern Living
From the moment we arrived we were mesmerized...the attention to detail, the cleanliness, the modern amenities, the inviting hiking trails, and so much more. John stopped in to make sure we were settled and offered to start a fire for us which was so sweet! The exterior amenities including screened in porch, open front porch and fire pit give guests many options to enjoy the beautiful ambience on the farm!
This property is truly magical!
Remarkable country house
This is a remarkable country house that the owners have completely renovated and updated. It is at the end of a quiet county road. Everything in the house is perfect from the bedrooms to the kitchen and the bathrooms. We really liked the fireplace in the screened-in porch. Deer walked nearby the porch and stopped as if we weren't there. The owners stopped by upon check in to brief us or answer any questions.
This is a remarkably serene retreat to enjoy!
I’m going back!!
Red Dog Trails was a wonderful place for my family to stay. it was very comfortable & homey. Everything was provided down to the smallest of things. They were very welcoming....flowers on the deck, a note of welcome, salty caramels, etc. The outdoor space is beautiful & we hope to get back & enjoy all that Red Dog Trails has to offer. This stay was for my daughter’s wedding so we were too busy to enjoy just being there!! Loved our stay!!
Amazing Farm Renovation--bigger than it looks!
My husband and I rented Red Dog Trails for the entire month of August. We had our Boykin Spaniel with us and used the home as our base --- training our retriever and taking her to Aid hunt tests. The home is extremely well done, capturing that old farm house feeling but in an updated fashion. They created an open feeling with a lovely, well-appointed kitchen, opening into a large dining and living area. Our family joined us the last weekend and we filled the four bedrooms and sleeping alcove! The home is deceivingly large! Everyone had privacy and space. There are two gorgeous porches --- lots of front porch time for lunches and late afternoon wine! The side porch is screened and has a great wood-burning fireplace which we enjoyed on cool evenings. Mowed trails through the expansive acreage take you to the Red Cedar River bluffs for beautiful sunset views and a large river fire pit with nice seating. Behind the barn and closer to the house, you will find a second fire pit and eight Adirondack chairs. We built a fire and made s'mores with the grandkids!
The hosts and neighbors stopped by and joined us on the front porch for wine and cheese! They gave us recommendations for places to visit and dine! Red Dog Trails was perfect for us. We explored Wisconsin and Minnesota from a great location and a beautiful property! And, we made some new friends! We would highly recommend this property and the owner/hosts!
Beautiful! Magical! These people ROCK hospitality!
We arrived to this serene, rural property to the sound of cicadas in the trees and robins singing their hearts out...and nothing else! The porch had fresh cut hydrangeas in a vase for us and toy tractors at toddler level to welcome our littlest one. The space is imaculately clean and well-kept. There were fresh sets of towels laid out on each bed, nightlights and oscillating fans in the bedrooms for our kids, a handwritten welcome note on the counter, and firewood prepared in the screen porch hearth so that we literally just had to pour some wine and light 1 match after the kids went to bed. Plus throw blankets within arm's reach for when the night cooled off. The reading nook was a favorite spot of my 6 year old's...she checked out all the kids books there and games. The hosts stopped by to see if we needed anything and to give us some information about family-friendly activities happening in town the next day. They have truly thought of everything! Lots of little surprises around the house that made staying there an absolute delight! The hiking trails were lovely, and we saw lots of wildlife...deer, birds, a marten, snake, lots of pretty moths, bunnies. And the views of the river are beautiful! This was a perfect base for a low-key week with kids--we did the Wakanda Water Park in town, visited the beach at the Bottoms on the Red Cedar River, ate at the Waterfront, got ice cream at the Acoustic Cafe, listened to a blues band outside the library one night while the kids chased giant bubbles (like, 3-5 feet!) that a man was blowing over the lawn, visited the Dunn County Fair and the Cady Cheese Factory, and played lawn games together. It was bliss! My only recommendation is that if you have a mobile baby, bringing an exersaucer or some way to keep him contained would be a good idea as there are lots of stairs and porches to fall off of. We loved this place and hope to return!
We are so glad you and your family enjoyed the property -- we would love to host you again.
After a very stressful spring and early summer of work and shuttling kids two and from baseball teams, we were desperate to find a quiet escape on short notice over the 4th of July holiday. Joan was awesome in making us feel right at home, our teenage daughter was overjoyed to have the dog bedroom to herself and our young son was instantly smitten with the reader’s nook even though he had his choice of the two upstairs bedrooms. And we loved the details for dog owners. Waffles the city dog eventually became a more relaxed country dog. We’d love to come back in the fall when it’s cooler so we can enjoy the porches and fireplace and fire pit. Thank you.
Thanks for being great guests. We're glad you enjoyed your stay. We would love to host your family & Waffles again!
